In sailing this is called a square knot, and they’re not the strongest, as they come apart and we don’t use them to tie down important things like the sails or to tie the boat to the dock. ❤ (I’m apparently really could at tying knots in sailing because I crochet so…..🎉)
They both do eventually it really depends on what your yarn is made of. The only truly reliable way to keep them from coming undone is to put a small amount of fabric glue on the knots.

These will come apart eventually. I knit professionaly and would never ever use a square knot. Learned the hard way...

The magic knot works so much better. The square knot isn't reliable, it comes apart.

That's a reef knot (aka square knot). No way would I trim that close to that knot. Can easily come apart especially with synthetic yarns.

I also use a square knot. I have for years. Only one time did it come a part. I was able to fix it.
That is an ordinary square knot, and it sure will come undone, especially when you cut the yarn right next to the knot.

Not quite- A surgeons knot wraps the suture 2 times on the corresponding suture using forceps. Hope that’s clear. (Very Retired surgical nurse)
