- Solve Windows Can't be installed on drive 0 partition 1 error while install Windows 10. You can fix this error without any file loss if you do correctly otherwise it could happen. How to Fix Windows Can't be installed on drive 0 partition 2 error while install Windows 10. Can't select windows installation drive : error : Windows Can't be installed on drive partition.

What is Windows Can't Be Installed on Drive and Partition?
This error can occur when selecting an install drive after the first stage of Windows 10 installation.
Process.
If the partition you selected here is a local disk of a drive, the solution to this need to be done very careful. Other than that, if you are using a hard drive or SSD completely for Windows 10, then the solution can be done very fast, and simple.
Let me make it more clear.
Here you can see all the partition of the drive connected to the computer. If Operating system is installed on a Partition, commonly known as C drive of a Hard disk. Then the fix is only need to apply on that particular partition. And its essential to install windows 10 without damaging other partitions. For that, you need to do this procedure more carefully.
Let start procedure. use your computer keyboard and enter the Command prompt option. For that , hold the Shift key and press F10 key.
Type : Diskpart command and hit the enter key.
Type : List disk
It will shows the connected disks.
Type: Select Disk 0.
Disk 0 is now selected disk.
If you want to use the entire hard drive space for the Windows 10 operating system. From this point you can type the "clean" command and press the enter key. Then close the cmd (command prompt ) and proceed to install windows 10.
( following commands will helps you to save other partitions)
Type : List volume
it will show all system partitions.
Type: select volume ?.
Once the volume partition is selected .
Type : Clean
Type: Create Part pri
Type: Active,.
Type: format fs=NTFS label=DEE Z quick p
it takes some times to get formatted.
Type :Assign Letter=C.
Type: exit
and close the CMD.

Now try to refresh the drive section it will allows you to select and install without any problem.

There is two way to recover your important data if loss.
1, you need to have one more working desktop PC. If then, disconnect the hard drive from the loss computer and connect it to the working computer, and install a recovery tool like getdataback , Power data recovery, Recuva, Disk Drill, Pandora Recovery etc., on the computer. Then, Run the recovery tool and locate the "drive" and start recover.
2, Use another "hard drive" or any USB storage that support up to 32 GB file. And, choose that drive to install the windows operating system. After the installation log in to windows desktop. Then, install the same recovery tool on the computer, and try to recover ( no need another PC ).

Just a heads up to anyone that may be reading this, the important step here is running diskpart, and then running the clean command on the correct disk. You don't really have to do the rest in the command line.

Its easy, just do this inside of the installer, when you are at the select disk to install Windows on part:
Click Shift + F10
Type "diskpart"
Type "list disk"
Select your disk with "select disk " + disk number
Type "clean" (It formats your drive, make sure its empty)
Type "convert gpt"
Type "exit"
Now close Command Prompt.
Click refresh
Select your drive to install on
Click "New"
Click "OK"
Select your drive then install Windows!

One point not addressed in it is that Windows 10 (and presumably Windows 11) need have the partition formatted for "GBT" instead of "MBR" which my old drive had. It was a simple command, after "Clean", insert the command "convert GPT". I am now loading Windows 10...after 2 days of trying the "Tricks" from other sources.

I'm glad reading this comment. I was stucked because the "insufficient disk space" at the end of copying step. The disk had been cleaned so I wonder why there is no space. Then I tried the convert GPT then then windows installation step continued to number 2 (installing windows). Thanks 👍🏻

Everyone complaining that they lost their data should not be doing these tasks. Hire someone to do it for you if you don't know what your doing! When messing with drives you can ALWAYS loose data. Ps. He literally said to clear/clean the drive and you typed it. Good luck with your computer!

I tried to format C drive and install windows 10 64 bit by watching your video. But using your commands, my disk fully got cleaned. How to recover ? All my volumes got wiped. Any help is much appreciated.

I followed this video steps, and my 450GB data in another partition also lost completely including my works data, and the partitions became merged into one partition.. keep in mind to backup first before doing these..

Ultimately, I just selected disk 0 and cleaned; which allowed me to re-install Windows from my boot USB

Thanks for telling us this will wipe the drive. I was hesitant when he said to type clean the drive, but did it anyway. Then he said to format it and I was like nope I'm not doing that and stopped. Started my pc on my old drive and went to disk management to check my new drive... all files gone. Thanks bud!
Bro, use any recovery tool to recover data ( such as MiniTool or any other ), free cracked versions available from "getintopc". Note., don't install recovery tool on the same disk that you lost data.

I obtained a used desktop PC with a 2TB Seagate HDD via Trash Nothing, here in England, and could even boot it into its BIOS (from the HDD). Then when booting from a USB loaded with the free Microsoft Media Installation programme I could not get past "Partition 0 cannot be formatted as it is not NFTS."
After following your instructions I was able to install Windows (using my previously purchased Windows 7 key) straight after inputting the > clean command (the cleaning only took 2 seconds) as you suggested, then returning to the Set-up window, and clicking on New. The installation took a while (had to connect to the internet to complete it). Thank-you, my friend.

You saved my life buddy! I was ready to pull my hair out discovering I couldn't re-install windows.
Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. I've followed everything as directed, this cleared my entire 1 TB HDD instead of just the chosen partition. Lost all the rest of the drives and files.
use diskpart again, then force close cmd after successfully use "clean" command. after that use "Refresh", click next to continue installation. If it doesn't work , you may try to recreate bootable USB in MBR instead of GPT, and change boot option from UEFI to legacy in bios settings.

You should have to give us a warning that you will lose your file
normal, if you format the partition... this are the basics. You have to know which partitions contain what and how much important the data is.

I tried to format and install in selected partition only. I follow video stepwise for this but at last my all partitions are deleted even i give clean command to the selected volume only. I lose all my data. At last there is a single partition remain with all disk formatted. Do not try it if u want ur data which r in other partion.

Clean command will clean the ENTIRE disk which is selected. It will NOT only clean/wipe a single partition

When you apply the command " clean" it will delete the entire drive. In this video, when he cleaned the volume (8), it deleted the whole (removable) drive. So all the files will be lost. If lost, you have to remove the drive and recover the lost contents with a recovery software in another working computer.

I don't understand you should have said at first that full HDD or SSD will be cleaned. You didn't. If I say I lost my official data and it hampered on my education degree, what will you do? Just because of following your video. I lost everything I had.
It gives you a pop up before you confirm for doing it. It's your fault for not reading.

My Data is Lost, after your steps my harddisk has only 1 partition available and that is totally empty, what should i do now, i want to recover my data
If you have a running computer, there are several ways to recover it.
1, Create a sub booting device to boot your device on which data is lost. (I mean, you need to create a USB or an external hard drive to boot the windows for your device. For that you need to have a working device and a software called Wintogo or Wintohdd or Wintousb). This will allow you to create a device as a windows launcher media.(it's not a bootable installation media, )
When you're done, connect that media to the PC and launch the windows, you may need to set up the operating system before launching widows. Then install a recovery tool and start recovering from the lost hard drive.
2. Disconnect the Hard Drive and Recover with a Running Device.
3. Continue installing windows on the hard drive without creating any partitions (no other device required).
Once you have completed the installation, download and install a recovery tool on your USB. Then scan the hard drive ( please note ; do not install recovery software on your lost hard drive, it must be run from another drive).

After selecting the disk 0, then list volume my C drive does not come in the list and also my computer keep restarting to windows setup.

This is BS. He selects Volume 8, and 8 is shown as "Removable". This means he is doing all that to a removable drive, and with a formatted size at 14GB, I would say it is a 16GB USB flash drive.
