Wow, I’ve been absent on here for a bit; no, I thought you did a superb job. I don’t like being in front of people, much less dancing; I have so much respect for anyone who can go out and do this type of thing.

This was my first Toony style and I guessed my way through it, that’s why I made this mock up to test. But what I ended up doing was doing the same ole tape method as you would elsewhere and then used minky on the nose. When it came to furring the final head, I laid real small areas of thin hot glue and slowly rolled it back over the hot glue to hold it. I ended up choosing not to do the pickable nose yet, as the girl I’m making it for didn’t have a preference. But I’d prob just cut it out with a small hole and lay a thin layer of glue on the back of the minky to adhere to the inside of the mask when it pushed it through. But again, I’m a very new maker, and just having fun experimenting with things.

Thank you! It was a lot of pinning fur to the base to see what I liked and what I didn’t. Even from my final design, I changed it as I was cutting pieces out. The design just fell into place and I love it still. Thank you again!!

Yeah, I reused it due to limited audio choices since my subscription ended to an audio supplier, but it had the Halloween feel to it. We’re all doing well and Phoenix just had a weather shift for the better today, and we’re finally projected to be in the 70s for the next couple weeks. It’s perfect.

If you’re looking for a sergal like ours, I may consider it, as they’re becoming pretty straightforward to me after making so many Blood Moons. Absolutely, it was spectacular!

The eyes I printed off in PETG and I actually have not glued the eyes in yet, she hasn’t been to her first con yet but will be debuting at the Painted Desert Fur Con here in Phoenix in January. That said, PETGPLA, and TPU, have all seem to do pretty well with just basic hot glue gun glue. I’m expecting to just use normal hot glue sticks and it to be fine. I personally would never use a PLA base, at least for us here in the desert. It’s way too hot and the Bases will melt here. I’ve heard of people leaving them in the car for 30 minutes in the head collapsing or deforming. I’ve had other projects melt in the desert heat here and now don’t even buy PLA because it’s such trash filament for something you spent so much time and money to make a head, I’d hate for it to melt. I’ve considered TPU ears but I still find Foam ears to be the best and most forgiving.

@@BloodMoonFurs my country is much less hot which is why pla works ( from what I looked into) and thank you for the answer! Haven't bought tpu yet as well it was expensive xD but will try it in the future thank you!

Gonna add that the tpu would me more for my monkey fursuit ears to mimic cartalige as the others would prob work best with foam ears do to their size xD.

I keep remembering things I wanted to say in the first comment so ... I also chose pla for now as a bigginer for tests and tweaks as to not invest on better materials for now once I start selling or making for others I'll invest in better filaments so I'll keep the one you use in mind!

@@portuguesetrash5285I get that, and I could see monkey ears working well with that. I just get tooo nervous with PLA, it’s just so brittle and I hate to put so much work into something to accidentally break it.

For me, the Jinx and Blood Moon builds on PETG was for several reasons, most notably, drop fracture resistance and really, to see how they performed overall. For me, PLA is never an option to build a fursuit headbase on, it’s too brittle and it’s low melting point means that in the Phoenix heat, I could never put it in the car and leave it for even a few mins without major risk of distortion. I see headbases offered all the time with PLA and I feel that the sellers are essentially scamming people, because PLA in general is crap. PETG has been my go-to up to this point because it really resolves the above issues with PLA, but, I did have a bird PETG base slide off a box when I was painting it and it hit the ground and shattered the jaw and left good fractures in the head. This was when I really first experimented and failed with TPU, but really wanted it to work because it is so flexible that it can take a ton of abuse. I’ve swapped to elastic bands for the back of the head from the hard hat head harness from a stability of the headbase standpoint, to keep it from wobbling more than I wanted. I see this, because yes, the elastic band pulling on a very flexible headbase can give you a little bit of distortion, but I tried to balance that out by padding out foam around the face to ensure that when compressed it did not deflect the shape too much. I’ve spent 2 full cons in the past month wearing the TPU head, and have absolutely no intention of going back to PETG, and I’m working right now to start a new TPU print as I am a firm believer that that’s the way to go. I’ve seen people print it with zero external walls and thick random pattern to emulate foam core more, I have not tried that route, because the bases that I work with typically, have more details I want to keep present, and I just don’t see how the furring process would work well with a random foam-like print, that doesn’t have a solid wall to glue to. That’s my limited 9 months of experiences, but I am currently sold on TPU. Never have tried ABS/ASA…

If you’re looking for the dog/wolf head base that I used with jinx, yes and I can find a link to it here shortly. I think it was on Cults 3D for like $15. I did, however, modify the eyes a bit to just give a whole lot larger of an eye hole

@@BloodMoonFurs Thank you so much for this detailed answer. Yeah, about PLA I havn't printed with PLA for years aswell. I guess you are using more of the harder TPUs like 95A? I still don't know I'll build a fursuit head only with foam, as I think that a foam head would give me more freedom in the dimensions and form than a 3d printed base.

@@djg500 Makes sense...I do scale the heads to fit us as needed, and yes, I do believe it's a 95A TPU, so it's rigid, but still "flexible" as in, it won't Snap like hard plastic. I do still usually do some post print add-ons with foam and epoxy sculpt still, so the 3d printed heads can give a good start, and then add on from there. But, it's all on however one want's to make/do theirs. I like the "openness" that a 3d printed head offers, as it keeps the air circulation better imo.

Oh, that’s awesome! I love when people have plushies/props with them, but I just can’t. I’m always too full of cameras; I think I’ll limit them in the future to a GoPro and the main big cam as redundancy at dance comps, fursuit parades…the big events. Otherwise, only the GoPro to open up more freedom.

Well, it was supposed to be the final year for this Conn, however, it looks like someone has decided to step in and take it over as a sort of “new management.” So we may be able to keep another con here in Arizona.

I’m still going through my videos, but unfortunately, the biggest I ran into is my GoPro started overheating and shutting down every couple minutes at about the 45 minute point(maybe sooner), so I don’t know how much I actually have. Plus the angle I’m at really really just kind of sucked. I will post whatever I can, because I really really like to be able to film these events for those who are dancing. Unfortunately, even with two cameras, I struggled hard this time.

I think I have a belt 95% of the golf dance battle video, it shut down on me a couple times in there, but I think I caught it soon enough in between dancers to not lose too much.

Awesome, your suit is amazing and I loved the dance comp. I have some pics from it too. I wanted to film the whole comp, but I had a horrible choice of seating spots by the stage; I think I have your dance from the stage side.

Sorry for delayed response, was at the Arizona Fur Con this weekend. Thank you for the compliment, that’s about what I aim for. I don’t like really being front and center, which is what’s weird about me doing RUclips here and there. Anyways, that’s awesome! I’m sure you’ll do a great job, it’s so satisfying seeing your creation come to life, but I always get the urge to refine to resolve any minor errors I made. Hope you don’t have the same bug. Haha

I was pretty impressed overall, but definitely saw a ton of the crew who were integral with PDFC (Painted Desert Fur Con) here in phoenix 🐦‍🔥 involved and I’m sure tons of other experienced individuals. It definitely showed.
