  • 6.5 Creedmoor vs 308 is always a good fight and today we settle the score! In one corner is America's most hated round, the 6.5 Creedmoor. In the other, America's 2nd sweetheart, the 308 Winchester. Which one is more powerful vs wood, concrete, steel, and level 3 body armor?

Due to hurricane Debby and the rain, I was out of work today and stumbled upon your channel.
Two thoughts. First, 6.5 doesn’t have any ballistic advantage until you get out to distances beyond 500 yards. Close range shooting is always gonna go to the heaviest bullet. I’d like to see the same tests done in a pasture at distance to see what happens. Second thought, I was moderately entertained by your video. Underrated channel. Good job.

Truth is, the 6.5 almost never comes close to claimed velocity and performance with the average 22" gun and off the shelf ammo. .308 typically comes a lot closer or has exceeded claimed velocity from a 22" barrel.
A 140 grain SMK in 6.5 is leaving the barrel at mid to high 2,500s and dropping 63.5 inches at 500 yards.
A 168 grain SMK in .308 is leaving the barrel at mid to high 2,600s and dropping 59.8 inches at 500 yards.
The only argument for the 6.5 is less recoil because by the time it passes the .308 they're both dropping like rocks. It's not actually even a good extreme range caliber compared to many alternatives.

The Creed was 100% designed to be a long range bench queen. Apples to oranges

Yeah but if you Load a 308 same grain weight and for long range 308 is a clear winner

I'm not sure why there is still a debate between these two cartridges. The 6.5 CM a was designed as a long range target caliber that people have adopted to also use as a hunting round. The .308 was originally designed to kill living things that was also adopted by hunters.
The 6.5 CM is the better long range target round. Due to the higher power and larger wound channel, the .308 is the better hunting round at ethical hunting distances as the 6.5 CM only starts to have better ballistics at distances beyond what an ethical hunter should attempt.
If you want to do both long range target shooting and hunting, but can only afford one rifle, you should get the 6.5 CM. If you can afford two rifles then get the 6.5 CM for target and .308 for hunting.

At 600m my 6.5 Needmor with 145g Barnes Match Burners was going 1928fps. I was pretty impressed. I was .5 grains over max also

The 308 beats the creedmoor (as far as energy) out to about 450-ish yards. Then the creedmoor starts to catch up. At 500 yards and beyond the creedmoor has more velocity, more energy, and better ballistics than the 308. At 800-900 the 308 starts to die off but the creedmoor stays supersonic past 1000
If you can, move your targets back and re-test.

5.7 gets more hate than the 6.5. I guess the difference is 6.5 hate is warranted 😂

I'd say 6.5 hands down. 300blk gets a bunch of praise for subsonic

Concrete test is inconclusive due to leaving the broken piece on the ground for the 308 / broken piece in the way for the 6.5. Not a fair comparison.

With a lot of truth to that. Beyond reliably cycling in ARs subsonic I have a hard time justifying it.

@@RuggedAdventures I disagree. I think it’s a nice place within 100-150 yard cqb and outshines anything where a pcc could be handy. Can jump from subs to supers at anytime for any situation needed and supers can go out to 200 yards if stretching is needed.

@@vitaminme4203 I am testing a 6.5 grendel over the 300BO. There's no comparison and I would recommend a 7.62 over the 300. I am skipping the 6.5 CM and going to the PRC or 6.8 Western depending on availability

Not sure what's funnier, not knowing the difference between a cinder block and a concrete block or the confidence that you expressed it.
