    Relapse808 I couldn't reply to your question directly, but I usually run this adapter in dual monitor mode, since I use the touch screen on the SP3. I did manage to get 3 HD displays together and did a quick test by setting them all up. So, for anyone else reading this comment, you can't drive 3 displays and the SP3 display at the same time. I unplugged the adapter and my SP3 was able to return to the default resolution without any issues. If memory serves me right, I didn't have any issues when I did this video... Was this something that just started happening?

      Dower Chin can you recommend a compatible wireless projector for the SP3?

    • @dowerchin

      jaguarchua Unfortunately I'm not familiar with wireless projectors, so I can't really offer a good recommendation. Although, this is something I've been meaning to look into.

    For a dual monitor setup, any recommendations for a flickering display and the other display is not displaying anything?

    The only reason why this does not support 4 displays is because of the displayport limitations. I am very excited about this product because this is one of the 2 MST hubs that are being sold here in MX (the other one being the full size displayport to 3 displayports.)

      Thanks for the clarification. I had a feeling it was probably something to do with that, but I don't know much about the technical details behind displayport. Still, this is a very handy accessory to have, just driving two big displays off of a single displayport is useful!

      Dower Chin Very helpful indeed.

    • @mbaker1944
      @mbaker1944 9 лет назад +1

      +DarkCrow02 It is limited by the Intel Display chipset. Theoretically, you can do more than 3 displays. Trick is to use a MST device like this, and then run another display through a USB display adapter (think displaylink)

    Have you had any problems with the displays? I've been using the StarTech hub for about 3 months. Recently I've been experiencing issues with my displays randomly shutting off for 5-10 seconds and them switching back on. It doesn't appear to be due to intense graphics activities, in fact it happened once typing this message. I'm not sure if this is related to the hub or the Surface in general.

    Hey Dower Chin, have you installed the Windows 10 anniversary update? I have the Sewell HD Deck, and after the anniversary update, video is really laggy. Looking for something to replace it with.

      It's been a while since I've used this adapter, but I've been running anniversary edition for a while now on all my devices. Seems ok. I've been using a Startech USB dock.

    i wish my setup was as easy as you made it look. I am trying to run two computers on two monitors. But for whatever reason my one monitor keeps shutting off and turning on again. No matter how many time i try it. Im even thinking of buying new monitors because i am just fed up

    • @dowerchin
      @dowerchin  5 лет назад

      How are you trying to hook up the 2 computers to the 2 monitors? It may also depend on how old the monitor that's failing is.... I run multiple monitors all the time.

    • @Sjrick
      @Sjrick 5 лет назад

      @@dowerchin Well i am trying to do process of elimination. I have no issue when my mac is using both HDMI inputs on the monitors. I was able to use one DP port for my windows machine, but i would like to use both for each. Im in the process of looking for a hub or switch. I looked on Plugable and they told me a switch doesnt even exist for my needs. Since i know the HDMI works for the mac, i will focus on the DP ports for the windows pc. I just need to find a good hub

    • @dowerchin
      @dowerchin  5 лет назад

      @@Sjrick I'm assuming you are trying to run 2 external monitors on a Surface Pro 3? What resolutions are they? There are limitations on what the Intel chipset can handle for max resolution on external displays. At work, I've deployed Plugable USB3 docking stations which work very well. It's been a while since I ran my SP3, but I think I was able to run 2 external 1920x1080 monitors from the Plugable.

    You mean they can show 4 display at the same time both Surface pro3 and 3 monitor? Does it need to setup the Surface pro3 before it connected to the other 3 monitors? I just met a issue that my Surface pro 3 connected ,while it only 1 monitor display. Or is there limitation by monitor?

    • @dowerchin
      @dowerchin  9 лет назад

      D Maidou No the device will allow 3 external monitors or 2 external and the Surface Pro 3. There is no way to drive all 4 displays at once. I think there is some max resolution limitation with Displayport which doesn't allow for all the displays to be on at the same time.

    • @dmaidou9170
      @dmaidou9170 9 лет назад

      Then what is the max resolution of each monitor when use the Surface pro 3 to external 2 monitors? Seems it can only up at 1080P.

    • @dowerchin
      @dowerchin  9 лет назад

      D Maidou I asked Startech a similar question a while ago, and the answer is a little hard to follow, but the limitations of resolution are due to the available bandwidth of the device, which is 10.2 Gbps across all displays. It seems the Max recommended resolution is 2 x 4K displays + 1 x 1080P, display. It looks like the adapter should be able to handle the SP3 display + 1 x 4K and 1 x 1080p... Unfortunately I don't have a 4K display yet to test that theory out. I do run this adapter with 2 external 1080p displays at home.

    • @dowerchin
      @dowerchin  6 лет назад

      Honestly, I really don't know. It's designed to run off Mini-Display ports, so, if your graphics card has one, i guess it could work. I don't own any graphics cards that have a Mini-display port to attempt trying it out. I'm not sure if there is any technical limitations on what can be driven from a Mini-Display port though.

    so basically i can use an adapter of any brand to my surface pro 2?it just needs to have the minidisplay port?i found an hama adapter on my shop,which is displayed as "apple minidisplay adapter",but the port looks the same to my surface pro 2

    • @dowerchin
      @dowerchin  8 лет назад +1

      +Zontar82 In theory, this should work, but StarTech mentions the Surface Pro 3 on their site for this product. I've not tried it on my older Surface Pro 1. The mini DisplayPort is similar to Apple's, in that you can use any monitor adapter that works on an Apple on the Surface Pro. I've shared mini DisplayPort to VGA, HDMI adapters between my Macbook Pro and Surface Pro's.
