Have had my 400SEL since 2013. The previous owner spent a fortune on it. I have spent a small fortune on it. Fortunately have a mechanic whom was trained on engineering the W140's to fix it and do repairs without being completely exploited. In saying that its now in the best mechanical condition I have ever experienced. On the M1 highway it cruises like sitting in 1st Class on a Boeing air-jet and is moderate on fuel consumption. Before it use to drink like a camel. Drive it only on Sundays for 2hrs. Everything works on it now. Its unique, masterly engineered and superior in comfort and way more affordable than its really worth on the market. The equivalent in todays market I'd need 200k to spend or more for anything similar. Its priced on the market today 24k. So in a sense its the most advanced cheapest luxury vehicle today. Nothing else is comparable in my opinion. 0-90 klm is really an experience. Like a Top Gun take off. 90-180klm it monsters and you feel like the car is sitting on 110klm in a leather sofa. The vehicle is underestimated and a beast on the road.
W140 S500 Is iconic... no car like out there. I ha e a 1998 w140 s500. And let me tell you they dont make them loke this anymore... sounds soo sick!! 💯👍🏼
I’m thinking about removing the resonator and replacing the stock muffler on my CL 600. What brand and PN of the muffler did you use? Is it a dual inlet, I couldn’t tell in the video.
So yes it’s a dual inlet and dual outlet. I don’t know PN because it was the last one they had and they gave me a deal because it was there display one.
The engine and transmission are extremely reliable. Most people break 200k with basic maintenance. The issue is electronics and aging interior parts that break. A lot of people give up on them when stuff stops working and they find out it will cost thousands if they can even find someone to diagnose an electric issue. I do all my own electric work and it’s been enjoyable for the most part. If you are handy and don’t rely solely on this car it’s definitely a classic you can live with.

Only on camera. I realized it didn’t pick up the sound difference. I did like the first one a lot but very quiet in person. The last one was loud but refined like the first mod. It’s really how loud you want it with each one of these.
I used rustoleum vinyl spray and vinyl spray clear coat. Really easy to apply and can be peeled off in future. No sanding or anything needed. Just clean really well and spray.
@@marcosantoniocovarrubias6019 understandable. I know I’ve done it a bunch in videos. I even have one painting that not too long ago. But there are 4 I believe 8mm bolts that go on posts that stick into the frame behind the lining in trunk. Shoot me a message on instagram. I can send you some photos. I’m working on that area now on another car
I put a complete exhaust on my 1995 S320 and it sounds awesome!
