I was late for school many times playing this in a newsagents watching as the bus drove past in a morning, never had it on the ST tho
That's a good memory. Screams 80s. :) I like it.
I usually enjoy most ports of this game I played. I can’t remember if I ever played it in the arcade. I can understand how this graphics style could be off putting especially over the originals iconic look. It’s cool you went back and had fun with it. I appreciated the random ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ reference l. Cool video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you. It was probably a bit weird reference, but I like it. :)
Never played the arcade. This version, the only one I ever played, to me, is absolutely legendary...❤
I can understand that. I am sure even people who have played the arcade, they liked this a lot. There is nothing really wrong with this version.
@@TrusteftRetroWeekend I also really love the sound effects. So minimalistic. Never heard something like it again. Of course, to me, it has a high nostalgia factor, it was one of the first I played on the ST. But still, it is a cool game...
@@AtariLegend I get what you are saying about the sound effects. Plutos on the ST. I LOVE IT, sound included.
This was very useful to see, I’ve been keeping an eye out for this for a long time and it’s uncommon, but I haven’t wanted to spend a great deal on it because I don’t expect I’ll play it for very long! It’s interesting to hear about the difference to the arcade and yes in hindsight it would have been preferable to do a great job of replicating the simpler arcade graphics. I can see why they thought this would be better though. (For the even simpler unfilled polygon graphics fix it will have to be Catch 23 by Martech then, I couldn’t stand those graphics back then but could easily enjoy them now.)
Pretty much. :)
This is a very interesting one. The gameplay is very very thin though and unlike Asteroids, the simplicity doesn't make it better, it makes it show it's age. BUT, it's fun for a bit.
I don't know if I agree with you about gameplay, but I won't disagree that Asteroids is the better game.
The Atari 8 bit version on cartridge is very similar to this version but graphics are a bit simpler and it's less colorful. The Atari 2600 version is nothing like this, abandoning vector line graphics for colorful raster ones but it's still a very good game in its own right.
Thank you for the info. As long as the gameplay remains the same, I guess it's ok. My younger me didn't like it at all, but now I can accept it.
@@TrusteftRetroWeekend The 2600 version is the most different from the arcade one so if fidelity to the arcade original is most important to you, you might not like it. But I love it; it's one of the best 2600 titles. And the 8 bit translation is very good also, though not the equal of your 16 bit one.
@@RagShop1 That's good to know. Also good you like it so much. :)
@@TrusteftRetroWeekend Even after 40 plus years these games are still fun!
@@RagShop1 I still play some of them from time to time so yes. :)
I've already commented a while back but it's gone. :?
I don't see anything. No notification or even spam.
@@TrusteftRetroWeekend damn that’s weird. :( Not typing again lol but I was saying you’re right about the visuals. Plus I bet that would have produced better frame rates too..
btw check out Klaz’s version. Very interesting info about this ST release - looks emulated :o
@@AtariCrypt That's a shame. I would have loved to see the whole thing. Still, I am glad you agree with me. :) Klaz's video?
