about:
my name is Jordan Mantzke and I am a goldsmith. I'm starting a vlog to help enrich my life and maybe a few of yours. One of the most common questions I get is what do I do with all of the gold scraps and shavings. In this video I finally answer that question. - Хобби
I like the old European cut. It looks like it has bigger sparkles.
The brilliant cut is fast, flashy and dazzling but the old European cut is slowly seductively winking at the viewer. Looking amazing under the gentle glow of candlelight, the old European cut is kind of....sexy?
Best way to describe it that I’ve ever seen lol
I have one and she is🥰
The European cut has depth when viewed, and lovely large flashes of light. The brilliant cut shows lots of tiny little scintillating pinpoints of light. I find it less attractive, and in a way cheaper looking.
agree.
The current sexualization of any aspect of life is appaling.
I literally just got engaged and my ring is an old European cut 😍 it has been in his family for almost 100 years and I’ve been trying to learn more about it ❤️ it is a beautiful ring with incredible history I love this! (Also a super coincidence that you posted this right after I got engaged and I’m researching the ring because I watch you all the time)
Congratulations!!
@@tmhuizar Thank you!!
Mine is an old family European cut, too! There’s just something so special about the sparkle it gives. Congrats on the engagement!
Congratulations! Cheers to you and your future husband 😊😉
Old European cuts are longer (more egg shaped)instead of wider like the brilliant, the best thing to know is that the vintage ones are hand cut not like the laser cut ones today everyone identical, your stone is individual because it was hand cut the only one like it in the world, just as mine is the only one. Keep her clean and you will get compliments for years to come. I got mine for my 30th Anniversary, now on my 35th. I wish you many more years than that, congratulations!
European cut all the way. Also, those candles were making me super nervous. Glad you're safe.
The ring is very beautiful, delicate and joyous
Starting a 2 year jewelry course in September... I am excited and stressed to start this in my 30s but I have been hooked since I saw your video on Ariana grande's ring.
Way to go! You’ll rock it.
It's never too late!! I just turned 28 and it's been my dream to make jewelry...never done anything as far as real jewelry...done some beadwork and simple stuff like that...but my dream is to have a workshop to make real stuff....it takes money to make money...being a single mom I'm still trying to make money to start...but I know it will happen. Good luck!!! ❤️❤️✌️🤞🤞 Edit: my grandfather fixes watches, clocks, and jewelry for a living, built his own store with his dad and after his dad passed has been running it solo on his own. I grew up watching him and helping him with small things...but it's something I have always wanted to do (as far as the jewelry goes) and I know I will get there eventually. I believe you can do it girl ..like I said ..it's never too late!!!
Good on you - I am jealous!
@@andrewr5203 don't be, if this is what you want to do try joining a workshop first.
You'll be fine, it's never too late.....
I like both cuts, for me it's about how they're displayed in a setting. I love your design, it's very delicate and feminine!
PS please include longer clips of your ring close ups! It felt like it cut away at the end of the video, extra 10 or 20 seconds would be nice.
Thank you! If you go to the product page in the description I did make a longer video of the full ring
That was so shockingly brilliant under the candlelight. Gasped out loud!
Wow! No views, uploaded 3 mins ago and recommended.
The algorithm works in beautiful ways😂
Loved this video!!
The ring is stunning! I'm glad you are just creating rings you want to make. Especially since I'm sure some people would love to have a ring made by you but are too indecisive to make decisions on a commissioned piece. Can't wait to see what you make next!😍
Wow what an amazing ring! I would love to see the process of how you made it.
More full-process videos coming soon! They just take me like 24 hours to film and edit so I have to find the time.
@@moderngoldsmith oh that makes sense. Thanks for the response! Love your channel!
@@moderngoldsmith You should consider hiring/commissioning an editor! That’s what a lot of RUclipsrs do. Allows them to put out more content too
@@moderngoldsmith cant wait to see it!
I adore the older vintage style cuts, the chunky facets of the OEC really speak to me. I’ve been lusting after one for more than a decade now…one day!
The ring is stunning, thanks for sharing!
I swear when I get the money one day, I want you to fix the old ring my mom gave me, a former friend of mine crushed it and I'm lucky the gem is unharmed, but all the gold is bent, your videos are amazing and you've inspired me to learn more about goldsmithing!
They both look stunning. I love the Old European Cut. 💍💎😍
Oh my gosh, at the first look at your ring, my jaw literally dropped. It is GORGEOUS! It's delicacy is delicious :D
I’m an antique jewelry buff so you know what my favorite is of those cuts ;)
The amount and quality of work that went into making detailed ornate jewels in a time when the modern techniques often used today weren’t available is priceless and so underrated. I’m giessing people like yourself are amongst those who can truly appreciate it.
Beautiful ring you created, I’m sure it will sell in no time at all and make someone very happy!
Love your channel!
The ring is absolutely gorgeous! Love it!
Also I love the way you casually talk about mental health and how you started a journal. I might try that out, might help me too ✨
You should be outselling Zales every day. Beautiful work.
This is so beautiful! Could you do a video on the old mine cut? I’ve been super interested in the older cuts lately 😊
This ring is SO gorgeous, and absolutely timeless. I love that this ring could easily become a beloved family heirloom. You are so incredibly talented. Trust your style -- it's unique and breathtaking. More of this! ❤
I absolutely love this concept of you designing your own rings. Creates some inspiration and designs that some may not think of because we're only exposed to what is "trending"
Have to be real I love the faceting you put in the gold and how you dressed up the solitaire. It really shows off the old European cut and is absolutely stunning under Candlelight.
Very pretty! I have an antique ring from my 2x great grandmother and I wouldn't change it for anything. The setting and the cut aren't ones you see anymore and I think that's what makes it so beautiful.
I’m not a fan of round cut diamonds, but I LOVE that cut on a round diamond! You may have converted me from Princess to old European! I want that ring! ❤️❤️❤️
I super much a lot LOVE my moissanites! They are stunning in any light but breathtaking in candlelight. This is my absolute fav gemstone. The only piece I lack is a bracelet but not sure I can afford one.
The old European cut is absolutely beautiful!!!
Love that old European cut - and that is a gorgeous ring!
I never knew anything about euro cut, but now all of a sudden that is what I want! 😁
Been following your channel for a while now, and I always look forward to your videos. Thanks for being so real with all of us! Your energy is appreciated 💎 from a friend in Houston, TX.
Thank you!! I have always loved the older cuts; there's just something special about them, especially these days. Your design is exquisite and the execution is flawless. I have no doubt that this is a piece that will become a cherished heirloom in someone's family. ♥️
So gorgeous!!! I love moissanite and how unique the ring is! Thank you so much for your amazing videos :)
I'm 73 years old and have my grandmother's wedding ring which is an old European cut diamond. I love her ring but your design is beautiful. Great design, good work!
Love , love the old cuts. Have several of them. Your ring is gorgeous. Life is too short to not explore all that you can do. GO FOR IT!
Absolutely stunning ring! The setting design complements the old euro cut perfectly. Excellent eye for design & beautiful craftsmanship.
The ring is gorgeous, great job! I love the old European cut, it's lovely.
I always prefered old european or old mine cut stones (beautiful craftsmanship made by man, instead of machine) I feel like it lends it a softer feel, I think brilliant is too "harsh" and too robotic instead of romantic.
Also always been a sucker for the Art Deco period design. You can buy european cut & emerald art deco rings in antique stores 😊
Oh my sparkles, it’s stunning! It’s so grand yet simplistic, perfectly elegant
What an absolutely gorgeous ring you’ve created …and definitely in love with old European cut style, I have one I had put into a pendant ❤️
Stunning ring!! I love vintage and antique jewellery, the styles and workmanship are incredible, my engagement and wedding rings are vintage and I love the old cut stones.
Oh wow. What a stunning ring! Absolutely beautiful 😍
The Ring is magical. So pretty. Usually I don’t like yellow gold with diamonds, but this works beautifully.
Absolutely stunning. Both the cut and the setting! Your design is something I'm not gonna be able to get out of my head.
It's such a beautiful ring Jordan!! I love the old European!
Oh my gosh! One of the prettiest rings I've seen! Nicely done! ❤
Ring is absolutely gorgeous!
That ring is stunning!
I love the exquisite delicate setting you made for the ring and the stone. It's breathtaking!
I love it! I think the old cut makes the stone more interesting and even look bigger x
the ring is stunning--dainty, delicate, but a powerful statement with all that wonderful flash. and the price is unbeatable for the value you created with your imaginative setting!! i love it in the candlelight!
Omgoodness! That ring is stunning! I love the old European cut! Im almost 70, been married 2x, and have never had an engagement ring.or even a diamond ring. I'd love to have a ring that beautiful. I wanted to buy myself one but since I had to retire early I can't afford one. 😢💔
Iam 58 married twice as well . Still with second husband, we have been together 2o yrs. no diamonds too expensive for us. I have moissanite earrings studs and small ring in gold. I love them both they are beautiful. I would highly recommend moissanite it’s alot cheaper then diamonds and just as beautiful. Further it’s almost as hard as diamonds also. So u can wear all the time. Treat ur self if u can ur worth it. Best wishes too u.
Beautiful ring! Also loved the shots in the candlelight
The ring you created is absolutely stunning. I love it.
The most gorgeous ring I have ever seen. Learning something new every day and this amazed me!
Think I found my favorite ring of all time. Moissonite, old European cut, & that setting make an exquisite ring.
Wow! Absolutely stunning! Beautiful work!!!
I like your suggestion about the Daybook, and Old European cut is my favorite, more discrete, more soft mysterious sparkles. Thank you for editing !
This ring is so lovely!
What you made is absolutely stunning! I love everything about the style.
I love the old European cut, it’s softer and goes well with candlelight indeed! The ring you made is gorgeous!
I've always been a diamond girl, but after discovering Moissanite I feel in love with it. The old European cut is beautiful! I think I probably like the modern brilliant cut the best, but I love both a lot.
And the ring you made is stunning!!!
Beautiful ring! Beautiful cut!
This ring is beautiful! Well done!
I love the old European cut it’s so beautiful. The ring is gorgeous!
I've always been a fan of the old European cut and the ring you created is STUNNING.

Wow what a beautiful cut!!
Wow I am absolutely obsessed with this ring! 🤩
The old European cut is gorgeous! This is a stunning design 😍
This ring is gorgeous! Can't afford it right now but if I had the money right now I definitely would! Compasses have a special place in my heart. I love the Old European Cut, it's so different! I hope you keep this on your website because I would love to purchase it one day!
That ring is so classy, it's amazing~
Yes! I don’t even like modern diamonds, but love this European-cut one that you did! Plus journaling is fantastic for creative people! Love your channel!
When my husband proposed to me, he didn't have ring. We were a bit young and really couldn't afford much. We got my finger sized with the intention if buying a ring before the wedding, and it turns out my ring size was very small. (4.5) We lived in Guam at the time and went to literally every Jeweler on the island to commission a ring my size, no one could or was willing to do it because something about the integrity of the band to the diamond ratio would be compromised. Our friend who was a machinist at the time, ended up making us our first set of wedding rings from scrap metal of the ship we were all stationed on together. It was a wonderful engagement gift, and that set along side the wooden wedding set my husband made by hand for our wood anniversary are my favorite.
Wow, gorgeous! Especially in the candlelight!
Beautiful work - you are gifted in your craft and your hard work and dedication come through on this simple yet stunning piece.
That ring is beyond gorgeous!! I love the implicitly of the setting..really shows off the stone and your skilled workmanship! I prefer Moissanite over diamonds (unless they are Canadian diamonds)….just a stunning piece. X
My engagement ring is antique dated back to 1890. It’s center stone is old European cut it’s surrounded by less sparkly old miner cut diamonds . I absolutely love it 😍
My engagement ring is an OEC elongated cushion. It's gorgeous! I never knew this was a cut until I started looking into engagement rings.
The ring you designed is beautiful! I can't wait to see more of your work!
Wow that ring is beautiful. You are an amazingly creative person.
That's a gorgeous design.
yo the old european cut was ridiculously cool and sparkly under candle light! the lighting really makes all the difference. but since im never in candlelit situations, brilliant cut it is for me
Oh my gosh. I love this old European cut.

Because of this video, i realized my ring is an old European cut! It belonged to my husband's late grandmother. thanks for this video!
Thank you for giving me a whole new idea of what I want for my future engagement ring! Loved learning about this style of cut
I am absolutely in love with the old european cut.
I love love love it
It is so lovely!
Gorgeous ring!
I have an OEC that I inherited from a great-aunt, and an old mine cut. The OEC has big chunky facets and seems more ‘romantic’ to me than the bright glittery brilliant cuts.
Amazing ring 😍 i also love how this video is light and funny yet educational and inspirational ☺️
The old European cut is definitely my favorite
It’s a gorgeous design. Great job!
I love it your ring. I own a moissanite OEC ring as a alternate ring. I wanted something’s mg different from my brilliant cushion E ring. I fell in love with it. Also mental health is important I’m glad you found a good outlet.
Wow I had no idea about those different cuts! The European cut is so pretty! Your design is so so beautiful! Now I need to bug my husband for our anniversary gift 😊
