I had the great pleasure of playing in an orchestra that accompanied her for the Copland Clarinet Concerto. She made it sound like she was improvising the whole thing on the spot in genius fashion. I'll never forget that beautiful performance.
It's ok to move like that but you can hear the sound changing and morphing as the instrument moves up and down. It's not necessarily musical either (the way that the tone mutates as she does it) She could still play beautifully with amazing phrasing and musicality without moving as much in my opinion. This way, the sound will be more even.
I like Rock, Jazz, and country, but there is no music today that can match the beauty and complexity of Mozart, the man is long gone, but his music shall be remembered for IONs
I am not very old, I'm only in middle school, I play clarinet in band, When I am older, I plan on getting a scholarship in music. I would like to play like this some day. In additions to playing the clarinet, eventually I would like to get better at other instruments. Enough said, I completly agree as well, I don't even listen to much music other than classic, because it helps me see others play very well. If I listen to Mozart, the following generations will, too.
mikaela C. You sound very dedicated. I can tell this music inspired you. This woman is extremly good and flawless clairmet player. You'll have your work cut out for you to be at her level. When I was your age, I was 1st chair French Horn playert. I switched from trumpet at my Band directors request, because I had natural ability so he decided to put me on a more challegeing instrument. I say if you are a more advanced player than your peers, you might have a chance if you persue. Good luck!
rbagel55 i have been told by my peers that i was important to the rest of the clarinet players in my band and that i play very well. at the end of my school year, we had a talent show. there were only three instrument players in the show, me being one of them. all of the others played music from parts of a book we have that are from like when you first learn what instrument your playing. i when above and beyond that and found a music sheet that was more for players two grades older than me at the time. p.s.- the other two were from a grade older than me lol. i rocked it, i honestly was a little scared when later that same day people (including teachers) kept coming up to me and saying i was awesome. there were like 30 people that told me that throughout the day. :)

I find her movements add a level of passion that wouldn't be there if she stood like a statue and simply played the notes. I play saxophone, mostly the tenor and occasionally double on clarinet so I DO know this.....she's VERY good....much better than me. BRAVO from the USA!
the low register starting around the 4 minute mark had me nearly orgasmic. I don't think most people appreciate how hard it is to go from above the staff to the bass of it. Clarinet has 4 octaves to it. She just jumped two ranges with absolutely no adjustment period. That is mastery. The tightness of your grip and lips on the top registry with the high and delicate sounds are so very different than the loose hollow meloncoly notes you must be of one continual low push from the base of your body outwards which also different from the chipper whimsical play that's happening around 9 minutes where you have to have a loose grip and a tight lip. The fact she can bounce so flawlessly is clear mastery that I did not appreciate until i got a clarinet back 5 years after having mine destroyed in a car wreck. This is the first weekend I've really tried playing it since I bought myself a used one as a birthday gift three weeks ago. Her mastery makes me giddy

How wonderful is the Basset Horn in this performance, with all of those wonderful low notes below the normal (written) Eb of the Soprano Clarinet. Listening to a performance of this standard simply brings the music of Mozart alive with a beating heart into the Twenty-First Century. Bravo, to Sharon Kam, but also to Maestro Manfred Honeck and the wonderful musicians of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. How privileged was the audience at this performance.

Such a performance of perfection. Yet a gentle applause after nearly 30 minutes of bliss, I would probably have embarrassed myself and shouted it from the rooftops. A brilliant orchestra and yes, I believe there was a lady called Sharon, to whom no words could describe her performance.
This girl had a lot on her plate and nailed it. And all the while giving so much attention to presentation. I am a guitar player who has never really listened to this kind of music, but I'm impressed. Very impressed. I think I like this kind of music now.
You should man. I am a 50 year old guitarist from S. Texas and don't get me wrong, I love playing and listening to rock, Jazz, country, and blues, but it is no comparison to the Beauty and complexity of Mozart, Beetoven--etc. If you ever played in a rock band-well you know getting it all worked out takes work, but if you imagine an orchestra with 100 or so players, and listening to all the parts here, (not just Kam's clarinet playing) but all the separate string, horn, woodwind parts, and you begin to understand the complexity of it Mozart the man is long gone, but think the music will be here as long as there are people here

I read somewhere that the great Benny Goodman wanted to listen to his favorite recording of his "beloved" Mozart clarinet concerto during his final hours (or maybe it was that he wanted a copy of the score with him)...at any rate, what beautiful music to leave this "mortal coil" with!

My dad played most of the instruments within his reach. The most I remembered of him playing was the clarinet. I love to listen to the sound of clarinet. It reminds me of him as he has gone.

I always used to think that musicians who moved excessively while playing were just being pretentious - until I saw a video of myself playing the piano. I've asked many other musicians and most of them also say that they are unaware of their movements.

silvr94 My high school band class used risers during class (there wasn't anywhere else to put them where they wouldn't be in the way, so they were set up in the band room) my trumpet player friend managed to knock himself right off the top row. Just fell right back and hit the floor 😂
It depends on the musical instruments they play, I'm a pianist, always sitting in front of the piano, however, if a clarinet player I were I CANNOT HELP DANCING AND JUMPING AROUND playing this concerto :-)

I am very glad this showed up today on RUclips. This brings back awesome memories. I played this in high school. Earned me a scholarship to a music school. Decided on another path. No longer play clarinet. The second movement is the hardest to play.

I know! I used to play in my middle school concert band, and I loved the instrument! I had to quit however, because the cost of staying was far too great for my dad to pay
Bravo, Bravo!!! A flawless performance. Wonderful intonation with the orchestra and note-perfect. The nuance with dynamic phrasing is something to hear. How wonderful is the Basset Horn in this performance, with all of those wonderful low notes below the normal (written) Eb of the Soprano Clarinet. Listening to a performance of this standard simply brings the music of Mozart alive with a beating heart into the Twenty-First Century. Bravo, to Sharon Kam, but also to Maestro Manfred Honeck and the wonderful musicians of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. How privileged was the audience at this performance.

This woman gives a most beautiful rendition of this piece. Julian Bliss is another excellent exponent of the classical clarinet and I love listening to him. But Sharon Kam has captured my heart. She plays so wonderfully well and enriches my appreciation of the Adagio, particularly. I am transported. :)

Such a performance of perfection. Yet a gentle applause after nearly 30 minutes of bliss, I would probably have embarrassed myself and shouted it from the rooftops. A brilliant orchestra and yes, I believe there was a lady called Sharon, to whom no words could describe her performance.

You should man. I am a 50 year old guitarist from S. Texas and don't get me wrong, I love playing and listening to rock, Jazz, country, and blues, but it is no
comparison to the Beauty and complexity of Mozart, Beetoven--etc. If you ever
played in a rock band-well you know getting it all worked out takes work, but if you imagine an orchestra with 100 or so players, and listening to all the parts here,
(not just Kam's clarinet playing) but all the separate string, horn, woodwind parts,
and you begin to understand the complexity of it Mozart the man is long gone, but
think the music will be here as long as there are people here

Kam's intensely elegant and emotional playing inspires me so much as a clarinet player. As a junior in high school, I'm hoping to major as an orchestral musician one day, and clarinetists such as her and Sabine Meyer keep me pushing forward in my practicing and playing.
