It's funny, because while it looks a little unnatural because the chest and weapon stay very still, that's kinda lore accurate. Spartans would be able to hold their rifle so steady it seemed inhumane.
@@HaloVFXI agree w OPs comment that it's lore accurate for them to be that steady and I feel like your reference model leading you to this is just fate giving us that level of spartan precision shown in animation for the first time in a while. Edit: fate and your immense skill and passion.
That would make it more unrealistic. As someone that shoots regularly, the Spartan is moving too much. A Spartan should be like a robot where their upper body basically doesn't move at all.
No. they dont. The gun is pressed into your shoulder so its perfectly aligned with the body at all times. especially on a train soldier. I animate weapons for a living.@@BigBladeFan
Give the shoulders just the slightest amount “sway” while walking like very subtley that way it preserves their unnatural stability but it also doesn’t look cheap and unfinished and it’ll be golden

I think the lower half looks good but you should square up the chest to the target. The canted upper body is what you would see for stationary shooting. On the move generally it's better to be squared up with your target. 2 reasons for this, your balance and stability is better while moving and it keeps the best part of your armor facing the threat. If you are canted sideways your side armor and gaps in your armor are more exposed. If you look up modern special forces you can see this as well as a more upright posture.
Been doing it for over a decade now, always wanted to do animation for films as a kid and studied Visual effects at university (not needed for the job) but let me learn all aspects of the pipeline to a certain basic level. But most of the stuff I know / do day in day out is entirely self taught really :)

Much love and i hope you feel pride in your work my friend
While the hands would stay still because its a spartan, the animation is lacking upwards movement of the legs extending to push the spartan forward. Right now it looks more like hes floating instead of walking.
That is the way it should be. As an avid shooter, you want as little movement as possible on your upper body. The Spartan is actually moving too much. A Spartan should be like a robot where their upper body basically doesn't move at all.
@@Probable.Orange It is like you roll forward and catch yourself with your feet. You are not just pushing off the ground. If you squat down a little, you can mimic this movement. @@R00KIE_GUY no matter what stance you're in your legs still need to push off the ground. Right now if you look at the up channel on the Spartans hips I'm very certain there's no keys there
As someone that actually shoots, my only recommendation is don't make the upper body so shaky. It throws off aim while moving and something we as shooters try to minimize as much as possible. Many of us look like robots while moving. A Spartan would be a master of having their upper body being as still as possible. Squatting a little lower allows the legs to move more and negate this sway as well. Here is a great example video on moving and shooting: ruclips.net/video/v2mRYKqHDUU/видео.html
In fairness to you the ref I used he’s not holding a weapon but mimicking it and he’s dead still and lower like you are suggesting. Might revisit it (making him dead still torso wise although “correct” visually would look uncanny from an animation pov and visually looks better if he still looks somewhat “human” in that it moves a touch as he’s counter balancing through the movements :) But you defo make valid points :)

I agree. My issue with Spartans in Halo Reach was actually that their movements looked too human.
To be fair to myself, im using reference that it's closely matched to and the ref didnt move their hands much at all :)

Great job btw!
MMMM that balance, that grace mix with power and smooth motion.

Looks good man, I would maybe add a slight amount of movement on the arms and chest, very slight

nice work man
I think the bottom half looks disconnected from the top half. Still looking good though
