I've been a Detroit Lions fan my whole life. I started putting this together after the infamous 'Hands to the Face' game at Green Bay and the Quandre Diggs trade in 2019.
This video is a mix of tv broadcast, radio calls, and media impressions of some landmark Lions moments we will never forget.
Link to 1958 Detroit Free Press newspaper clippings on the Bobby Layne trade: tinyurl.com/yb...

As a lifelong lions fan, this video nearly brought me to tears. It's rough seeing this team getting screwed time and time again.
@Dakota J. no, stop. That’s nowhere near the same pain as a lions fan…
You misspelled "shooting itself in the foot".
@jetsbaby8117 jets? Lmao are you shitting me. Grow up kid and learn some history
I feel you 💯
@@CKO92no he didn't 😂
I swear the Detroit Lions are, probably, the only team in the NFL that will go 17-0 and still miss the playoffs.
Damn!
Watching this in the future, when the miss the playoffs, after a remarkable last half of the 2022 season…. Because of horrible calls against, the Rams? Seriously. Some really shit calls against the Rams, including a penalty for the Seattle QB running into a Rams player, a Rams player “grazing” the kicker and the kicker landing on the blocker, it’s just unreal. Wild that the NFL even had that Rams game ahead of the Lions, and the Lions played, just to keep GB out of the playoffs. Amazing game and they didn’t move on.
I don't think thats possible. 7/16 teams make the playoffs. Given the fact they play in the same divisions...
@@jaya1000 well, you completely missed that one, didn't you?! /wooosh
They would have found some sort of rule violation vacating 2 wins and per the rules of the NFL, in order to play in the playoffs you have to complete a full season. Detroit disqualified from the playoffs
Keep in mind, in the 10 sec runoff game vs the falcons, there was 10.5 seconds on the clock when golden tate was down, so even if he was short(which he wasn’t) the lions should’ve been allowed one more play, and in the Dallas game, dez Bryant came onto the field without a helmet to argue, so even if that somehow wasn’t pass interference, there should be a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. UNBELIEVABLE
You know the funny thing is, that I’ve seen that replay vs the Falcons at least 50 times and never realized that B. Poole was in the play. I’m best friends with his Dad and I will ask the young man what he thinks about that call when I see him. 😂
The Lions lost that game fair and square his knee was down before he cross the goal line and broke the plane bro the Lions lost this game.
Actually it was 11 or 12 seconds
I was @ this game, it was my 1st home game ever one of the best experiences in my life & that shit happened 🤦🏽♂️
He was most definitely half or a quarter of a yard short
They’re looking pretty good right now, I hope it continues. If any team deserves a magical season, it’s the Lions.
Wait for the NFL and the referees to screw them again this year
@@timjones7009yep just happened again

The stripes saying "happy thanksgiving" at 6:20, in a game where they totally f*cked the Lions was quite apropos.
Its honestly fucking evil
They did that to us last halloween😂😂😂
Man that pissed me off
The production on this video is A1
Bills Mafia here, this video actually had me shaking my god damn head. wtf man.
Knowing the Calvin Johnson play was 2010 makes me feel old as fuck
As an UK NFL fan, I feel for you lions nation. Your year is coming soon
We’re just numb to this bs at this point. Have to play 2 teams every week
@@Crumlee959 Start looking at the ownership, are they truly committed to winning or just winning enough?
Thanks for calling it we are looking pretty good.. plenty of football left
The Marvin Jones “no catch” that lead to Stafford injuring his ribs and potentially playing his last snap in Detroit brought me to this. Just wanna say this is great editing. The implementation of the cursed video from The Ring is the perfect metaphor for the eerily bizarre circumstances that have surrounded Lions football. I also forgot about that Mathis pick six in the Falcons game... the fact that they called that on a #22... it’s almost like the NFL isn’t even trying to hide it
Wasn't his last snap, but it was his last season. Which makes the 2014 playoff game even worse.
I still luv the Lions and I don't care what people say
Bobby laynes spirt doesn’t😂😂
Same it’s Detroit vs everybdoy!
Me too.
Names hurt man. Really sad now that Stafford is gone.
@@realcreamofwheat7728 Stafford wasn't gonna take us anywhere it was clear. He wasn't a bad quarterback but he isn't great either and we weren't gonna win a superbowl. Goff is most likely just a placeholder if he does shit we will replace him. The lions are rebuilding right now
Redskins Fan here. I recall the turkey day call vs the Texans.
These refs are awful
Each one of these stung. I remember each one of these.
10:30 Literally half a yard and a horrible rule destroyed the entire franchise. If they win this game they go to the playoffs at 10-6 and Patricia never gets hired.
the Game with the double hands to the face which won GB the game was the definite killer for Patricia.. the team was fairly competitive up to that point imo but that kinda broke them.. at least in an on field football way. There is a lot of controversy regarding Patricia in other aspects as we all know.
@@FifaPRg Bro, the last time the Lions could truly be viewed as competitive Alan Shepard was prepping for his first space flight.
Not a horrible rule if you pause you see his shin down before ball goes over plane of the goal line
@Bigjoe5162 honestly I think it's inconclusive, extremely close but the falcons helmet gets in the way too much to definitively tell. But the "horrible rule" I was talking about was ending the game with the runoff essentially punishing the Lions for the refs calling the play "wrong" on the field.
@@mottdropsie It's easily avoided by using a time out that they didn't bother to save. He was also very conclusively short. i.imgur.com/QE2VbPs.png
This is tough to watch, but with the Lions winning in 2023, it hurts a hell of a lot less. Let's finally bust that curse! Thx for uploading!
I watched this to remind myself, if we somehow do something this season. It was against ALL odds. Let’s go lions
Ravens have entered the chat
They lost in 2023
I’m a cowboys fan and I can’t deny that was a terrible call. I feel for the lions nation. Y’all will have your time. Cheers
Man when Obama up there calling out the refs you know it's under investigation 😆😆😆 those refs shouldn't be able to sleep at night til this day
Not to mention Des Bryant ran on to the field with his helmet off which should have been 15 yd Tech on is 10 yd tacked onto that. There are many other plays that have happened versus other teams especially Green Bay. It's also in that Dallas Game Suh was getting tackled and held constantly and they wouldn't not call holding on Dallas. Some of the referees were on Jerry Jones party bus earlier in the week so to me there's no doubt in my mind that game was fixed.
The karma of that was the refs screwed up the Dez Bryant call next game so then us cowboys fans got to get a taste of our own medicine
No, Lion's fans will not have their time. It's been almost 70 years. I can assure you as accurately as biblical prophecy, that the Lions will not win. Ever.
@@spry_guy There have been many teams in recent years with runs of futility even worse than the Lions that have broken through... never say (n)ever.
The best part is the curse is over now and when Stafford was traded for a QB that was blindsided and left very salty it all made perfect sense.
Goff is our curse-breaker and Stafford winning the SB right after leaving Detroit sealed it all.
It is our time Detroit!!
It would have been nice storyline for Stafford to be curse breaker because he grew up in the same childhood neighborhood of Bobby Layne and went to the same high school.
But maybe the fact that both were traded by Lions, with each winning championships on opposite sides of the trade, can be storyline of the curse getting reversed.
Why must I torture myself by watching this again? I lived it.
You could do a documentary and movie. There are many, many, many more, of NFL officials screwing the Lions.
Remember the hail Mary by Rogers
@@ExtraterrestrialBeing-jc7to phatom face mask call. Even Rogers laughed, when they called it. Corrupt officials, destroyed the career of Stafford in Detroit.
I'm surprised this didn't include the Dempsey 63-yd. FG as time expired, shattering the record long to beat Detroit, then dude kicks an unthinkable 66-yarder this year to break the record again in a game-ending, ball-crushing, doink off the crossbar and over FG to beat us...
@@johnboehmer6683 That was perfectly legal. Matt Prater's 64 yarder should still be the record. It cleared by 7 yards. The Raven kick this year shouldn't of happened. The officials purposely didn't call the delay of game penalty on the previous play. The Ravens never would of tried a 71 yarder.
@@stephensdygert7600 What was perfectly legal?
This was a very well done video my man. You deserve more views
Here’s Four more instances…..VS Seattle when calvin fumbled in the end zone and the Seattle safety batted it out for a touchback that should have never happened….aaaaaaaand VS GB in 2015 when a phantom face mask was called to give Aaron one more play for the Hail Mary winner…..and VS Baltimore when Tuck kicked the 68 yard FG, the prior play was a delay of game and should have moved the kick to a 73 yarder…..and hell last Thursday VS GB when the game clock clearly expired at the end of the 3rd quarter, they bomb a 40 yard pass that was allowed to count. It still happens to this day.
It’s so wild that Matt Millen didn’t know about the curse and he asked what it was in the preseason before the lions finally went 0-16. Exactly 50 years after Bobby lane cursed the team… wtf
Matt Millen can barely even remember what planet he's on. The man's a walking example of the franchise's inability to identify competent personnel.
My favorite team is Tampa, but I bless and confess blessings to the Lions... it is too much what they have suffered
9:04 I was at that game, it was a electric atmosphere. We thought we were going 3-0, and it was absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting when the ruling got changed and they said the game was over. Just sheer heartbreak.
these calls are just the tip of the ice berg
I was at that Houston game the crowd was crazy after that call. It’s so nice to watch the lions now after all of this
The Cowboys game what made me furious is they announced the penalty, should've been another one for Dez Bryant coming on the field without his helmet on, another penalty.... picked up the flag no explanation, then hearing Cowboys fans tell me to get over it,quit crying, then the following week hear all the Cowboys fans and Skip Bayless whining and crying saying they were robbed against Green Bay, Really!!! STFU!!!!
The Golden Tate play, he made the catch and came down with 10 seconds left
Just passed our 63rd year of not winning a thing. Congrats!
My favorite ones are where the referee on the field calls the play correctly, the reply video confirms the call, and the replay official overturns the referee's call.
The refs wishing a happy thanksgiving is just comical
It was evil
The thing is... almost any team can have compilations like this where it shows horrible calls (or non calls) that were incorrect. However, there is no team in the NFL where said calls have directly caused a team to lose the game. I've also never bought into the argument of "if they'd played better this call wouldn't have mattered", because regardless of whether they could have played "better", they still played good enough to win the game and still had the win taken away over complete nonsense.
Sad.. rules have literally been changed in the NFL cuz the Lions. All I can say is "one day" We will be a force to be reckoned with again.
Hope you’re feeling good now. Y’all deserve it.

Maybe Shelia Ford should sue the NFL for breach of contract for continuously hurting the franchise and lost revenue. You add the Trey Flowers phantom hands to the face call and the Phantom hands to Rodgers face before the Hail Mary along with the Marvin Jones "No catch" in 2020. Most all of these calls can be shown to have hurt the Lions playoffs chances, and playoff win totals. Look at how much attention the Saints got for one call. The NFL ignores us. Sue the NFL, Shelia and no jury in America wouldn't side with the Lions.
This bears fan will be happy to be a witness for you we saw them screw you guys over in Chicago to we saw it clear firsthand we talked about it the whole day and we knew for sure yes you guys are constantly getting screwed wouldn't be a bad idea to try to get fans from different teams across the NFL to put up evidence showing cheating buy these NFL referees they do not want the NFC North to be powerful like it once was that's a catch no doubt about that
Shiela c*nt ford should sell the team she has no idea how to run one.. she was just handed daddy's team
Sad part is, is that if any of these were the pats or the pack, they would have won all these games
The fact that this video could be like 20 minutes longer is even crazier
Time to add one more
yep
Wow
This is only a handful of them, I mean.... they are now not only doing it in our own games anymore, the Rams vs Seahawks games also shows they are willing to do anything to stop the lions from reaching the playoffs.
Totally agree on that, I still wonder if it was a case of Refs against the Lions, seems like it to me!!
god this gives me PTSD
glad we're good this year-- hope the Lions watch this vid before every game so they can have extra anger before every game
This is a great example of why I don't watch the NFL any more. It's barely more "real" than the WWE.
I'm sure the bookies are all perfectly OK with the league being rigged, but keep up the schizophrenic delusions.
Man the NFL really don’t like the lions😂😂😂
Not only dose he get the touchdown even though he was down we get penalized for throwing a flag
I had no idea how much the Lions have had to put up with 😮 I know who I’ll be rooting for in the Playoffs this year
Lions are my favorite NFC team. I love how the lions play with heart, they go out on the field and give it their all. They get robbed by officials, that sucks. Even Stevie Wonder would’ve made better calls than those refs.
Lol what? The lions have no heart
@@ericl3931 No brains either.
I'm wondering if any other NFL team could put a compilation together to rival that? Really, really don't think so.
Maybe the Bengals but they actually needed more plays from that Dallas game. It’s ironic that Detroit also hosted one of the most infamously sketchy Super Bowls between the Seahawks and the Stealers.
@@danielkaczmarski5688what if the Bengals play the lions in the Superbowl that would be crazy lol the kitty bowl
@@jaybrick8973 It's possible. But for some reason the NFL doesn't want the Lions to win and they're not too happy about the Bengals either.
Excuse me, Browns fan here. I feel the pain of Lions fans on these absolutely horrible calls, but I think the Browns hold the record for being screwed.
@@pianomanfred1948no dude, Lions have been screwed the most

No matter what it’s literally the refs vs Detroit 🤦🏾♂️
The same referees were involved in all these incidents including a couple different games with Green Bay that we got screwed on big time that everyone talked about
Every ref in this video should have been fired.
What a good video. Tortuous, but a pro job.
The Texans call was BS remember watching it on thxgiving.
So do I, screwed the Lions over bad, and they've struggled on Thanksgiving in recent years anyway......
HOW could they have reviewed that, and STILL NOT SEEN THE ELBOW AND THE KNEE hit the ground, knowing all of America was seeing the same replay?!
Player 22 ??
Bobby told the refs to screw us
I have to been a lions fan for as long as I can remember and this brought back memories for me
“If there’s one thing that you can take to the bank when talking about Detroit, it’s that… Detroit always comes back.” Here we are.
Congratulations, that's unbelievable!
That golden tate play was the worst in SPORTS HISTORY the refs call TD so we don’t have to call a T.O then they change the call and end the game lol wow smh!!
And this is one of the reasons that Caldwell lost his job because when things like this happened to him and his team he would just stand there like you saw looking like he was in a different world somewhere and never protest anything.....EVER!
That was bullshit. He never should have been fired in the first place.
@@treyblaze22 Having seen him coach against my Patriots back when he was with the Colts, I can assure you Caldwell richly deserved to be fired from the Detroit HC position. The man was an idiot.
Not only did the screw the pooch when overturning the PI call, they missed Dez Bryant running on the filed without a helmet to complain that the flag was thrown in the first place. That's an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty they also missed on the same play. That was absolutely the NFL wanting the next week's game to be Dal-GB instead of Det-Sea.
Coming back to this video and it needs an update man
Watching this after week 17 2023-2024 season with our win with the Vikings. King of the North. Never been so excited to be a Lions fan after 40+ years of dispointed.
12:08 they can throw the flag call the penalty and pick it up but fucking dez bryant can just walk out on the field without a helmet and contest the call? Holy fuck I'm still pissed about that.
How to piss me off in 16 mins
No more bobby layne curse LET'S FUCKING GO LIONS
That Forsett TD is LITERALLY THE WORST CALL IN LEAGUE HISTORY. How fucking blind is the league!?
Welp, 65 years later, looks like the curse may have finally been lifted..?!?
Why is this video only 16 minutes long?
Because RUclips doesn't have enough capacity to share every time the Lions, whether through their own doing, or with help by the NFL officials, lose in big games.
I'm all things considered a pretty content lions fan. I don't tend to get angry when they lose, almost all the time I laugh. Because many of the times it's our fault. But when shit like this happens it just makes my blood boil. If we are gonna lose we should lose fair and score. When flags are picked up, when flags are thrown late, when the momentum of the game is shifted due to a touchdown play that shouldn't be a touchdown, that just plain ain't right. Just imagine you're playing Monopoly, it's pretty close but it looks like you're gonna win, but all the sudden your opponent just takes an extra thousand dollars and then says "you can still beat me can't you?"
Especially in the playoffs. That Cowboys game still pisses me off.
What about Hail Mary that Rodgers threw? There are so many examples
The Bobby Layne curse must also apply to us keeping good players that's why they don't want to be here because of the curse
Lions even get screwed in games they don't play in. What about the bullsh*t running into the kicker call against the Rams vs. the Seahawks to keep the Lions out of the playoffs this year?
Bobby Lane came back with a vengeance.
2023 NFC Championship: Lions @ 49ers
Detroit had a 24-7 lead at halftime and then lost 34-31 and missed Super Bowl 58.
1957 Divisional Round with a role reversal
The Ring visuals used, Thank-you!
This sickens me
Just for the record, there were about eight more of those, including this year vs Seattle.
Every missed called or that Horrific decision to pick up that flag for the Pass Interference call will always upset me!! But that 2014 Wildcard game against the Cowboys was the game I felt the Lions had but that decision of picking up the Flag really set them back because of the League wanting a Packers vs Cowboys matchup in the Divisional Round...That 2014 Lions defense was special and that was Suh last season with the Lions and I truly felt that we would've gotten to the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP against the Seahawks and probably gotten cheated but at least gotten a chance to get the Super Bowl...But of course the Lions gets cheated out of a Obvious Pass Interference play that gotten picked up smh...The only chance that the Lions had of getting to the Super Bowl got destroyed by the League and their ways of rigging games!!
Yep and they don't call dez Bryant running on to the field without a helmet at least they got there pay back the next week when Dez didn't catch it 😂
15:10 I felt his Pain... I cried with Suh...
I WANTED REVENGE!
But Suh left...and took the Teams Ability to Pass Rush with him...
What did you say, Martha? why did you hurt him?
we need to Bring Suh Back...but....HOW??????
Walt Coleman and crew on 2 of the first 4 calls......
Blaming Walt Coleman for the Lions' six-plus decades of bungling and poor judgement is like blaming the Titanic's cabin boy for the ship crashing into the iceberg.
It's not a curse, it's purely cheating.
Hahahahahahahaahahahhhhhhhh.......... that down by contact one is the craziest thing I've ever seen and will ever see in the NFL. The refs messed up and then the Lions got a 15 yard penalty out of it. A rule that has since been changed.
Obama really commented on the lions?

@@ASAManifesto I'm not a big political guy, but when you start off your defense of him with "he maintained order..." Please. First off, this is the weakest compliment you can give a president. Not only does he have very little to do with maintaining order (that would primarily be law enforcement, the ones he stupendously, wickedly railed against multiple times), ironically he actually did more to stir up disorder, divisiveness, and conflict than any president ever. You want to know who opened the door to an antagonistic personality like Donald Trump, look no further than Mr Obama. He had a lot to do with the contentiousness and aggressive behavior against Trump that prompted Trump to fire back the way he did. Obama was the one who did away with the status quo of etiquette and traditional protocol, and stepped over these lines continuously. Again, establishing a new precedent for someone like Trump to do the same. No fan of that crap from Trump either, for what it's worth.

Funny thing is there is more that could be added to this and easily a hour long video and not even a diehard Lions fan. Nonetheless I find it interesting since Peyton Manning and Jeff Daniels performed an "exorcism" of the Bobby Layne Curse The Lions have gone 13-3 and honestly do not look like any remnants of what everyone "knew" them for.

For all the money the NFL makes, it’s appalling they don’t have full time refs who train to make calls

You CANT be a Lions fan and think the Lions are treated fairly. No Way. Only a Novice would think this.
That forsett play is fucking wild. i dont know how the refs walked out of that city with their heads attached
Because the stupid rule at the time was that you couldn’t challenge a play that was already going to be reviewed, the result would be a 15 yard penalty and the play would go as called on the field. A stupid rule as shit like the ref completely missing the downed man happens, I as a coach would’ve done the exact same thing. Fortunately that is no longer a rule.
