Pagani Design PD-1688 on Pagani Design Factory Store on AliExpress: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002664133111.html On Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B098QKJR7G?ref=myi_title_dp
Oh no, yet another great looking homage watch from Pagani Design. I can't just keep buying all these tempting lookie-likeys whenever I see them. My watch box (and the table it's on) overfloweth. If the sign of a good review is to make people want one, then this is definitely a good review.
I can't believe the quality you can get at this price point. It's cheaper than a decent g-shock, heck it's cheaper than the Seiko diver bracelet I recently purchased, and that didn't even come with screw adjustment!
Your reviews are always top notch! 👍 Regarding the watch, two things “disappointed” me a little: the hands look way nicer in the product pictures on Amazon than in reality/your video. In the pictures they looked rather matt blue not so metal blue’ish. Furthermore I would’ve preferred a white watch face. All in all it’s just an homage watch and at this price point (the real Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra’s retail price is €6000… at least €5200 considering a discount most jewelers offer) I agree with you and the others, this is a super nice watch.
I own some very nice (expensive) watches but I have ordered one of these just to see for myself. While I was at it I ordered the "speed master and sea master" because I got a bit carried away as they're so cheap. If I don't like them I'll just stick them in a drawer. I have high hopes though as I'm definitely not a watch snob.
Their rotating bezels usually give play, bracelets can have idiosyncrasies and I had to open the caseback of one, once, to dab off dirty looking oil spots from the rotor and movement with some Rodico putty. They're using the highest quality materials at the price point (ceramic, sapphire, Seiko movements, etc) but qc corners are cut to produce watches with these specs, at this price point, I feel (personally). It can be a lottery. Then again, a non-diver won't have a bezel action problem and they may be improving their bracelet production; going by this review. They have some new Seamaster SM300 and Planet Ocean homages, both with automatic and, cheaper, Seiko VK63 mechaquartz chronograph movements, which look very tempting. EDIT: Also be aware that, although they offer their watches in various colours, they ignore your choice and send you whatever colour they feel like, so don't order through their own official store, even if it involves spending a few pennies more. Basically, they are twats.
Another great review. I have to say, of all the Pagani Design watches I have seen presented, both on your channel and others, this is one which really catches my eye. No obvious flaws with the bracelet on this particular Omega homage either. Lovely looking piece. This is the next watch I'll be trying (always worth a punt for around 95 quid!) and the only thing I'll alter are those polished mid-links. I'll be brushing them out. Thanks again!
Just ordered this one in white/silver for $75..first pagani, looks nice will tell you when i have it.....followed your advise a few months ago and bought the steeldive submariner homage, very impressed with it, cannot fault it....will see what the PD 1688 is made of!
Zudem sieht man ja das was Du erklärst bestens. LG Richard aus Salzburg (Austria)
Love the look of this watch, do you think you could swap the hands for some with brighter lume? some of the 3P parts shops have some VERY good lume on their hands.
Thank you for review, I think it's the only one on this color. Most photos are from product page, so it's not easy to judge the actual "blueness" of hands and indices. Would you say it's more bright blue or more neutral looking in person in normal daylight? I hear a lot of criticism about the bracelet, but I don't care about it, as long as the watch head is good quality and I can use my NATO's.
Excellent review as always John. I am very impressed with the quality of the case and bracelet finishing. Pagani Design Have done an excellent job with their Aqua Terra Homage. The dial looks great as well. I think Pagani Design have a winner on their hands. Regards
Thanks for your excellent review! You mentioned the hour and minute hands and hour markers are blued, vs painted. They do seem to have an iridescent quality. Do you recall how you learned those elements are blued? I cannot find anything from Pagani stating they blued.
@@watchreviews4kThanks! They look great! I ordered a replacement for mine, as the 6 o’clock marker was crooked. I hope the replacement is straight so that I may keep and enjoy the watch. It is dazzling.
Great review, you had me salivating over this watch! I would be all over it if not for the hidden clasp... it looks gorgeous but offers no micro-adjustment (I like to wear my watches semi-tight on the wrist). Would it be possible to fit an after-market glide lock clasp to this? If so, do you have any recommendations? Thanks again 4K!
A Glidelock clasp won't fit as they use screw pins to fit an Oyster bracelet. See link below to a PD-1667 (Seamaster style) bracelet, which should fit as has a similar Omega lug shape to the case as this PD-1688. I was reading reviews on aliexpress and was wondering if/when you would do a review. Did you have any trouble with the quality of the pins of the bracelet? Some buyers said they were made really cheap, even failing. Thanks for the great review!
Really enjoy your reviews of this and the other watches. No pulling punches when it comes to overall value (or lack thereof) and opinion of of some of the industry giants. The value proposition of some of these microbrands is terrific, which you are quick to point out, as well as the room for improvement like the lumens. Hats off.
Once again, I’m eyeing another PD watch, John and specifically came looking hoping you’d review this one. I acknowledge no half links or micro adjust, what would be the smallest you could resize the bracelet to, would you know ? Thank you. 😀
@@watchreviews4k Thank you, John, it’s a pass for me unfortunately on the bracelet. Considering the leather strap option to swap out to a rubber. Talking of swapping out straps, my other consideration is the PD 1701 purchasing on the nylon/leather QR strap which looks nice. However if I wanted to swap to a fixed spring bar type strap I need spring bars. Where would you purchase those and what size would be required, 20mm x 1.8mm ? Thank you.
You can reuse the spring bars from the bracelet. But if you want spares see link below. 20mm x 1.5mm are suitable. Regards, #WR4K www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DHPM6GG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@@celtictracy Take a look at the Tudor BB36 homage by Pagani Design. I believe it is the PD-1716. Smaller case diameter at 36.5 mm, could be perfect for a woman's wrist. I'm considering that one for myself! The blue dial (not the Tiffany), which is my favorite of all colorways, appears to be one of the hardest to come by since it is a model that came a few years ago, but it's still a fantastic piece!
At this price point I would just go at it with a Scotchbright pad. I even took one to the clasp of my Longines (as per a RUclips tip tutorial) and it came out a treat. Albeit, that clasp already had brushed effect but I do recall another RUclipsr achieving a good brushed effect on another watch bracelet that had, previously, polished mid-links.
