- The video above illustrates how to repair a fractured anterior (front) tooth with a dental filling material. Initially, the dentist needs to be able to remove any unsupported enamel & incorporate a bevel which will help camouflage the dental filling material. This incorporates minimal preparation & will allow for a better bonding mechanism. After, a teflon tape is placed on the adjacent tooth to prevent any of our etching/bonding solution from attaching to the adjacent tooth. After washing & drying the etchant, the dentist will brush a bonding material over the prepared site & light cure. If a wax-up was made prior to the procedure, we are able to make a stent that can help build the lingual wall of the tooth. This helps the dentist achieve a predictable means of designing a filling that harmonizes with the adjacent teeth. Composite is then added & cured in incremental steps to avoid resin shrinkage. Final polishing can be achieved with a series of polishing discs.
I hope this video helps patients visualize the procedure & gives dentists some tips on how to achieve a more predictable filling. The dental filling was done on a typodont (fake teeth); therefore, the composite filling stands out. In a patient case, we would utilize various composite to blend the filling with the natural teeth.

I’m 9- but I chipped my front tooth when I was 8 it came of again and again but some can give you an injection if they give you numbing cream the injection doesn’t hurt that much,then they wait for a couple of the minutes for the injection to work and then when they fix it it doesn’t hurt only the cream stuff to clean it at the very start hurts a bit.
Does the filling stuff start to turn yellow after a little bit?

For anyone who is sad about a chipped tooth, dont worry!! i chipped my tooth literally right before the covid shut down and wasn't able to go to the dentist for almost 2 years because of that!!! I just got this procedure done today and it took about 30min, was numbed and didnt feel a thing. I am so happy and grateful to have my tooth finally fixed.

I have a payment plan and pay so much a year depending on what band you are in ie if your on benefits.a student.full/ part time employment you will have to ask your dentist as it varies hope this helps xx

The process is very easy and prices vary from state to state. My daughter chipped her tooth when she was 7 and I had it bonded. It needed a bit of maintenance throughout the years but that was no big deal. She's 33 now and the bonding on her tooth fell out during the pandemic so she had to wait until it was safe to visit a dentist. She just had it done and it was $449 but we're in NYC. It looks great.

That’s funny because the tooth that is being repaired in this video is the same tooth and the same spot where my tooth chipped. I never had any of my teeth chip before so I was curious how it’s fixed. I am a little nervous about it. I hope that insurance covers a chipped tooth! Nice video!

I have a small chip, i had braces so it really disappoints me that this happened. I can’t afford a dentist now but I hope that maybe in a few months I can get it fixed. And hopefully it’s not expensive

The other night, I was eating candy, (Valentine’s day candy hearts to be exact). And while I was eating one, I felt something in my mouth so I took it out… It was a piece of my tooth that broke from the candy. It didn’t hurt and I didn’t feel it but it still kind of scared me. The next day, I was sitting on the couch doing absolutely nothing. I wasn’t eating anything or moving my mouth at all. Another piece of tooth came out. I made an appointment at the dentist, and was pretty terrified because they told me my insurance would probably only cover a removal, not a filling. So I was sitting in the chair mentally freaking out waiting for him to come pull my tooth. I heard him talking to the receptionist, and the receptionist said “I don’t think her insurance covers fillings…” But she paused and then said “Actually nevermind, go ahead”. Those were the best words I’ve heard in my life let me tell you!

It is good, a tooth that is chipped; the nerve inside can go dead and your tooth will start to turn black and rot. Sometimes it happens slow, other times it can come later in life. Best to get it fixed because it doesn’t even hurt and takes less than an hour. You don’t even need good insurance because I don’t, and I’ve had four teeth fixed in the past 10 years

I recently got a chipped mollar from eating hamburger helper and breaking a part of it off on a bone fragment which was in the ground beef fortunately for me it didn't really hurt but I think that was mainly because the tooth was already previously filled in the center several years back however if I were to wind up breaking an unfilled tooth I think that it probably would have hurt like an S.O.B so therefore I think that I was actually kind of lucky in that sense.

I have a question, what are the limitations to this? Any foods you can't eat? How gentle do you need to be when flossing? How long does this usually last?
I got mine filled in over 4 years ago, and it's the same as ever. My dentist didn't tell me to avoid any certain food and so I have not been cautious of what I eat. Brushing my teeth as hard as before. It's basically the same as a normal tooth, I forget I chipped it 99.9% of the time as it doesn't feel any different.
I don't know if my dentist used the same method, but I don't think that there's anything to worry about. Ask your dentist if you have any worries

@@drixchel0808 I believe it is called "DENTAL BONDING". I've had it done a couple of times on chipped teeth and it works great. Just make sure you have a dentist who is experienced and knows what they are doing.

Will do this in a month. Was swimming and went so deep under water that I brushed my face against the pool tiles and my front teeth cracked. I feel so embarrassed because those are my best set of teeth. Im relieved now
For those worried - don’t be. Panic is normal, but if it helps at all, I chipped my tooth with a dumbbell and had to go to school with a chipped tooth 😂 The procedure was totally chill, no pain whatsoever, you just gotta hope your dentist is goos
I chipped my first bottom left molar, while eating a piece of gristly steak. Surprisingly there's no pain or sensitivity, so I guess the root is fine. If the root was cracked, I'm sure I would've known immediately. Luckily I'm able to chew fine without pain, I'm just more careful. I have a dentist appointment this week, so I hope it's nothing major...

It depends on how big the fracture is. If it’s small then we can predictably place a small filling on the tooth. If it’s large then we can either place a veneer or crown on the tooth! Hope that helps!

The restaurant i work at is old asf and the equipment we use is super old too .The paper towel dispenser is basically broke and You have to pull hard to open it, I pulled hard and didn’t expect it to open first try so hit broke off hit me in the mouth and broke my tooth. I recently had one of my molar taken out and it seems like during the process it chipped the molar right next to the one being extracted. It hard to tell yet being my gums haven’t fully healed but the chip looks to be on bottom side of the molar. Would this be a filling?
If it is a small chip than a filling should be enough! If the tooth is broken in a BIG way than a crown would be recommended!

i had this kind of repair done 2 times same tooth 2 different dentist the repair failed both times inside a year
my 3rd dentist reamended a crown and I'm happy with it looks and feels like my real tooth seam under the gums and dentist told me i may have to have the other one done in the near future and for $700 a tooth i thought it was a good deal to get the long term relief now im 5 years into the crown and its still solid

@@nicollyandrade-zg1cq yea small composite fillings are good but bigger ones will fail it just not as strong as your tooth if you get no relief and it always hurts talk to your dentist about other options

i got a chipped tooth once, there were these karate boards in a goodwill that were really hard to break and my dad wanted to see if he could break them, so i held it up for him and the force of the kick was so strong that the board flew out of my hands towards my face and hit my tooth

I dont think so and if there is its probaly really expensive. I'm on the same boat right now. Many people say they break off if 2 months and it takes part of the original tooth with it. I think lumineers is the best option in my opinion. That's what I'm going to get you can get a single one or 2 or as many as you like. What I need to know is if can get one the color or my tooth for I wont have a single white looking tooth :v

alaia sadie lena the composite resin filling does not whiten when you undergo the whitening process...so, when you start whitening your teeth with bleaching strips, your natural teeth will get more white while the filling remains the same color. However, you can replace the filling for a whiter color after the bleaching process is complete! I hope that make sense! Thanks for the comment!

JJ H composite resin fillings are meant to serve as a permanent solution for fixing front tooth fractures. However, these fillings rely on the strength of the bonding to the tooth to be stable in your mouth for a long time. Thus, it is important to be cautious about biting into hard food items for risk of it fracturing...I tell my patient to be cautious about biting into non compressible foods so that we can have a successful outcome! Exactly! Chomping into an apple with your front central incisors (front two teeth) can definitely place undesirable forces on the restoration which can lead to a fracture. The idea is to be conscientious about the restoration & to avoid habits (nail biting, ice chewing, hard food) that can ultimately result in a fracture. Hope that helps!

Question or two lol.... I chipped my front tooth and basically the bottom chipped off not to bad but the back as well, a lil closer to my gums. My tooth doesn't hurt but it does get uncomfortable all day everyday and I hate it. Such a good question. Depends on a variety of factors including how well you maintain your fillings
im pretty sure you can get a new filling when it breaks again or falls out but i think they last for a couple of years or even a decade depending on how you take care of it ig
