I lost $60,000 dollars in 1985, when a hailstorm destroyed my Canola crop. No subsidies for that. Crop insurance only covers your input costs, not what you may have harvested. 3 generations of the same family have been collecting welfare/food stamps/low cost housing in America, what has that cost the American taxpayers?

2024 Ag budget shows 71% going to Food stamps, WIC, etc. Real Ag dollars are slightly over a quarter of the budget!
That’s right more food stamp money than actual money to farmers. But their wouldn’t b a program without the food assistance. That was BobDole that got that through!

I think you’re spot on about taxes. Every time someone says, “their fair share”, I cringe. Taxes aren’t fair. Percentage based taxes screw rich people. Fair would be everyone pays a set amount, like$20,000.00. This would end the reallocation of wealth through tax theft. I’m not rich by any means, but fair share to me means fair.
