Good grief !!! Such a judgemental and profane bigot. If you think Trump is the answer, then you don't understand the question.
Seldom do I find a farmer's story that exemplifies so much of the personality flaws that cause urban Americans to stereotype rural America.

I grew up on a dairy farm in wisconsin in the late 70s and mid 80s. i wanted to be a farmer after high school, but the farm couldn't support my dad and me. i went to college to be an ag mechanic but farm economy was still bad and no shops were hiring tecks so i found a good job in a local machine shop and got an apprenticeship. Today I am a toolmaker/machinist for John Deere with two years till retirement. I still work part time on a large dairy farm doing spring/fall tillage, hay and corn silage harvesting and liquid manure pumping. I commend you for all you farmers do and enjoy watching all the farm youtubers. I find it to be like the soaps that my mom used to watch daily when i was a young boy. Anyway, keep up being you, and the other guys can be themselves. I wish our family farm would have survived the farm crises of the 80's but it didnt so I go on working on a farm parttime and keeping the green iron moving full time.....

4th generation here but the farm was in retirement until I stepped up. I’m blessed to have a grandfather and father that had old equipment with me to start with. Still don’t have the newest equipment but really upgraded not like I want but I make what I have work and I make a comfortable living. That being said I see several first generation social media farmers talk about starting out a few years ago talk about how they started out with a couple acres and now couple of thousand and begging to rent more land on Facebook. I’m pretty sure to grow that fast they cut other farmers throats to get there. I would like to farm more acres but I’m not going to stab my neighbor in the back. We all have to work together .
I tried watching/listening to a Duffy video while planting the other day. I think he said, “ oh and I own a farm”. No the USDA owns it, he don’t own it yet. Most of the younger farmers and some older ones, never own anything. Land is leveraged and equipment is never owned but traded in for something newer as soon as they have enough equity in the old piece of equipment. I was just a kid in the 80’s but went to several, “ going out of business “ auctions then. The way things are headed that’s going to happen again. I’ll still be farming.

I also watch DA, but I hope he makes it, he does frustrate the heck out of me. I’ve been running my operation for three years now since my dad passed, and if I did it like him I’d be in financial trouble. I run older equipment too but you got to keep it up and at a certain point it needs replacing. I’m about ten years younger than you and I have to agree with what you mean. Some people just need to learn the hard way. I must admit that I inherited my operation and didn’t have to buy it but that’s a lot to do with dad’s management, he knew I’d be older when I started out on my own and sacrificed along the way to save up so my siblings could get cash and I could get the farm. It’s been painful to watch DA but, I hope he makes it, I think he’s taking the long hard way around.

Yes I agree, I love to procrastinate on a lot of things but, when the ground is fit , it’s time to roll, pet projects take a back seat. I’m in an area of Minnesota where well, let’s say we are nuts in a ten mile radius that we go like mad men. We are usually done with both corn and beans by the time USDA has planting progress at 50% for corn. And if I had test weight like DA had I’d be ashamed of it. Last year for me was year 4 of some level of drought and most corn in my area was 53-55lb test. I had 4.5 inches from the time I planted till harvest, now we got 4 inches from Friday night till this morning.

And for all you people that read this you know a man that takes care of his mama and so forth most of you people would put your old people your parents and so forth in a nursing home where they treat people like animals and their dop up with drugs so much they don't even know who they are after a couple of months they're just like a who knows what like a robot and that's how they want them so you can say whatever you want to but a man that takes care of his mama and gives her a place to live rather than putting her in a place where they treat people like their animals and dope them up to where they don't even know their own name after a couple of months treat them like crap

A bushel is basically 1.5 cubic feet. Weight varies, ie: corn is 56#, soybeans and wheat are 60#, barley is 48#, and oats are 32#. That's the standard, but it varies by test weight for each crop.

Less than 2% of the population farms. Less than 2% of them screwtube, ( my best guess). I used to Dairy myself, (4th generation )but now I work on a cattle grain operation. Couldn't make ends meet with an ex, a wonderful wife, and 4 kids. Rented out my land and went to work elsewhere. I get to play with new toys and not have to pay for them. This lady several years ago when my son had hogs at the county fair had no idea that the bacon she had for breakfast and the ham sandwiches she had for the kids lunch came from hogs. She thought that all the hogs in the barn were pests and would be going back home at the end of the fair. When I told her that every hog would be picked up and taken to the market, she got a little sick looking.
