Omg, I was considering buying the big z fabric scraps instead of the small etsy scraps, and this completely convinced me!! Thank you a TON for filming this video, this was so helpful to makers like me lol. Actually, two of those colors are from re my characters colors that I spend a crap ton on from big z-

They aren’t all perfect, but I have more great pieces than not. I’m sure it varies box-to-box, but it’s well worth it to me.

I live in LA and I plan on going to visit Big Z Fabric's warehouse in person, I'm probably gonna end up riding home on the bus carrying one of those big boxes LOL

Hahaha. I’d love to see that too. Huge box with Fur written on the side. I always wonder what my poor UPS guy thinks when I have like 10 boxes over 6 months show up. He knows we’re a gaggle of furries I’m sure. Haha

I’m planning on getting a big z box this fall for a project to keep me busy, hoping I get some natural colors for a khajiit “cosplay“ (fursuit)

Fingers crossed for ya, I’ve had probably 7 boxes now and most had some browns and greens in them. Black and while have been in every box of mine so far. But it really all depends on what scraps they have atm. If you’re flexible like me, and build projects around what you have, it seems to be a great option. If you cross fingers for specific colors, it’s a gamble for sure!! 😏

Yoooo sharing is caring 🤭 /j also r u ever gonna do another stream again? It’s OK if not, I was just wondering since the first one was so fun. I’d like to do it another sometime and if you ever plan on doing one again could you do it on a weekend preferably Saturday. But again you don’t have to since I know you’re busy all the time so if you ever do do another stream I’d love to join! Just saying ;)

I probably will again sometime in the near future, I’m thinking when I start the real jinx I may. The hard part is that it takes just so long to make a fursuit, that it could be one of those things that could last hours if I wasn’t careful. Haha

Never made a fursuit before but I'm in the planning stages of it - and the more I look into it, the more I'm expecting to spend. If I were to let go of the idea of making the character I spent the last week or s working on a ref sheet for in my spare time and just buy a scrap box from Big Z, could a first-time maker reasonably make a decent suit out of scraps (thinking like some sort of 'abomination' theme), or should I just cough up the money and get exactly what I have envisioned?

That’s a tough one, if you have doubts on your ability to build one well the first time, the scrap boxes are a huge way to get practice without the fear of messing up that expensive piece of carpet you bought. It lessens your worries on making mistakes and if you do, typically have more material to work with to try again at a huge discount. Not all of the fabric is perfect, but I have been more than happy with what I’ve received every time. Typically there are whites and blacks, then assorted colors. For more variation, I normally buy 2 boxes just to see.

@BloodMoonFurs It's definitely really tempting to go the route of a "practice" one before the real one, or heck, just save money and make a new concept out of whatever arrives. But if I do a practice one and then the one I envisioned, that's probably a really big time commitment, and I'm already balancing work and college and a social life.
Sounds like it's a perfectly viable option though, to buy a box and make up a concept based on whatever I get. I'll definitely keep that in mind as an option. Thanks!

I won’t lie, I went through three different colors and patterns on my blood moon ears before I settled on how I wanted to do it; refining the technique of how much seem allowance and how to sew things together, it really can take a bit of practice. I think I lucked out and have a pretty good eye and understanding of how things are built, having an engineering background. I’ve seen a whole lot worse from people that didn’t know what they were doing, and attempted to build one. All that to say, unless you have high confidence in your abilities, it might be worth practicing on some scraps that don’t cost a whole lot, such as these boxes from big Z. You can make some beautiful stuff for inexpensive. A lot of the designs I have planned out, for new characters are coming from some of the beautiful colors I received from big Z

@@BloodMoonFurs Probably a good plan to practice with scraps, then maybe revisit the "main" one later then. Thanks for the advice

@@sparky6757 that’s my personal take with no knowledge of your capabilities, but that said, the experience of watching the suit come together is super cool, and I feel so much more connected to it by having poured my energy into it. Even if you buy a box and make mistakes, you have a lot to just have fun with and then if you feel you have it down, swap to your main character. Idk, I’m totally new to this, just passing my thoughts and experiences. Best of luck and would love to see/hear how things go!!
