- Norfolk Southern Train With DPU Shoving The Rear Changes Track & Then Diverts Off CSX Onto NS Track. Train With Platform Caboose Passes Railroad Crossings With Caboose Leading! Train Knocks Down The Signal & Has Rear DPU Locomotive Going Over Overpass. These Trains Are In Hamilton Ohio On The CSX Toledo Sub & The NS New Castle District.
Check out the view of this train coming straight at you! We see a Norfolk Southern mixed freight train with a DPU. The train is crossing from Track 1 over to Track 2. It then diverts off the CSX Toledo Sub and onto its home rails of the Norfolk Southern New Castle District.
The second train is a CSX loaded coal train heading northbound. Look how many cars a single locomotive can pull! That was pretty impressive. Not much coal moves through the Cincinnati area like it used to so this was a nice catch.
The third train is a CSX local switcher. This train has a platform/transfer caboose leading the way. The conductor is riding in the caboose and notifying the engineer of clear crossings and reporting how far he can see that has clear track. I heard him say the track was clear for 20 cars. The purpose of the caboose on this train is a place for the crew member to ride safely instead of riding on the side of a freight car while reversing long distance. Have you ever seen a caboose like this?
Next we see @NijaRailfan saying "There's more!". We also see him get some candy tossed to him by the crew in a Norfolk Southern mixed freight with 3 locomotives. Was that cool or what?!
The 5th train is another Norfolk Southern mixed freight with a DPU locomotive on the rear. Watch the signal change as the locomotive passes it. The train is northbound on the CSX Toledo Sub and is crossing an overpass over High Street in downtown Hamilton. That was a pretty cool shot.
I rode up to Hamilton with Scott, @1960gambit. We hung out with a few railfans and got quite a few good trains. I got enough trains for a second video so don't miss it! This video also features a slide show that came from the video and features the Live Action Pets at the end. Happy New Year!

That was fun watching trains with you and your father!
@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars Hello Fabian! How are you
The second train, coal, ... being pulled by one locomotive, that's impressive power.
Yeah, I was surprised🤯🤯
Morning all jawtooth fans !
Good morning to you
Hello there!
That's an example of power on that coal train - not a ton of cars, but still plenty of weight for that single engine :) A friendly conductor on that NS manifest - all the way out the window - very cool!
Yeah, looked like he threw that boy a ball cap. That is very cool for sure. I'm waiting on JT to get one.
Thanks for watching!
@@ut000bs He threw a bag of gummy candy to the young Railfan
Yes, a GP38-2!! And with a caboose, love seeing that. I'm surprised that coal train only had one locomotive attached to it. Great action today JT, nice work!!
Thanks for watching !
Need fewer appliances and lots more sweet-sounding EMDs.
Good afternoon! From the UK. ❤😊 great banter with your railfans JT!
Hello there!
Cool mixed freight with an even cooler drop deck heavy haul flat car! The coal train was awesome too. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Very cool on that caboose. Probably an old Chessie.
hello Jaw it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool thanks Friends Randy
The trains in this video are very cool
Great grandfathers farm was next to tracks led to Chicago and Rockford, IL and then to Galena . Right across the tracks the Perryville Station was. Two tracks and being only 5 years old my brother and i played close so as to see and hear. Have watched you videos for many years and enjoyed each one, thanks for sharing your experiences.
Fantastic video JT. Love the railfanning action in Hamilton. Cool catch of that Caboose and the clean UP box car.
The 90 hopper cars on the second train are filled to the brim with coal! That's a few tons!
That works out to anywhere from 12,600 to 12,870 tons
gross weight. 90 X 140 or 143 tons per car, since they were
rated for 286,000 lbs. per car.
I don’t have access to the waybill or scale ticket on this train, so have to make an educated guess. Some finely ground coal can weigh less.
Wow, Awesome Crew treating the youngster, Now that made his day and he will remember that for the rest of his life. Thanks Jaw Tooth for catching that action.
Thanks for watching!
Love the echo of the horns! What a cool caboose! Wonder what its original purpose was, and where? SpongeBob engine. Looked like the conductor (at least I assume it was the conductor) was delivering something to a family member or friend. Someone has a sense of humor with the refrigerated boxcars, with the icicles and snow on the top of the cars! One of the best parts of watching a video is the ability to ‘rewind’ to see something over again. Great video, JT, thanks for standing outside in the cold, so that we may enjoy your videos in the warm indoors! Happy New Year of vlogging, from Brownsville, TX.
That platform caboose was real cool I love to have it painted really nice
that would be cool to have it in HO
A coal train!! Awesome!!! Coal keeps the lights on!! Great video!!!!
I am from Columbus, Ohio, and watch trains frequently.
I want to get back up there and film more. I used to film up there until the virus stuff hit. I used to spend 3 days every spring up there watching trains
I use to hike down a rails to trails and I picked up a large piece of coal and brought it home... I still have it on my deck as a conversation subject. years ago i rented a house that i had to burn coal in an octopus furnace... I was raised in a house that had it too.
1960Gambit's video was rather bittersweet with the old Midland train station was burned to the ground on New Years Eve. I watched it earlier.
Please wish Mrs Tooth a Happy Mother's Day!
Hi my friend! Good video, I liked t, greetings from Brasil 🇧🇷
Thank you very much!
The quickest DPU icu call! Railroad tracks ties on centerbeam cars, 🤩 and caboose and gambit!!
Glad to see them use rail for their supplies! They seem to use trucks too often for their
stuff!
Nice footage of NS and CSX diverting at the crossovers, Conductor on NS GE Dash 944CW threw something out of the window to a rail fan, I've had that happen a couple of times, untreated crossties on center beam cars!🛤🚂
Very cool!
Seeing the crossover up close was so cool! So we're the aluminum pigs and the DPU. Thanks 👍 JT! 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Glad you liked it!!
I always start my day with Jawtooth! Especially when my day starts out stressful like today.
Love that!
I've seen platform caboose before one up in Bay city, Michigan on the Huron Ezstern railroad in their yard. Ive never seen them take it out down to Durand. They are owned by Genesee and Wyoming. Same color engines as that Indiana railroad you catch. Orange and black paint.
Great video and nice having fans recognize you while railfanning
Wow! Great catch, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good stuff as always Mr Jawtooth. Appreciate what you do.
Much appreciated
NS and CSX can put on a cool show in Hamilton. Awesome DPUS,a platform caboose, and a crossover. Nice work JT
Thanks!
@@JawTooth your welcome JT.😎
Real friendly engineer in this one!
He was awesome!
Wow
Your new dog
Has grown a lot. In a couple of months
It is amazing how much he grew. Chessie was bigger than him but not anymore
Awesome Jaw Tooth for 2024 watching enjoying too and enjoy the side show too 🚂🚂🚂🚂👍😃😎♥️ Awesome video Jaw Tooth ❤
Great filming! We could see everything that was happening.
Neat! I also saw 1960gambit on this trip!
Another train full of gambit electric car fuel, sweet! Great Hamilton action again, liked it a lot. Thanks JT!
Glad you enjoyed it
Fabulous mixed freight with the DPU! The graffiti free UP box car was looking sharp and I really like the railroad ties. Can you smell them when they go by? I just love walking through the aisles of a lumber yard and smelling the aroma of new wood! And one more question; are the bells on locomotives and crossings electronic or are they physical metal bells? Thanks 🙏 JT! Excellent video today. 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Unfortunately not but sometimes I do smell the lumber
Now days, it’s mostly electronic; there are exceptions. Like if you have an older crossing signal that hasn’t
been replaced or an older locomotive that’s still equipped
with a mechanical bell.
@@JawTooth Thanks 👍 JT!
I like the caboose leading the train that was awesome remote control train . And the other trains with DPU was awesome too was chugging hard WOW nice job JT Live Action WOOO
Thanks for watching!
AFTERNOON JT!!!! That coal train had very little graffiti on it which I thought was very weird. It seems anymore that almost every car has some graffiti on it which is a shame. 🤔☹️👍❤️📹😃
I will have a video up in a couple of days with a train of a hundred cars and no graffiti! all brand new cars
Great work as always 👌👌👍🚂🚃🚆
Many thanks!
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! ✨✨✨👍
One of my favorite places Hamilton great crossover great video thanks Brian and Scott
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you Jawtooth! Happy New Year.
Happy new year!
Everyone loves Jaw Tooth. Another great show. I love trains.
Nice catches JT! Great video!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thank you very much!
There is definitely a lot of train action here in Hamilton Ohio at the
crossings and it was great seeing the caboose because you don't
see them very much anymore. i always like seeing the DPU'S and
how the signals work, this was another great video and with the
great Train Dogs and awesome Norfie making appearances with
the recaps of the exciting trains Thanks again Jaw Tooth.🇺🇲🇺🇲
🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
Thanks for watching my videos Roger!
Really nice freight trains! Thanks so much Brian for sharing!
Great edition JT, 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
That was interesting . And Two DPUs at the end..cool.😊Enjoyed that long coal train. Keep warm Mr JT You got a hand wave and a quick toot from that third train I believe. This is one fantastic train video. Lots of action. Thanks❤😊 I notice to in Folkston as soon as the train passes the signal , it turns back red. Cool.❤ Brandy and Loki was cute together. Thanks so much.❤😊
Thanks 👍
Great video. My great grand father ran the B and O freight station in Hamilton from the 40s thru the 60s.
Very cool!
Question. When CSX or NS use each others lines, do they have to pay for the privilege to do so, or do they just share?
Love it when they switch tracks son! Live action!
Great video JT loved seeing the caboose and the refrigerated box cars were cool to see as well. Stay safe and stay warm. Blessings as you travel to bring us amazing videos of the world of trains 🚂
Thanks 👍
That single GE pulling all those loaded coal cars is impressive. Those old soldiers are still pulling hard for the railroad.Too bad the ST70AH's couldn't last on the CSX.
Great videos, as always.
Happy New Year! Stay safe and warm out there.
Thanks Louis and Happy New Year!
Thanks JawTooth. I alway enjoy seeing trains switch tracks, not sure why though.
Same here!
Awesome crew ! 😊 this so peaceful to hear a train!
It really is!
Thanks JT: Happy New Year!
Happy new year!
Only in Hamilton, OH will you find popular railfans like yourself, and it also looked like that you got a salute from the conductor of that northbound NS train.... I can't believe that they're gonna be getting rid of the Butler Street crossing, and a new hotel being built in the empty parking lot... What a great video to start out 2024 Jaw Tooth 😊
Hey JawTooth! You should definitely try out Elkhart Indiana sometime, there’s around 40-60 trains per day and there’s a depot with a picnic table and platform to go to, Amtrak comes through around 7-10 AM, there’s two of them. And around 30 minutes south there’s the Garrett sub with quite the CSX action, Elkhart also shares trackage rights to many different railroads and there tends to be a lot of foreign power, if you go, please lmk and maybe I’ll stop by! :)
- MR.
Elkhart sees more like 60-80 trains a day. And the only railraods through Elkhart are NS, Grand Elk, Canadian Pacific, and Amtrak. The CSX Garrett Sub is decent 38 daily trains, mostly at night. And the Grand Elk is a joke, they run 4 trains a day they all run night into really early morning. Most foreign power seen in Elkhart are trains coming from BNSF yards in Chicago or UP.
PS. I am not being rude, just making some corrections 😁
I would like to film there. I want to film a lot of places in that part of Indiana
@@JawTooth there’s also Chesterton, sees less trains than Elkhart but still a good spot
@@JawTooth You should also check out Bellevue, MI. Its on the CN Flint Sub, Bellevue typically sees 18-22 trains in a 24 hour period. Or check out Milan, MI. Not quite as busy but theres alot of charm to the town. An old railroad depot, a diamond crossing, an old grain elevator, and a diner across the tracks. A typical day in Milan sees 12-20 trains. its NS and CPKC in Milan. NS owns the line and has trackage rights. CPKC runs about 8 trains a day. This is what a typical weekday in Milan see's (train symbols)

Thanks for watching!
hi jawtooth my name is david
salyers live in oak harbor ohio and i like watching your train videos on youtube
Walthers made a great HO scale model of that eight-axle depressed center flat car a few years ago. May still make it.
Late checkin Brian. Had a VA appt and have been out of town since early AM. Hamilton is one of my favorite spots to see. 👍👍
Mine too! I hope your appt went well also
Awesome video with a dpu working hard but wait there’s more 👍😎🚂🇺🇸👍
Thanks 👍
Great video. A nice mix. Thanks for sharing...
Thank you too!
This video has my favorite. The clack clack clack clack.
Thanks for watching!
Nice to see a train go over a real cross over. Happy New Year. Cheers 🇺🇸🇨🇦
Happy new year!
Another great video! Good to see you and Scott back at it!
More to come! Although I have been posting at least 5 videos a week for a year
According to the info in my Modern freight cars book that depressed centre flat car has a capacity of 685,000 pounds.
Wow, that is a lot of weight!
Loved the crossover view. That was cool!
Thanks! 😁
Happy Newyears 🎉have a great 2024 👍🏻 nice crossover love the video. Robin out . 👍🏻
Thank you 😀
Busy day nice catches JT
Great catches and awesome video
Thank you very much!
Happy new year to you all! Regards from the Netherlands.
Happy New Year!
Thank you for another day of railfanning in Hamilton, Ohio, Jaw Tooth! Transfer cabooses were used in the past by the Chicago Great Western, Chicago & North Western and the New York Central. If you Google images of (railroad name or reporting marks here) and see what comes up. Most of the transfer cabooses look the same. I found the trains in this video interesting to watch. I look forward to your second video from this day of railfanning. Did you have a chance to see if any additional work has been done on the relocated Hamilton Depot? We are coming up on the first anniversary of the movement of the second part of the depot's relocation.
Yes, I noticed that nothing else has been done with the station. Thanks for watching Thomas!
Hamilton always has some train action.
I can't wait to get back there again
I saw a semi pulling a trailer that was like that last car. It will come apart in 3 sections to make it easier to maneuver
Does that chimney on the caboose mean there's a stove for an oven in there, and if so is it still operational and do they use it?
The Caboose (Brake Van to me) is similar to our Queen Mary brake vans.
D-P-U-I-C-U, Short train for a DPU. Last train was long and a hard working DPU pushing. Good day in Hamilton Jaw Tooth.
Morning, wonderful channel, love his videos
Glad you like them!
Happy Hump day JT
Crossover cool!
Thanks for watching!
Whenever I see a line of coal cars, I'm always amazed that there's still coal to be mined.
Hey: I was looking at the houses next to the tracks. I would love to live in one and watch the trains pass. It would be peaceful.
I would love to stay there on weekends to watch trains. Living there, I don't know. They have a drug problem there but the trains are nice to watch
Happy New Year J.T. and railfans
Wow you scored on this one JT👍👍
thanks !
Wow! Second train, each and every toting a full load of coal! Must be heavy! And one loco! 🤔
Sure is!
Thank You Jaw Tooth cool trains!
Glad you like them!
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Glad you like them!
HAPPY NEW YEAR JT!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
That last DPU was working hard.
Man, one great video after another. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
It's a conspiracy. Now I'm sick. Enjoyed the video
Oh no, I hope you didn't get what I got. Get better soon
A Motel that close to the railway seems like a poor idea...😁
There will be changes. The closest crossings will go and there will be less horns.
What did the engineer toss? Train watching Heaven.
Candy for the young Railfan
16:54 half right, they do haul lumber but those are Centerbeam Flatcars.
I am just learning what all the rail cars are named, and their uses. Lots of fun for this 79 year old woman!
