Ok this correction is mostly for my own sake because this popped into my head right after uploading the video: Astalos and Seregios, these are both flying wyverns that frequently place their wings on the ground. They're a far better analogue to the new lightning wyvern than the pseudos as the new fellow doesn't really have actual wing arms!
I think the new monster may be "piggybacking" from another monster in terms of how it is harnesses its lightning power- I think it planting its wings into the ground is deiberatly shown as it is likely the way it "charges up" from said other monster's power and the actual creator of the lightning storms is probably burried underground. The flying monster shown may act as a sort of 'battery leach'
if you look at the 2 trailers its very clear that the first trailer after introducing the characters zooms in on the face of natta. then there is a cut. the second trailer starts exactly with the zoom on the face of natta and continues from there on. With how they show the storyline so far makes me think that this sandworm might be our great jagras fight and we may not be choosing a weapon but getting the starting one for it.

The character being attacked by the balahara sounded like stan from American dad for a second lol
