Hey Cody Watching this like 3 years later. Just wanted to thank you for all of your Starfinder Videos from back then. My friends and I got into the game and we have been having a blast with it and you've helped me and my fellow players.

I didn't use your website as I just found you like literally tonight and I literally bought them yesterday but luckily the three books that I bought I found cheaper through eBay but not really that much cheaper I think one of them was $4 cheaper than what was posted so not really much of a difference. As for the other books that I didn't get because of the price I do see they're much cheaper on your site that you posted for the miniatures. So thank you for that and I just want to say thank you for these videos because the group that I have going to be playing in my campaign I'm sending him these videos to watch and to get an idea before the book gets here and having them buried up as much as they can before I can get it because I have to read up on it and move forward. good video but you made a small mistake, at 6:54 +, you dont add the total pilot skill/ranks to AC you only add his ranks, at level 1 a pilots rank is 1 so your AC should only be 12 total 10 + MK1 (+1) + pilot rank 1, if you want to see an example go to page 311 "Kevolari Venture" which is the same type of ship you started with, the ship uses a MK3 (+3 AC), the pilots total skill is 12 but its AC is not 25, the total AC is 14 b/c of its rank 1 from being level 1 pilot, 10 + MK3 (+3) + pilots rank 1, bonus or total to the pilot skill is not added to its AC just the rank
I was using a character with 8 piloting ranks. I understand it is a level 1 ship. The Pilot was loosely based of of my character from the Starfinder Premiere, Tweak.

You definitely want to make sure to note the weapons range increments. Yes, I know it's in the starship weapons chart in the build section, but having to flip a book back and forth looking for the range increments is a pain in the butt.

Pilot Rank is the amount of Skill Points you have in that. An Operative has Pilot as a class skill, so when they put the first skill point into it, instead of it being a +1 it is a +3. And if they have an 18 for Dex, that adds 4 to it, making it a +7. I believe in the video the frame gives them a +1 to Piloting as well to make it a total of +7.
the +3 is in addition to the 1 I think, I believe its 1 rank(class skill) gives u a total of +4 (the rank and the +3 for a total of 4) and that would add up to 8 what he has in the video, but I am assuming that its the total + for the pilot skill.
You’re right. He messed up on that part. It’s the number of ranks you put into it. Not the collective piloting bonus. So at level one you could only have a +1 to your AC as you can only put 1 rank into piloting

I want an opinion on a Medic theme I made for one of my players! MEDIC THEME KNOWLEDGE (1ST) You are an expert in both particular fields of study, and your passion for the subject shows. In Life Science, you can specialize in bioengineering, biology, botany, ecology, genetics, xenobiology, zoology, or another field of biological science. In Physical Science, you can specialize in astronomy, chemistry, climatology, geography, geology, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or another field of physical science. The DC of skill checks to recall knowledge about your specialty is reduced by 5. Your chosen skill is a class skill for you, though if it is a class skill from the class you take at 1st level, you instead gain a + 1 bonus to checks with your chosen skill. In addition, you gain an ability adjustment of+ 1 to Intelligence at character creation. QUlCK PIDGIN (6TH) If you don't share a language with creatures you encounter, you and the creatures can spend 10 minutes attempting to converse (if they are willing), after which you attempt a DC 25 Culture check. If you succeed, you formulate a simple pidgin language that allows basic communication. You can use the pidgin language with those specific creatures only, but you gain a +2 bonus to Culture checks to create a pidgin language with similar creatures that speak the same language. MEDICINE BOON [12TH] Your knowledge grants you mystic power. Choose one 1st- level mystic spell with some connection to your deity's portfolio (subject to the GM's approval). If you have levels in the mystic class, you gain 1 additional 1st- level spell per day and add the chosen spell to your list of mystic spells known. Otherwise, you can use the chosen spell once per day as a spell-like ability. MASTER MEDIC [18TH] Your healing accomplishments invigorate you, giving you renewed purpose and zeal. Up to twice per day, when you heal an ally significantly in combat you recover 1 Resolve Point.

So i'm trying to do some research before i purchase but how do you do the rules for Reentry in the atmosphere (IE: crashing). I can just guarantee my players would go into combat just above the atmosphere and fall back to the planet if they lose there engines and dont repair in time
I know I'm being a nitpicker here, but has anybody else ever looked at the starship scale chart and come to the conclusion that the larger the ship class is, the more and more that the weight and expansion bay capacities seem out of sync? For instance, at almost 3 miles long (15,000 feet long), a colossal starship only carrying 40 fighters and weighing only 8,000 tons seems bizarre (in comparison, a modern aircraft carrier [specifically the Nimitz class] can weigh over 90,000 tons, can carry over 80 aircraft, and is only slightly over 1,000 feet long). Thus while Tiny ships seem right on target, and small ships might be only little light, it almost seems a colossal ship's low weight to high volume ratio would result in a density would be almost as low as aerogel. Overall the ship rules are otherwise great, but they need to both shrink the ships size down and make them heavier to make them more realistic.
My question is for calculating AC is it pilot RANKS or total pilot skill? the example used in the video is 8 in the pilot ranks box, so is that a lvl 8 character with 8 ranks in pilot or lvl 1 character with 1 rank + guessing 4 dex mod + 3 class training bonus?
It's RANKS not total. So at level 1 you could only have 1 rank in Piloting. I used a character loosely based off of Tweak, my character from the Starfinder Premiere. I see it's causing a few points of confusion for people, but it is indeed ranks.
You're totally right. What I said in the video is still completely accurate. I just went with an arbitrary # of ranks and it threw a few people off. Wasn't intentional lol... #BlondeMoment
Okay, so I have an odd one. I have a game coming up that has 7 players total, but may not have all members attend every game. This is messing with my choice of frame for their ship. The LF, Ex and Tr all have max crew of 6, too small. BUT, the next size up (Dest) has a min crew of 6, too small if there is spotty attendance. Cutting players or requiring attendance are not options for RL reasons. My thought was to give the team an interceptor in a customized 1 expansion slot hanger bay, which they could deploy if everyone attends. Or should I fudge the rules on the Dest so it can be piloted if not everyone attends? Thoughts or feedback from other GMs looking to run SF appreciated.
I would maybe just build a Med size ship with 6 max crew and than give them an expansion bay with crew quarters. But I have been thinking of creating an expansion bay that could be used as a special dock for one tiny/small ship. ( the rules state u can only put a hanger on a large ship size and up) I was thinking that the drawback to having this dock (basically the fighter is just strapped to the side of the ship) is that the piloting rolls to the main ship while the 2 ships are connected would be -2, and the speed would be 1 step down.

Created an enemy pirate ship crewed by Space Goblins called the BIGG HORSS EETUR. Big, ugly, slow mofo, packed w/ weapons that could screw up your shields & engines. Two shuttles w/mining lasers and bench seating, for carrying boarding parties. May have gone overboard; they keep winning their fights, which is kinda cool as a GM, but frustrating as a player.
ow does your lvl 1 pilot have 8 ranks? Are you adding in Insight bonuses and stuff to the ranks? Cause i thought you could only have as many ranks as you had levels?
shain edge because laziness. No, that's the answer. They made a couple level 8 characters for a playtest, and rather than making new characters or just saying "this is a level 1 ship, So we're gonna put in 1 rank", he did this

passion for the subject shows.
QUlCK PIDGIN (6TH)
If you don't share a language with creatures you encounter, you
and the creatures can spend 10 minutes attempting to converse (if
they are willing), after which you attempt a DC 25 Culture check.
If you succeed, you formulate a simple pidgin language that
allows basic communication. You can use the pidgin language
with those specific creatures only, but you gain a +2 bonus to
Culture checks to create a pidgin language with similar
creatures that speak the same language.
MEDICINE BOON [12TH]
Your knowledge grants you mystic power. Choose one 1st-
level mystic spell with some connection to your deity's
portfolio (subject to the GM's approval). If you have
levels in the mystic class, you gain 1 additional 1st-
level spell per day and add the chosen spell to your
list of mystic spells known. Otherwise, you can use the
chosen spell once per day as a spell-like ability.
MASTER MEDIC [18TH]
Your healing accomplishments invigorate you, giving you
renewed purpose and zeal. Up to twice per day, when you
heal an ally significantly in combat you
recover 1 Resolve Point.
Hey will you do more videos on starships and maybe some covering the themes and how they can be added to the classes? Iv enjoyed your coverage but im still looking for more
Hope it's not too late to be useful but dice versa has a great campaign playthrough with some good ship combat in it here. ruclips.net/p/PLbnPh-oTUwD5cVVQSP5Gkb_KOmk3khm-I&si=Gzc0z-ivIiAx5lnB

Is that video tutorial for running starship combat still on the way? 😊
Legacy races overview please .. I know the new races are more popular but interested regardless and the Starfinder core rulebook is not available for me locally .. I'd have to order online or make a trip to the city .. I'm almost sold .. Your Starfinder vids are the most concise I've found .. Love your channel :)
My Rulebook says a Coilgun costs 10 BP and a HEML another 14, adding up to 24, not 10 total for weapons. Have they changed that or did you make a mistake here?
Hey bud! Loving the videos, though they're a few years old. I saw that at the beginning of this video you said you'd be releasing a video on ship combat....yet I can't seem to find it. Have you not done so?
Hope it's not too late to be useful but dice versa has a great campaign playthrough with some good ship combat in it here.

are the pilot ranks determined by ranks spent or total bonus from ability and misc mods as well?
Dude! Thanks for this!
How do we get npc crew or deal with a party that doesn't want to pilot and / captain?
How many build points for the Galactica?
*Casually makes a Sovereign Class Reaper*
Is it possible for you to sometime cover how multiclassing works in starfinder?
you still need to make
how starship combat works.
you said you would.
I see you already have a ton of comments about it.
time to get to it.
I agree. This is like only having half a walk through.
"I'm going to assume you're making a starship for a level 1 party"
"our pilot has 8 ranks in piloting"
lol
I'd love to see how to make this work in Roll20. It's so confusing.
Are we ever going to get a starship combat video?
My question is for calculating AC is it pilot RANKS or total pilot skill? the example used in the video is 8 in the pilot ranks box, so is that a lvl 8 character with 8 ranks in pilot or lvl 1 character with 1 rank + guessing 4 dex mod + 3 class training bonus?
It's RANKS not total. So at level 1 you could only have 1 rank in Piloting. I used a character loosely based off of Tweak, my character from the Starfinder Premiere. I see it's causing a few points of confusion for people, but it is indeed ranks.
Yeah a bit confusing, because you said a level 1 crew, but tweak is level 8
You could always use the AI computer as a crew member in "dire" situations in case someone doesn't show
Where is the 2nd Video?

Created an enemy pirate ship crewed by Space Goblins called the BIGG HORSS EETUR. Big, ugly, slow mofo, packed w/ weapons that could screw up your shields & engines. Two shuttles w/mining lasers and bench seating, for carrying boarding parties. May have gone overboard; they keep winning their fights, which is kinda cool as a GM, but frustrating as a player.
Can't find your ship combat video :(
hey hey brother! thank u very much.
ow does your lvl 1 pilot have 8 ranks? Are you adding in Insight bonuses and stuff to the ranks? Cause i thought you could only have as many ranks as you had levels?
he responded earlier; it's a L8 pilot from their playthrough video.
If that is so, then why is he building a Tier 1 ship for a 8th level party?
shain edge because laziness.
No, that's the answer. They made a couple level 8 characters for a playtest, and rather than making new characters or just saying "this is a level 1 ship, So we're gonna put in 1 rank", he did this
How does the pilot have 8 ranks in piloting? Are they not part of the lvl 1 party?
could you also go over Hyperlanes its a space opera version of d@d like starfinder is to pathfinder. not that anyone will read this comment anyway. hope you do
Where can i find the second part?
anyone?
@@victordevillers3899 Beuller?

But don't Drift Engines have a PCU minimum of 75 wouldn't we be going over the PCU limit

Where is starshiip cooombaaat??
Building a Level 1 ship puts a level 8 pilot in it....sure
It's been a few months. Is that second video still coming?
