I've lost count the amount of times I've walked past the entrance to the station on my way to and from the ibis hotel off the a45 near the ring road, and the city centre.
Thanks for the bonus vid. Hot here in the DC area as well, with 95% humidity, yuck. Hopefully a cooler week for you. Keep rolling, and be thankful you don't have to do an Amtrak version of All The Stations.
originally in old aerial photography it had 3 island platforms of which only 2 remain and one stub loner platform for services changing lines. one of the three no longer used viaducts remains mostly intact albeit with all of the bridges of the roads removed. The underplatform walkway to the remaining disused platform exists but is sealed. The site outline of the station house is visible still in Google Earth Pro.
Looking forward to your visit to Gloucester and the debate on if its Gloucester or Colchester has the longest platform. Interesting side note Gloucester used to be me my local station but now my local station is Colchester
Inspired by these videos we bought a two together railcard, which has paid for itself in a single trip booked to Newcastle. Now planning Walton on the Naze. Shame you don't get commission 😀
We are on are third two together card we love it and the money saved on discount means we get to treat ourselves to a first class ticket every so often
This is crazy! I have caught the express bus from the Airport several times and they always announce ‘Bordsley Station’ next stop when you approach, I would be pretty cheesed off if I got off the bus to catch the train and couldn’t get in and therefore on a train! Perhaps WMT need to announce ‘Bordsley Ghost Station’. The stupid thing is it’s at the top of Digbeth High Street near the Custard Factory and Irish Centre and the Mayor is talking about extending the Tram system down There at a cost of millions. Use what you have Mr Mayor and the area of vibrancy could extend this far
I remember Bordesley in the 1980s- It was quite busy at rush hour. Since then all the local factories closed or we relocated. There is very little housing in the area. Go there when Birmingham are playing - you get packed platforms - that's only about 25 times a year though!
I genuinely used Bordesley a few years ago to get to Birmingham Wheels. The matchday trains were stopping and I thought 'Why not? It'll save time going into town and back out to Adderley Park' (it didn't)!
On the day I went to Bordesley station, the one train was cancelled. I had to go to Moor Street, get a bus and pray it was still unlocked. Which happily it was (and BCFC were away).
The problem with Bordesley Station is St Andrews is close to the City Centre it's quicker to walk to Moor Street then wait here for Train. There is however a lot of redevelopment plans for the immediate area including a lot to of apartments.
I live just outside Birmingham and have travelled on that line many times, I didn't know there was only one stop per week, it's a shame, but interesting. But what is there in Bordesley anyway, not much, 15 mins walk and you'll be at Moor Street in the centre of Birmingham.
really wish I saw you guys yesterday, was a shame not to! seeing my bus service on the timetable in the shelter you were in was quite weird though for some reason
wow if that was Moor Street station at the end it has changed a bit from the 80's - used to be very forlorn and a terminus for Stratford trains with rattling old DMUs
The original Moor Street station (the terminus) has been thoroughly revamped by Chiltern - they've even redecorated the 1980s cross-city platforms (adjacent to the tunnel) in the same style. It's such a contrast to Birmingham city centre's two other extant stations - Snow Hill and New Street - both rebuilt in the 1960s and buried under tons of concrete.
There is planned reconstruction to demolish the car park which is above snow hill and give it a open roof like Curzon Street in the future. A modern style roof design.
Why do they need to run a weekly parliament service if there's the matchday service for BCFC? How is it different to Man Utd Halt which only runs on matchdays?
Bordesley wasn't built to serve St Andrews, it just happens to be the nearest station. The matchday service exists but it's not a scheduled service as football fixtures are somewhat fluid and can't be published in a fixed timetable so all the football trains are "additional" services. The station still needs a scheduled service. It's a line I know particularly well and I think it's a prime example of station usage figures being inaccurate too. I'd think the station usage figures here (12-13k a year) are massively underreported as you just need to see the place on a matchday to know it's more than a few hundred people per game using the station. Thing is it's difficult to police against ticketless travel at a station like Bordesley so loads of people using it will not have tickets or if they do have a ticket it might be one to "Birmingham Stations" rather than Bordesley itself. Also as the station is barely a 15 minute walk from Moor Street and 20 from New street with no nearby residential population (it's industrial one side and a bucketload of pubs and shops on the other) there is little demand for a more frequent service as people passing through tend to use the big stations in the city centre.
Interestingly, in days gone by, it was far busier - originally opened as two platform two track, it was upgraded to four tracks and two island platforms in 1915, with extensive sidings adjacent to it (on the viaduct!) to handle cattle arriving for the Bull Ring markets. In the 1960s it was downgraded again.
mittfh the remnants are still there at street level. The old GWR paintwork is there for all to be seen a street or two over from the 'main' entrance from the station.
Anyone know where to get the maps that they're using for reference? I've seen it on their phones in a couple of videos. Can't seem to find them on Network Rail's or any other relevant website. Thanks
I tried desperately to have pity for you in 90°f, but I'm watching your brilliant series from Phoenix Arizona, where we are heading toward 120°f. Kidnap me, please!
freshpickings so Birmingham has become star of the show. Let me tell you, from the past year crime rate has risen by 11% and the threat of an attack on Birmingham. The transport there gets mad and the airport traffic system is ridiculous. I'd rather live in Manchester and we all know that's not the best either. Also, Birmingham is undergoing a lot of roadworks lately. The motorway is becoming more and more busier. I like Birmingham for its business. Oh and Birmingham gets quite dirty up in the northern area - some at the centre.
Don't know whether the makers of this video are aware that this station will be obliterated in the next ten years. Two chords are due to be constructed to enable trains on the Camp Hill line to access Moor Street, and they will converge on top of Bordesley station, which will either disappear altogether or be relocated. This is one of a package of schemes linked to the arrival of HS2, due in 2026. The good news is that this scheme will deliver new stations on long-closed sites at Hazelwell, Kings Heath, Moseley, Fort Parkway and Castle Bromwich.
I wonder what that guy was doing walking on the platform when the train was pulling out. He wasn't the maintenance guy. Is he going to wait a week for the next train to come in?
Hi Geoff and Vicki Love your videos, You motivated to check out a look London Bridge yesterday. I have a question, which you may have been asked many times before, Which station has the most trains pass through without stopping? Thanks for your postings regards Roland (74)
Geoff and Vicki this video is only delayed by a day from when you shot it, but sometimes it can be several days after one was shot before we see it. I'm just wondering though, is the map on the website always current or does it reflect the stations traveled that have been released on video?
Geoff edited this one on the way home from Birmingham, a simple 5/6 minute video. the regular videos (10+ minutes) by Will and Dan take much longer to do! the map is updated every morning at 10am with the previous days stations except it wasn't done for yesterday! so it will now be correct as of Monday 19th instead
I know you're doing stations rather than lines, but will you be going for the Saturday morning parliamentary service from Wolverhampton to Walsall direct?
By the way, the description says the date is Saturday 17th 2017... Do months cease to exist because of the lack of a concept of time from all this travelling? :)
Temp isn't all of the story, it's the humidity too. I can take hotter temps in a another country because the humidity is lower, Thailand i hated, not for the country but the humidity. Dubai, hit 50c and i'd rather be in that heat than the UK...oh and i would probably have a pool to jump in :D It's just oppressive here when it gets hot.
+DanTheFryingPan Whatever. It's winter in Australia right now, and from what I know - it's not going to be more then 10-15C. Which wouldn't be a problem, but most of your housing has no insulation. So it is 10-15C inside too. That, or really huge energy bill.

great video. I can't wait until u come to Cotswold line (hanborough, combe etc)
The problem with Bordesley Station is St Andrews is close to the City Centre it's quicker to walk to Moor Street then wait here for Train. There is however a lot of redevelopment plans for the immediate area including a lot to of apartments.
And of course this pops up today in my recommendations.

Good Movie + It's like the lost souls of Railway Stations- glad you made the effort *
Best video of the series so far. :P
Im thinking of the please wait joke from last time
with the least used least used station point what about shippea hill
In America, it went up to 39C where I live.

Another bonus video watched, another "Tick"
I think you mean Tyseley when you're talking about delay, which is pronounced Ties-Lee. But I think the videos are great, keep it up 👍🏻
I used to think that it was a disused station as it was always closed when I went past it on the bus until my mum told me that it's used on match days
Vicki - the subscribe button is always on your right, as you face the camera.
0:25 - it's a *what* Geoff?

@@LesD9 the football specials aren't scheduled, they are what is known as 'short term planning' .
Fairly soon that station will change its name too Digbeth and will become a busy station, so much is changing around that area now
Love this video. Just subscribed.

Where was Martin Clitheroe? - I'd have loved some ariel footage of the local scrap metal yards, discount furniture stores and crack dens.
The number of RUclips films on Bordesley Station suggest it's not going to be least used for much longer.
Yes, I know Bordesley, but the station has become a cult rail destination.
Still has better facilities than the Brigg Line Saturday Only stations with its 3 trains since 1993.
Wich Video
Excellent video! Im going for a swim in the sea its so hot.
I live here in Birmingham, I know these stations!!!
what time is that train
Another GREAT upload. Zero on the quaint scale though!
What's happened to last Saturday when I know you did the Barton branch and the Brigg line who is the video from that going to be up
At 3:26 shouldn't it be the MOST least used station? After all, it's more not used than all the others. 😁
I tried desperately to have pity for you in 90°f, but I'm watching your brilliant series from Phoenix Arizona, where we are heading toward 120°f. Kidnap me, please!
And the train dispatch guy from New Street caught the train.
Is there no trains going in the other direction
Matchdays only there is
Seeing as they open it for match days, it must be the most used least used station in the UK
Also Tysley is said as Ty-sley not Tisley.
And Birmingham isn't a town!!!
RBXTrains I know and I didnt put that
RBXTrains you're right, it's not a town it's a shithole
GwanBwoai? ❤️Birmingham. Please do keep bad mouthing Birmingham, it means that people won't realise how good it is and ruin it.

Hi Geoff and Vicki Love your videos, You motivated to check out a look London Bridge yesterday. I have a question, which you may have been asked many times before, Which station has the most trains pass through without stopping? Thanks for your postings regards Roland (74)
Roland Livings probably shippea hill
What was with the Class 91 in Birmingham? I thought they ran on the East Coast?
ChaplinONLINE that wasn't a class 91. It was a class 82. Chiltern railways own some with use on class 68 mk2 services.
Sulzer factory in the background?
When will the Hounslow or Twickenham video be. Because I saw on the map that you have done the stations.
They did it just didn't make the video. Same with my station too.
Dang it
ahhh looking forward to your coming to wakefield/leeds
Well the station may not have had much - but at least it had a seagull (3:28) !
Can't wait till they do the Isle of Wight
SimonHellinger they already have, look for their first bonus video
SimonHellinger they already have it was quite early on.
Geoff Marshall I thought you had a bonus video where you went from ryde
Nah. That was a CGI effort recorded on London Underground just to fool everyone. Geoff and Vicki haven't been to the Isle of Wight yet.
Sassy Treacle no, that's not us. We definitely haven't been yet
What did the guy who opened the station say when they asked him?
What is the smartcard used in Birmingham
WSouthAirport The swift card
@@JamesTilsley1 Ahh ok
A few trains stop there on weekday evenings
Wikipedia says annual footfall of 13,300 people / year. I wonder how many of those were non-football fans?
When are you planning on making your journey to Thurso?

Watching this with coffee.
good call

no, because we're doing stations rather than lines
I went in December to see the Polar Expresses go through, the shelter still stunk of pi$$.
By the way, the description says the date is Saturday 17th 2017... Do months cease to exist because of the lack of a concept of time from all this travelling? :)
Are there any more Saturday or Sunday only stations to do?
I think Denton (Greater Manchester) as even this than this station?
👍👍👍
Sampford Courtnay has literally nothing, not even a waiting room
Least Least used station.... 13.350 passangers a year. That isn't that bad for one train a week and a few match day trains on occation?
"on occasion" - they run football specials at least 23 days per year so it's not actually that rare
Bluenose! ;-)
nigel h x me too 👍🏻
Me too
You were so small Trainz ( I don’t want to use your name )
Can't wait till they come to fareham
Samory's Channel They did. They just didn't make a video, but the footage is probably still there.
Setting for Peaky Blinders apparently
That's small heath. The next stop on that line.
You chose the only day in Britain when it didn't rain.
You can tell you are not from Birmingham - Tyseley is pronounced like Tie-sley not Tis-sley!
I may have chuckled being the australian when you said 90F (32C) was hot.
