Of all the Anime with Alvin episodes, this one may be my favorite! There was a little Boba tea/dessert shop around the corner from a movie theater and pizza place I frequented as a kid. They sold these w/ custard or Nutella filling and they were the best! I haven't eaten one or thought about these in almost 15 years, and didn't even know what they were called, but this just flooded me with so many memories! Thank you!!
Why don't I like Boba tea or any sweet or black tea? Everybody likes it but me. There's literally coffee and tea shops that serves nothing I like. I just don't like drinks, especially healthy ones. Now I do I like to take fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries with a dash of other fruit juice and pulse it into a smoothie.
@@theresaakins2317 I think you might have to find out what you don’t like about it. Is it the taste that’s too strong? Do you like tea unsweetened? I made some matcha flavored taiyaki and filled with sakura custard last year and it was amazing. also i just cooked it with custard in and it was fine. Easier than piping.
The next Anime with Alvin episode should be about Tatsu's meal for his wife in The Way of the Househusband. The show even tells you what the meals are!
my memory of mha has been in tatters but izuku figuring out how quirks work, as well as his own, were one of my fonder memories of the series. the trial-and-error experience of this episode felt very characteristic of that experience. calling upon previous anime w/ alvin food in this one was a cute detail too.
I miss when I used to go to columbus for kendo tournaments in college and the japanese culture club was always there selling takoyaki, taiyaki, anpan, and tea.
Back in the late 1980s, I lived in Singapore for a couple of years. Used to go to the Japanese department stores - they all had their own restaurant. I think it was at Daimaru that they had a taiyaki stand; I always liked the peanut-filled ones the best.
have been living in singapore for many years of my small life. the place called daimaru is closed u.u i think my mum would know about it, she was in her teens at the time ^^
Alvin is from Buzzfeed originally, has a background in cooking videos done on Buzzfeed in a different style so this definitely isn’t a new rodeo for him but he has slowly grown into the role in an extremely beneficial way for sure.
Alvin did start in the BCU imitating Babish (as an April Fool's gag) and has grown into his own... voice. But a different kind of crazy. The no-resistance kind. :D
I am lucky enough to have a local company in Northern Virginia called Rice Culture that makes a variety of flavors of Taiyaki. You did a lovely job on these.
I love tayaki and this makes me want to make some again. This might be sacrilege but to save time I just use prepackaged pancake mix. It seems to work just as well, what can I say I’m lazy like that.😅
Not sure if it's the same with food, but in scale modeling, the bit that squishes out between the two parts of the mold (regardless of if it's cast metal or injected plastic) is known as "flash."

I recommend avoiding this one mistake when attempting these for the first time: Do not name ANY of the fish. It will be tragic. Wait till you have it down.
A very common mistake -Taiyaki are well known for their quirky personalities and loving nature. Naming them only cements them as valued members of the family; eating one's family is not recommended, which makes it all the more tragic when one ultimately does. RIP Taiyaki George-kun; you will be remembered fondly. Swim forever in our hearts, may you dive always in the waters of eternity.
Ah yes, Ayu’s favorite. One of these days, I’ll sit down with a coffee mug full of heartbreak medicine (bourbon), and binge watch Kanon. Speaking of which, I think Akiko’s jam would be right up your alley. Maybe making it with umeshi would bring about the desired agony.
Awesome video! Its really cool to see how Taiyaki is made. If you can, i would love to see the a video on the birthday cakes Makato makes for Usagi and Rei in Sailor Moon Manga/ Crystal anime!

I am really digging the Anime With Alvin stuff, and I feel like there's a different-but-similar humor that I enjoy with Babish, and it just reminds me why I should be watching more of this! Also, I should try a taiyaki. If you don't have a taiyaki pan, can the batter be used for anything else, or would it be wrong consistency for stuff like pancakes/crepes/waffles?
I'm starting to believe Babish is low-key hired for majority of film and series productions, and only quarter of his income is from RUclips. And most of these videos are "behind the scenes".

The fact that these things and a broken microwave are extremely plot important is still amazing.
