This was cool to watch. Rode BMX most of my life, up into my early 20's. Im 35 now, about 3 years ago I started riding BMX again. Ended up getting into different types of riding. Just grabbed my first fixie a few weeks ago and it has been non stop since then. Wish I would have gotten a fixed gear a long time ago. Best thing I did was getting back on a bike 3 years ago. Nice video, respect from Cleveland, Ohio.
I've always liked and ridden nothing but mountain bikes, so when all this fixie stuff started i decided to buy a fixie looking mtb with no suspension, changed the seat, handle bars, gears, removed the derailer, brakes, and finally paint it a nice dark red color, it turned out great, has a nice fixie vibe but still keeps the big knoby tyres.
his docu inspires me to keep riding and making films. I'm going to the Academy of Arts in Tirana, studying Film and Television Directing (Filmmaking), while commuting everyday with a fixed gear: Vintage frame, Flat Handlebar, 46/18
Your blaming fitness on age. I remember when I was younger people my age did the same thing as I smash their records. Your muscles reach full development at 42. Your testosterone doesn't naturally reduce until 55-65. 49:14 is for 26mph average, on a Cinelli like pictured that's only 275 watts for a typical rider. Hills matter way more than age fitness or any other excuse
@Ben Braceletspurple it's not a fitness thing, it's a knee thing. I used to ride 53 / 16 when I started on a fixed gear around 1997. I gradually went smaller each time I bought a new ring or cog, and honestly, my knees kept telling me that smaller is better for the type of riding I was doing (bike messenger). I'm 66 now and I'm a bit slower than 20 years ago, but I hold my own. 😉
For the shots of him riding his bike on the street, I was driving and shooting at the same time, so all the shots had Daniel on the left side. So I just got bored of him being on the left side of the street, and mirrored the shot. It was such a small shot though, so I'm kind of impressed you noticed!
Presumably to give the appearance that he is observing traffic laws (riding on the right - LOL). edit: And definitely ionceateapinecone, that was pretty observant... Was it the business side of the bike being wrong, or the backwards stop sign that was your clue?
That's some pretty seriously tall fixie chain-gain for your area of the country! I'm in NH and pushing just 42/16 (then again I have my daughter in a seat on the back and lowrider panniers in the front). Thinking of going to 46/16 now that my legs are returning after a few un42n8 years off the saddle. A pothole claimed my #8 incisor in 4th grade (on a bmx bike) and I've had root canal, braces, and ultimately now a bridge. I hate potholes.
got both my wheels stolen one night, because i got too drunk and left my bike locked only by the frame in Oakland on telegraph from about 12:30 - 4:00. walked for about 3 hours with a bike over my shoulder because i missed the night bus. no fun.
luv the documentary I can relate going thru bikes .? i ride 49/17 .... iam thinking of changing the cog to 16 T. then will b 49/16. with the change of the cog will it be more nimble to do tricks & going fast? what do u think?
16t for doing tricks is manageable but pretty tiring especially with a 49t chainring. I've been riding 49/16 for almost a year and it was a really great street/city ratio and pretty quick.
Have a flip flop HUB....fixed my tires and made the mistake of putting the chain on the wrong hub in a hurry. Never again...Everytime trying to slow down, it was pounding my knees and was just exhausting to ride. No thanks....I have switched back to the single speed hub and will never look back.
travis miller actually no. It’s even more expensive cause a cassette and chain have to be replaced on a geared bike. Geared wheels are more expensive in general period. I should know lol
Depending on the actual components, wheels can be the most expensive part on every kind of bike. E.g. Lightweight wheels on a road bike or a wheelset with Rohloff IGH and SON hub dynamo on a touring bike.
Hey man... love your video... you should make more of this type of stuff. There’s a huge market (if you will) for people wanting to get into biking. Just a thought...
Daniel Mejia, it depends to be honest some parts of ny are just up hills and down hills but not as brolic as in San Francisco’s. Since some parts are flats we usually ride 46-15/16 or 48-15/16/17
Thats crazy to me cause one of the more common ratios I've seen is 48/17 out here. Aside from my 49/14 on my cinelli, i also ride a 46/16 on a cheap steel felt that i just got recently and that is easy on the uphills but the flats feel too slow sometimes. ill be spinning out of my mind too haha. I guess its all just preference too tho
Daniel Mejia I have 48/16 on my crew bike and 46/16 on my steel complete, I stopped riding 49/16 since it felt odd when I was going to work tbh, I know a few who prefer to ride 48/13 for some odd reason
Much love to this guy, but why would you ever want to ride 49/14 ? This is a sure way to burn your rear tire every week as it only offers 2 skid spots :(
Please wear helmets, I wouldn't be alive now if it weren't for one. Especially on fixed gear without brakes. Braking saved me from about a dozen more accidents in the last 20 years
The perception that fixie are fast (er) is an illusion. Take a stopwatch and you will see. 200 meters from a dead stop. Then 1 mile or a kilometer. Then 5 miles.

2:27 his scratch looks like the specialized logo

Pot holes are death
numbaoneg101 Trolley tracks in the city are worse. It's a full stop and then automatic flip forward.
his ratio is death
been there. during a riot actually. not fun at all
Got that right
What size frame?
Man, that's a big gear! I'm an old man. 49/17 works for me. Oh to be young again! LOL!
That sounds like such a great ratio for tracklocross
How does it fell?

What a story, Daniel
This was really well made, great editing. Legit laughed at hes our old guy and the more you know.
Wow pedal rev has grown since "cheffer" started it in my younger days.. I do miss that place so much
i know this was only a class project but this was a really good short documentary, wish we saw more of this
Idk why but this documentary inspires me to keep riding lmao🙏🚴
It inspires me to keep riding and making films. I'm going to the Academy of Arts in Tirana, studying Film and Television Directing (Filmmaking)
He’s our old guy 😂😂😂
Thumbs up for the more you know.
Yes!!
I was hoping someone said something good about it.
(Someone from my class suggested I took it off)
Wow great film. Looked like the project was tons of fun. Love documentaries! 👍👍👍
thanks! and it was a lot of fun, makes me want to do more documentaries.
Josue Mejia Yeah man you should do one on me I also ride fixed! 😁
Enjoyed the video!
1:30 why is this shot reversed?
For the shots of him riding his bike on the street, I was driving and shooting at the same time, so all the shots had Daniel on the left side. So I just got bored of him being on the left side of the street, and mirrored the shot.
It was such a small shot though, so I'm kind of impressed you noticed!
it was the crank/chainwheel, seeing it on the left threw me for a loop lol
Presumably to give the appearance that he is observing traffic laws (riding on the right - LOL). edit: And definitely ionceateapinecone, that was pretty observant... Was it the business side of the bike being wrong, or the backwards stop sign that was your clue?
I'm on 52/16. Glad to know I'm not the only one out here without gears, hahaha.
This is dope,nice documentary bro🙏👏💪⚙️🔧

Damn. You got a huge weight to carry, nice!
love Ped Rev and Steve!!! REPRESENT SF
What kind of chain tensioners are those?
yakxattack surly tug nuts
When will we get new content? 🙌
got both my wheels stolen one night, because i got too drunk and left my bike locked only by the frame in Oakland on telegraph from about 12:30 - 4:00. walked for about 3 hours with a bike over my shoulder because i missed the night bus. no fun.
Seeing Daniel now in sf with jake and them is crazy. Time flies
Yo shoutout to Jake and Daniel going crazy in the fixie community.
My dreambike 😍😍😍

How much will be for a used fixie Bicycle
What kind of speaker does he have on his bag??
If you change the fork could you make it barspin?
Vigor with paralax fork ? Sick bro 👍
Is it easier to skid on 48/17 or 49/14?
What's the speaker on his bag
What kind of bar is on his bike?
Someone knows the song used in this docu?
Hey bro plz tell me the handlebar size of your bike
And what does the tittle mean 49/14
His gear ratio. Of the tires.
i currently ride 44/15 and i get 38km/hr top speed in my terrain. wanna improve my top speed.. what's the solution for my fixie?
what backpack do you have looks cool
chrome messenger bag
it’s a Ligma SugmaSac™️
Amazing Video! Could you please tell me what the name of that backpack is? 1:11
Chrome citizen messenger bag
Kruto super bro 😎 👍👍👍👍👍
Do you recommend the Cinelli Vigorelli frame?
You have to answer this.. Is that a riser or flat handlebar? And how wide???
720mm, +/-5mm rise(you can ride them upside-down). Ritchey comp flat
us.ritcheylogic.com/us_en/comp-flat-handlebar
wish i had a fixi
yeah same!
do it, best decision of my life
There's a remedy for that...
Have a flip flop HUB....fixed my tires and made the mistake of putting the chain on the wrong hub in a hurry. Never again...Everytime trying to slow down, it was pounding my knees and was just exhausting to ride. No thanks....I have switched back to the single speed hub and will never look back.
More like too smart....
What is the hexagon on his chest when he has his bag on?
That is his speaker.
So cool!
Good stuff
They were blasted in the last clip
3:40 stalin on the board! great documentary, comrade!
49/14 is a beast ratio
I rock 52/15, smash those knees boyyy
Nicely done!
thanks!
Anyone know what bars he has???
Wheels are only the most expensive thing to replace on a bike if you ride a fixie lmao
travis miller actually no. It’s even more expensive cause a cassette and chain have to be replaced on a geared bike. Geared wheels are more expensive in general period. I should know lol
carbon wheelsets are e x p e n s i v e
they cost like $600 usd ish for a decent mavic carbon wheelset.
Totaly false
Depending on the actual components, wheels can be the most expensive part on every kind of bike. E.g. Lightweight wheels on a road bike or a wheelset with Rohloff IGH and SON hub dynamo on a touring bike.
Love the Erasedxproject sticker ;)
Aye!!! Thanks!!
That parallax fork looks actually really good on a vigorelli
That back pack you're wearing is awesome what is it?
He is wearing a Chrome citizen messenger bag
Thank you so much
Hey man... love your video... you should make more of this type of stuff. There’s a huge market (if you will) for people wanting to get into biking. Just a thought...
What handlebars are those ?? also could someone tell me what is this octagonal shaped boxed strapped to his messenger bag, is this Bluetooth speaker?
the bars are ritchey comp 720mm +/- 5 riser and yea thats a boobotix speaker
Thanks dude :D
Yay my brother!
How many are you guys? xD
That sidi shoes!!!!!
Model???
Good shit
Much appreciated!
My brother's name is Daniel Mejia. I wonder if there's any relation.
who knows??
I wonder what his ratio is
Free lunch!!!
42x15 don’t knock it till you try it. Been on it 5 years.
I knew this wasn't set in New York when he said he put ranch dressing on Pizza. Welcome to Cali
"the more you know" 😂😂😂💀💀💀
my favorite part of the video!
isn't that a pretty bad ratio for skidding, swear you only get 2 skid patches...
49/14 = overgeared: hello 60 rpm!
That's a weird ratio... Fast but only two skid patches.
no skid patches cause you should never stop!!!!!!
Brah skids are what it's all about
you right, sick skids only!
Jamie-Ahanu Binding "skid patches" hahahahaha
It should be 48/14 so like 24/7 but another day
thats funny
whats the best gear ratio to have for keeping a consistent 15mph on flat ground
Cord Miller what’s your ftp
im running 48/13 but im made mtb into a singlespeed instead, living the slightly easier life ahaha
huh. for some weird reason i expected a documentary on fixed gear bikes.
Damn. Keep looking man. This is a fixie documentary. No fixed gears here
52x15 babbbeyyy
jweeze1 way to spinney for my taste: 56/12
hahahaha im currently riding 63/11
Bullshit he rides 49/14! :D Mamma jamma that is high as heck!
Exactly, that's a good ratio for the track or crits, but for riding in the streets?
49/ 14 seems so painful
46 14 fixed how i get about. Gears for girls brakes for benders 🤙🏼
Cute dog !
Thank you!!
Damn, 49/14? I was 49/16, so I went up to a 17T because it was murder on my legs.
im 48/13 and its fine. ill change to 48/17 soon and practice skidding. shit is hard to skid in my current ratio
Good editing, 49-14 in the city type sucks in nyc
Thanks!
Oh and I bet it does.
I figured it'd be way better there than in sf cause there aren't any hills to climb
Daniel Mejia, it depends to be honest some parts of ny are just up hills and down hills but not as brolic as in San Francisco’s. Since some parts are flats we usually ride 46-15/16 or 48-15/16/17

14mpr average speed running 49x14, I average 18mpr on my steel frame running 47x18. Gotta Spin to win bruh!
39x17 lol same gear inches as my bmx bike
I ride 48x15 and average 21 mph while riding lol..
the title made me feel tired, I'm struggling with my 46/18 ratio XD
Why you never wear helmet? Most lf Fixie user they are not wearing helmet
hipsters
@@herbertsdottir9223 lmao
I’d ride a much higher gear but it’s too hilly
49/17
Rip knees
Why does he look too small for the bike
I am ahah im 5'8" and its a 56cm but i make it work
fight on brother !
Please wear helmets, I wouldn't be alive now if it weren't for one. Especially on fixed gear without brakes. Braking saved me from about a dozen more accidents in the last 20 years
La fixie chulada de Rilas
pizzaaaa boys
YEEESSSS!!! haha
The perception that fixie are fast (er) is an illusion. Take a stopwatch and you will see. 200 meters from a dead stop. Then 1 mile or a kilometer. Then 5 miles.
Damm 49:14 I would use that on the track, and I push 46:18 cause I'm a bitch
I miss my 49/14 parallax build. So stifff
Too much gear for where I live.
OMG really! I would have thought it's too much gear for the Bay area for Pete's sake!
Mountainbikes > bikes that lose against potholes
ocBTyga mountain bikes < bikes that make city commuting fast and fun
hmm you should see me stunting trough traffic with my mtb
ocBTyga won’t be able to see you if im miles ahead
