  • Rockhounding an a abandoned copper mine in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the Keweenaw. Searching through tailings piles for minerals. Very nice place to look for zeolites and minerals that are associated with copper.

    Cool cliff mine and such enormous tailings piles! Gosh that must feel a bit over whelming with just huge piles of rock to search! What amazing specimens! Thanks for sharing!

      Very huge piles. It was a bit overwhelming, especially with the biting flies. I should of brought a heavy yard rake to turn up some material or shovel. A pump sprayer too. But was still a blast. Was worth the long drive to rockhound the Keweenaw area. I need to trim some of the pieces to display better. I got lots of cool zeolites. I'm happy. I appreciate you watching 🙂

      I agree. I wish I knew more about the geology and minerals up there in the Keweenaw, but I've been studying up. I like all the zeolites up there too besides all the great minerals associated with copper. Thanks a bunch for stopping by!

    We didn't know a lot of those minerals you listed off. That's a really cool mine site. It's always fun when there's lots of variety like that. Love that piece of episode with the copper layer. Just beautiful!

      I know you guys would love that area up there. Lots of cool camping areas and waterfalls and places to rock hound. One of the best areas around to hunt for minerals and agates. Theres a couple more abandoned mines I'd like to check out another time. Thank you Charlie and Liz for watching 🙂

    Excellent video Shawn, what a great experience and journey! I really appreciate you bringing us along with you. What a great place, I need to make it up there sometime. The flies are terrible, never seen them this bad before, that and ticks. Just amazing finds and the variety was super cool ad well. Love the sounds of nature all around you even back at your house where you cleaned them up, the birds sounded so peaceful!

      Hey buddy! Yeah, I got lots of bird feeders in my yard and plants to attract them and make sure they always have water. I enjoy them playing in my yard. I need to cut some of the rocks up and tumble a few. Still didn't find any elusive Lake Superior Agates up there 😪

      @@outdooradventureswithfayde6832 That's cool, same here, but probably not as many as you! I didn't think about a bird bath, water for them, good idea. I hope you find a LSA sometime soon, I'm still looking for my first too. I find it strange that I can find every rock from up there beside agates, lol.

    Shawn I wanted to go to the mines while up there also but soon realized there just wasn't enough time. I hope to return just to do the mines. It looked like a interesting place with some nice views. Sorry about the bugs, they got me also. I like all the pieces you have found. Some are very beautiful. How do I know if I find a Datolite? I feel like that place may be picked out. Its mostly old rock from years ago its not like a fresh mine right where the rock has gotten moved around recently.

    • @outdooradventureswithfayde6832
      @outdooradventureswithfayde6832  3 месяца назад

      @@jamesrich8463 Hello! Thank you for commenting. I have not found any datolite at that location. The Cliff Mine is definitely picked over and does not get turned. I have found zeolites and copper there. The only datolite I found was at the Caledonia Copper Mine near Mass City. You have to pay to set up an appointment. I'm not sure where else to go to have decent luck collecting datolite.

      @jamesrich8463 they look like cauliflower on the outside. Like big botryoidals. You can cut them open then and see if you have any. I have a video I made at the mine, and I have a video where I polished some I found. Make sure you go to the AE Seamans museum in Houghton and see their amazing collection of Datolite, copper, and other minerals from Michigan and all over.
