No competition, got to give it to Colm, Alfie, Ramin, and JOJ ❤. Their end note is just so clean and beautiful. I will give a shout out to Killian, though, as he was great when I saw him during the UK Tour.
Will always love Wilkinson. Boe is a VERY close second. There were some other contenders, but I’m really surprised that some clearly didn’t have the range to make the transition to the last note, and it showed! A couple sounded more like screeching than singing.
Killian Donnelly is my favourite, fantastic higher range! Also so glad you didn't include Hugh Jackman, he is a very good stage performer, but he was far from his best in that film, plus it was outside of his vocal range so they had to put it down a whole tone for him.
Awesome. Thanks for compiling this. Kind of an interesting walk down memory lane. My first time seeing this live was on Broadway with Rutherford as Vajean and Lockyer as Marius. Both were phenomenal and I swore Rutherford went a little sharp at the end of Bring him Home because obviously that last note wasn't high enough already. I was able to see Phil Cavill on the West End, he was phenomenal and if I recall had returned to the stage following a serious accident in the years preceding, and later my wife and I saw John Owen-Jones who will forever be my personal favorite in the role. Saw Jon Robyns in Avenue Q on the West End and love him here. Such a talent. Other notes from watching-- Did Gemignani's voice crack? Bowman did not hit the high note...too bad. Boe and Karimloo are on another level-- we could do with a 60 minute album of the two of them just sustaining high notes. And maybe it is different for younger generations, but in my day there was only one video recording of this show and it was when you bootlegged the PBS broadcast of the 10th Anniversary concert at home! It was so powerful and Colm Wilkinson will always be the definitive Val Jean.
Since theres roughly 10 seconds between each if you time it right and do the forward 10 sec skip right at the start of "ONEEEEE" you can make one really really long B4 lol
Alfie Boe is the best no doubt followed by Wilkinson that role was made for him wish he would play the phantom Sierra as Christine and Julian ovenden as rauel her lover pay good money to see that
Who, in their right minds puts colm Wilkinson as the first one? No point listening after that, colm Is Valjean. Alfie boe did a damn fine job on the 25th anniversary, but he wasn't colm lol.
✨✨✨🎙️ It's hardly possible to determine who the best (!!!) is. For this, the conditions must be the same for everyone. One has extremely poor recording quality, then there are stage recordings, but there are also studio recordings that sound much clearer and cleaner. Colm Wilkenson's recording is from the - *10th Anniversary from 1995* can be heard from the little falsetto at the end (I know the 10th Anniversary by heart up and down) Colm Wilkinson's voice is also simply unmistakable. More would be JOJ der also simply incomparable. Of everyone I've known so far, he can hold an extremely high note for so long, an unbelievable talent. But you probably wouldn't hear dad that much here either. Also Peter Lockyer, Jon Robyn's Ramin Karimloo.... They are all really great, but this powerful and versatile voice of Alfie Boe always blows my mind.. Personally, I often miss the sadly deceased * Rob Guest * . He would be rightly honored and celebrated with the "most industrious Phantom otO", but he also played/sang 'Valjean' and I recognize his voice immediately because it also has something that cannot be imitated But despite this impossibility to 'compare anything' here, the video is great and I also like listening to this one: who is the best; to.. Thx 👏🤜🤛🎙️✨✨✨
Alfie Boe and Colm Wilkinson are the only ones who really sind the last note, others are just screaming 🙊 I usually really like Ramin‘s voice but that last note ist just awful.
1 John Owen Jones - my favourite Jean Valjean 2 Colm Wilkinson - best on Bring Him Home (no one can compare) 3 Alfie Boe - my God that man can sing 4 Ramin Karimloo - sounds wonderful but I prefer him as Enjolras. The others were a mixed bag. Several of them sounded flat and a lot of them just sounded like they were straining.
Some thoughts 1. I love the depth and warmth Alfie Boe has to his voice, but I thought the 1 had a tad too much vibrato 2. Ramin Karimloo would’ve been so good if he was in tune 3. I loved John Owen Jones and think he was one of the few where the 1 had enough body. Unpopular opinion but he might be my favorite. Him or Colm of course 4. The 1 needs to be belted. Doing it in falsetto is so anticlimactic and doesn’t match the emotional level of the song at that part
Colm. Followed closely by JOJ. I think Simon Bowman was the weakest. Sounded like he didn't even try to go up for the note. Maybe he was ill the night it was recorded.

No contest. Colm Wilkinson. I heard him do it in person, three times, from his lips to my ears. Still gives me chills knowing I was there.

0:24 definitely used falsetto
i agree
jon robyns is the best by far he just adds so much!
The guy as Enjolras in the 25th Anniversary Live Album.
Alfie. Second Jon Robyns. Heard him live and he was brilliant.

Alternative title: Vajeans having existential crisis

I honestly prefer John Owen-jones
Alfie's better.
Alphie Boe is by far the best
I have always liked Jeff Leyton

Drew Sarich! Drew Sarich! Drew Sarich!
Last night, Jon Robyns. Powerful and moving. Far better than this recording of him.
Peter Lockyer is super underrated in the comments here. He was top 5 easy
are you backwards?
Pretty sure the picture of Phil Cavill is actually Robert Marien.

Drew Sarich was really good
Yes! Finally some who likes Drew Sarich as Valjean!
I’m partial to the original Jon Val John

To me, it's always the ones who belted the note with chest
Ramin, the best
Alfie boe was the best
Colm Wilkinson

Colm will always be Valjean! Best ever!

No, my understanding is that he struggled hitting that high note so adapted it to suit his strengths by bringing it down an octave or two!
colm colm colm
Jon Robyns had best version,,who am I"! Drew can be only Marius. Wilkinson and Owen Jones are awful.
Vikidal Gyula, easily
I understood that reference
If you want to hear real men singing, need to go to broadway. Pop songs nowadays are saturated by boys.
Hugh jackman
Hugh Jackman sang it better.
cap
No cap I wonder why they didn’t include him
