      Once you get used tp your gear ratio, you're always in the right one. 45:17 is my favourite atm. Gives me a decent amount of speed and accelaration, while still being able to get up the small hill I live on.

      European countries probably do not add up together as much as Russia alone. Although why dissemble, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. All countries of the Soviet bloc are extremely dangerous for everyone who ride there.

    To be honest, I have tried fixie, and it was very interesting. Then I realized, that I need more distance between bike and curb (for my spinning cranks). I also went on 200km trip one day, with a lot of little up and downhills (very tough experience). Then I realized, that fixe is not helping me. I admire that people can find pleasure in that type of bike.
    In addition I don't quite understand the issue with front brake. I'm not trying to attack annyone, but I just can't get it. In tough situation it can save our ass. In another - we could just don't use it. What is the problem with having it? It could be helpful sometimes. Having the "pure" bars without any stuff is so important? Why?

    • @capkong00
      @capkong00 9 лет назад +20

      1. looks ugly
      2. damage your front wheel
      3. street cred
      4. balance
      5. more dangerous to have one than not having one (if you hit the brakes on an emergency you'll flip, if u are good you can skid or hop out)

    • @wikrap1
      @wikrap1 9 лет назад +48

      +Yingcong Zhang
      1 - Quite understand. pure look is something worth. (Sadly, as bike tourist I'm very far from that..) :D
      2 - one front rim in city use gets about 20 000km or better - Affordable.
      4 - balance of what?
      5 - My last flip was a few years ago, when I intentionally tested what would happen if I push brakes as hard as I can :P In normal ride, even on an emergency I have full control of braking power. Both rim and disc brakes.
      I stil can "skid" with brakes, try to bypass obstacle, but additionally if there is no place to escape I could break. Brakes don't reduce possibilities.

    • @DrRatzFatz
      @DrRatzFatz 9 лет назад +64

      +Yingcong Zhang
      I can see some of your points. I ride fixed myself. But damage to the wheel by a brake you are only supposed to use in emergency situations? And a new rim does not cost that much actually. Fact is that it makes you stop faster, and I'd rather fit an ugly brake than running over a child or a Dog, cause no matter how well you ride, they'll eventually step infront of you some day. And seriously: If you can't use a front brake without flipping, then maybe riding bikes isn't for you an certainly not riding fixies.

    • @capkong00

    You can have a fixed gear bike with brakes. What you can't have is gears or a coaster hub.
    I have one for training but in all honesty it just isn't that safe in certain busy areas, especially for the non-cyclists who jump on and go (at least they tend to have brakes and many are single-speed freewheel).

      Ryan L Every asshole is bias when it comes to their own city. I ride in Los Angeles and I could easily say the same thing, but I have traveled enough to know that it isn't true and every city is going to determine your riding style, the good and the bad. Every city is different.

    I respect fixed gear riders, but when someone rides a bike without brakes in a german city, that person gets a fine. Also when smoking weed, or by spraying a graffiti.

  • @Shootinglefty
    @Shootinglefty 5 лет назад +1

    So cool. Ps the first two guys in the video riding bikes are rockin front brakes lol I took the brakes off my fixed gear, never looked back like Gordon Levitt in Premium Rush lol But seriously, people need to understand no brakes doesn't mean we don't know how to stop quickly. Maybe not as fast a brake though, but a bike with no hand brake is a exhilarating feeling.
