    Great job man! One of the most expensive things on a boat is the septic system and you knocked it out for about $100.00.

    Wow! $1000 - $5000 for a toilet? And I whine about spending $10 for a box of cat litter. Anyhow, this is a great build I love how you get the most from a heat gun. I always learn so much from your videos. Thanks for not only sharing but instructing and inspiring.

    I think this can be altered a little to use vermiculture (worms) to break down the solids and be installed in my offgrid cabin. A pound of red wigglers will eat a pound of solids a day, so putting, say, 3 pounds of worms in the bucket (with the bucket altered to make a good worm home) and by the time it's necessary to empty the bucket, it'll be worm castings instead of poo. Thanks so much for this!

    I love your attention to detail! It is time consuming, but the results are a good build with minimum maintenance. I have plans for a small houseboat, and it calls for the toilet to be accessible from the exterior with a natural vent, thus eliminating any fans/ odors to the cabin. Your unit looks great; much better to maintain than any commercial ones that I’ve seen.

    You’re going to be surprised. ‘Built’ mine 4 years ago, outside for a tiny house. I find it’s cleaner and much less smelly than regular toilets. No condensation makes a huge difference. Mine is a tote with a scrap wood lid and shiny new seat. You’re right, it’s not compost coming out but it’s not at all gross. Completely dry and if you don’t look hard it just seems like peat moss with bits of paper. I used paper bags so I didn’t have to remove plastic from the compost, but getting the right bag used to be hard, oversized garden bags worked for me.

    Thank you so much for sharing your houseboat build process. I am planning exactly to do what you have been doing. I have been puzzling about how to build a composting toilet with elegance and style after using the cassette one on my campervan.
    Really appreciate all your builds. They are well thought out, and gracefully crafted right down into small details.
    Thanks a million.

    Wow. Looks great. I hope you have enough shoulder room given the location of the medium holder. But I imagine you have taken that into account. I’m a bit in the dark as to where the odors vent to. I guess I expected there to be a vent to the outside rather than letting those odors be inside.

    • @adrianwoodworm
      @adrianwoodworm  2 года назад +1

      Yes, it is just about enough room for the shoulder, I did sit on it to make sure I don't have to lean in one direction. The vent sucks the air right from the bucket to the outside. There is a small section at the stern that is covered by an overhang, but otherwise open.

    Another great video I didnt use a timer n mine just a switch on the helm so the fan can run all the time of course we have no experience with it yet as we have been in the marina

    • @adrianwoodworm
      @adrianwoodworm  2 года назад +2

      Thank you! I am sure a switch at the helm works just as good! I just did the timer because a friend of mine has years of experience with this kind of toilet and says it doesn't need to be on all the time. That way I save some battery power(even though those kind of fans consume very little to be honest...)

    • @adrianwoodworm
      @adrianwoodworm  2 года назад

      @@sawsolutionsinc me neither, I just trust my friend in this case. In the worst scenario I can replace the timer switch with an on/off switch and let it run continuously if needed. I guess time will tell us what works. In my case that is still far away😆

    FYI, some years ago the USAF was ridiculed and awarded the Golden Fleece Award for a toilet seat on the B1B bomber costing some $800 USD (if my memory serves me right). It sat atop a 5-gallon pail. Of course it had to maintain the integrity of the bucket's contents at Mach 1.25 ... inverted, so there's that.

    • @adrianwoodworm
      @adrianwoodworm  2 года назад +1

    also WAYYYYYYY easier to clean than those $1000 composting toilets that have a bunch of ribs and ridges and parts and small openings and access areas that make it super hard to clean when you want to empty the container. it was a huge waste of money that i thought would be nice because i did the two bucket method before and wanted one with the urine diverter... but it doesn't work as well and is messy and hard to clean and just a huge pain in the ass. way smarter route here.

  • @ourtinyhouseboat
    @ourtinyhouseboat 2 года назад

    very nice. I have my urine diverter leading outside the boat and the small fan runs all the time. However we have yet to use it. I'm now in the process of making some changes before launching this summer - dealing with some water penetration between the hull and deck and making more access to the bilge.

    • @adrianwoodworm
      @adrianwoodworm  2 года назад

      Thanks! I actually really like your toilet design as well, I almost bought the same diverting kit, it seems to be a good deal. Good luck on your improvements! I hope you get a chance for an update video on some point, I really enjoyed and learned from your previous videos!

    You could use an under the waterline petcock to feed Lake/river water to a marine toilet thus not wasting your fresh water to flush. However it would mean that you'd have to have a holding tank and pump it out when full. Some boats use a 25 gallon & other's a 40 gallon holding tank. I'd be surprised if you could not find room for a 25 gallon holding tank. Should last a couple about a week without emptying. I've had several boats & also RV's found this to be the most acceptable to other solutions. I'll be interested to see how well your solution works. However, I don't think I'd care for the "medium" being at nose level when sitting... Think I'd want it below decks... Just mtcw. Great series.

    • @adrianwoodworm
      @adrianwoodworm  2 года назад

      Thanks! As mentioned, there are many solutions, too many to mention them all and it all depends on what your priorities are. I thought about having the medium on the ground level but decided against it because the space between wall and toilet was a bit narrow and I don't want to bend down in this tight space. Also, it is not in the way when I sit on the throne even though it might look like that, so it works for me.

      @@TinCanCampers that is exactly what a friend of mine does at his off grid house. I will be limited in space and I will move my location to often, otherwise that's what I would go for.

    how would you know when the urine jug is getting full, could you not route the urine overboard?

    • @adrianwoodworm
      @adrianwoodworm  8 месяцев назад +1

      Good question. The container is see-through enough when you shine a light on it, and you would have to check it every once in a while. I didn't want to route it overboard because I plan on using the boat on land as often as on water. In my mind, this is more of a "floating RV trailer" than an actual boat. Just letting it go over board would make for a messy campsite. Otherwise, your suggestion would be the better solution.
