  • The full horror of sexualised abuse in the Church of England has claimed the scalp of Archbishop Justin Welby. Was he the victim of a witch hunt; a man forced out of office by unfair pressure as many seem to think? No, say the Matts. And there’s a CONTENT WARNING on this episode: some of the ghastly abuse suffered by victims of John Smyth is discussed, as is the wider issue of child abuse in other churches including the Roman Catholic Church. Also - what difference does the interlude between Trump’s first and second term make? A lot think the Matts. Find out why! Enjoy.

This organisation needs clearing out. It is horrific torture. It’s the work of evil and neglect. Welby has gone & the rest need to go. What a failure of these religions.

"If you are not complicit in this cover up then you go to hell" - That's the main message that the clergy carry, it's awful

Just want to say, instead of talking about Justin Welby, where were the parents? Kids come back from Christian camp with bleeding bottoms and they don’t notice? In Winchester, didn’t matron, other teachers notice these kids were being beaten? Go back to the beginning, the people who were there at the time.

Lots and lots of adults knew or saw/heard something. None of them did anything.
Welby has resigned because he was given very clear knowledge of what happened in 2013 and did nothing. In 2017 ch4 news made the whole thing public. He promised an independent report and that he would meet with the victims. He slow walked the report and didn't meet any of the victims

Welby has destroyed the CofE. Any dedicated parishioners, perhaps, should question their membership of this faculty religion?...

I am an American having lived in Paris and Great Britain. I have enjoyed your program immensely. Welby attended my church in Paris before he became a vicar. I remember him being encouraged to join the church in this way and never quite understood why. Not impressed. I am well relieved in the present outcome not only because of his appalling mishandling of Smyth but of his watering down if not total disregard of the the scriptures. I feel a sense of divine intervention here. I would rather suffer the consequences of unpopularity and scorn by being too conservative re: God's word and fearing God vs fearing public opinion in an effort to fill pews. I pray that the next candidate is not afraid to stand firmly behind the word of God, fearless and not swayed by a woke agenda and fellow Bishops. To stand firm for the sake of the Gospel. To stand firm for Christ nd Christ alone. I have no doubt that the churches will fill again following a revival.

American here. Man do y'all know a lot about American politics and history. Major props.
I clicked on this video to hear about the Archbishop of Canterbury. Just curious what your sources are. I've been avoiding reading the Makin Review just cuz I think it's going to be really disturbing. Is that where you're getting your information? Or did you get it elsewhere?

We are all guilty gentlemen. Of ignorance, naivete, pride, of even hope. Jesus told us. The normal Christian life. I send you out. To what? Sheep and then the wolves. And we have shepherds. And being human they will fail. As do we all. Smythe was just another wolf. Vicious this one. There are plenty more. Quite likely many of us will know one. Without knowing it .Perversion and such has many guises. Perhaps we all have some shady edges in our lives of sin. Justin was pastorally charged - as will be his successor with tending 85 million sheep. Did he fail? Of course. It's a question of did he try and was he willing to give his all. I think he did.
Jesus came to die at our hands. Accused, scourged, tortured, crucified by the crowd of his days. He was enthroned on a cross. 'We' judged him and killed him. No resignation for Jesus. But we needed to have him. Dead. Justin admitted his failure. His epitaph must wait awhile. There will many anxious to write it. In glee.
