    Ty Stuart!! I watched til the end!! ☺️ I like to learn from your videos because my favorite 'subject' matter to paint, or even see paintings from other artists, is the sky/clouds!!!! ❤️ I love thunderstorms....
    dramatic clouds in a dark sky, but also beautiful soft pastel clouds/sky. When I visited the hotel (El Tovar?) at the Grand Canyon about 14 years ago, I was captivated by a very large painting on the wall in the lobby....it stirred my soul.... I stood there for a long time enjoying it.... unfortunately I didn't look for the artists' name....
    I'm glad I 'stumbled' upon your channel!!! Watching you create those bold, mysterious skies/clouds stirs my soul....I'm learning SO much from you!! I prefer 'less detail' in a painting as well....you are a Great teacher/artist!!!!!
    Thank you for sharing your wisdom & talents!! 💙🖌️🎨☁️🌫️

    Its really fun and inspiring to watch you painting. You seem to be “massaging” the paint into the board and then you seem to magicly “ let the lights float into the paint” - I get a very tactile feeling and it really gives the illusion of vibrational feeling of the beauty of movements of a landscape. 🎶💙🎵🦋

    Genius. Instead of having scores of terrible failed pictures stored in the garage which depress you every time you clap eyes on them, you can instead very quickly explore multiple compositions and techniques on glass, photograph the ones you like on your phone, evaluate them at leisure, then decide which to develop into 'actual' pictures. You get loads of experience, try out lots of ideas very quickly, get much more inspired and motivated and save a fortune on paint, ply and/or canvas. This is brilliant and a real game changer. Thank you.

    Stuart, you could upload a video that was 3 or 4 hours long and I like many others I am sure, would still avidly watch from start to finish. I learn something every time. I may of mentioned before but coming across your channel has inspired me to pick up a paintbrush for the first time in over 30 years and I thank you for that.

    OMGOSH!! Another GREAT Video Stuart!! The glass idea is incredible!! The other tips are equally incredible!! That it’s cheap is nice, but the fact that it takes the fear of ruining another canvas is completely removed, what’s more is that now I have an idea of how the brush strokes work!! The entire video is most remarkable and helpful!! Many Thanks!

    Thanks to your channel I'm finally learning to paint, I really enjoy this style, and I'm trying to emulate it and add my own spin on it. It's very free and engages my imagination, it's extremely satisfying to lay down that first sketch of a landscape and see a painting reveal itself to you, on its own. Thanks, again!

    Hi Stuart, as you asked the question, I watched to the end as I have done with many of your videos. To answer another question, I love your commentary. You have a very encouraging voice and whilst you do this in a very un-lectury way, the more I listen, the more little gems seem to pop out, not at all pushed on us the listener / observer, but there to be savoured by those who would like to.
    A lovely style, thank you.

    Your technique and non-faffing makes you my favorite you-tube artist at the moment, videos so relaxed entertaining and instructive. I was using acrylics to try out painting in your fashion, using a liquid retarder, but went and broke out the oil paints yesterday. A very different game, the flow and ability to wipe off and create the illusion of detail is a different game. I really like the illusion part, painting details for hours is so tedious. You are a master in all senses, but your ability to visualize and create poetry in the landscape is the pot of gold. Even though I somehow don't believe you paint a lot of rainbows ! Thank you.

    Would love to see you glaze many of your paintings as you mentioned needing to finish a stack.
    I love this style of painting but I find it a struggle to see the unity between the blue of the sky and the green of the earth. I believe that glazing would be the way to fix this? Reflecting the the sky onto the earth etc? I could be wrong I’m sure but would definitely love to see how you’d approach a finished unified painting. Thank you as always for your knowledge!

    A pallet is a great idea to practice on Stewart. I oftentimes use what is called butcher paper to practice on. It's great because it's easy to clean. sometimes it is called freezer paper. It's waxy on one side and shiny. And so it's easy to wipe the paint off. 🌹

    Your 'ooh ah. I must do this!' doesn't irritate me at all, because that so well corresponds to my thinking processes when I'm working on a painting. You'd have trouble doing this on a more strongly textured board, eg a canvas board, I think? I suspect it's a technique that would work well on Ampersand panels, though - I think you use MDF, primed with acrylic; so I wonder (you may use an oil ground of course) if you mind leaving paint-free areas in your pictures: e.g. that strip of chalk - is that white oil paint, or unpainted priming?

    • @MarkXHolland
      @MarkXHolland 3 года назад

      I think he uses fairly thin plywood primed with acrylic gesso.

    • @StuartDavies
      @StuartDavies  3 года назад

      I used to use MDF, but no more. I just use 5mm plywood now. The white is the gesso where I haven't added any paint.
