Today my Norwegian-Irish grand daughter, Frida, told me how she loves an Irish singer called Inni-K. Minutes later found this sublime rendition of Eamon an Chnoic. Lump in the throat time. Bravo, Inni-K!
I was looking for this song on RUclips and the words ( local in these hills in Tipperary Ned of the Hill was from here ) And what a wonderful rendition... glad to see such a new and young singer at it.
Outstanding,, A rare musical offering, that like a wave bring the tradition into a contemporary presentation, with no compromise, just enrichment. Long may the muse flow
Dia dhuit Eithnea chara, How often does one find 1/4 in Irish trad old songs? I wish I had seen you at a coirm cheoil sa Bheilg. Beannachtaí ort ;) @Inni-K
Éamonn of the Hill “Who’s that outside whose voice is urgent, pounding on my closed door?” “I’m Éamonn of the hill, drowned, cold and wet, from endlessly traveling mountains and glens.” “Dearest love and treasure, what can I do for you but cover you with the lap of my dress?” And black gunpowder will be fired endlessly at us, and we will both perish!” “I’ve long been outside in snow and in frost, not daring to approach anyone. My fallow unplanted, my team in need of unyoking, and I no longer have them at all! I have no friend- how that grieves me- who’d take me in, early or late. And so I must go eastward across the sea, for it’s there I have no kindred.”
This is stunning. ❤

The ball was belted out of the park and is still heading out of the solar system with this magnificent offering.
I keep returning to this version. So beautiful!
now I know how elves sang, and were supported... thank you for translating such timeless voice to human range, with effortless grace!

This is a terrific song. I wish I knew the meaning of the words
Éamonn of the Hill
“Who’s that outside
whose voice is urgent,
pounding on my closed door?”
“I’m Éamonn of the hill,
drowned, cold and wet,
from endlessly traveling mountains and glens.”
“Dearest love and treasure,
what can I do for you
but cover you with the lap of my dress?”
And black gunpowder will be
fired endlessly at us,
and we will both perish!”
“I’ve long been outside
in snow and in frost,
not daring to approach anyone.
My fallow unplanted,
my team in need of unyoking,
and I no longer have them at all!
I have no friend-
how that grieves me-
who’d take me in, early or late.
And so I must go
eastward across the sea,
for it’s there I have no kindred.”
Thank you so much.
