  • Big Hits 98 is a compilation album released in September 1998. It is part of the Hits compilation series begun in 1984.
Big Hits 98 is one of the more popular albums in the series, as it had charted in the UK Compilations Chart at number one and stayed there for five weeks, and was also the first Hits album released in September, avoiding competition with Hits lead rivals Now That's What I Call Music!, who only release main albums in March/April, July and November.

Movie songs featured here - "I Am" by Suggs from The Avengers, "Deeper Underground" by Jamiroquai from Godzilla, "Turn Back Time" by Aqua from Sliding Doors ("Thank You" by Dido from the same movie which played during the closing credits and didn't appear until a 2001 compilation and when it was the second track taken from the "No Angel" album, just as Eminem sampled it for "Stan" over the year before), Apollo 440's 'Lost in Space' was from the same name of the actual film as it was the main dance instrumental played during the closing credits.

Having checked cover versions here - How Do I Live (Trisha Yearwood, 1997) as LeAnn Rimes released her version over a week later in the US charts and Leanne's cover was a huge hit though despite the single got released in the UK when Con Air hit cinemas in January 1998 just as the original version lost out to the cruise ship ballad 'My Heart Will Go On' for Best Original Song at the Oscars, 'Rocks' wasn't a bad cover version for Rod Stewart neither as its the follow-up to that other solo cover 'Ooh La La' , also Another Level's chart-topper of 'Freak Me' was originally a US number one for Silk five years before, Sweetbox's 'Everything's Gonna Be Alright' is a sample of a classical piece 'Air in G Minor' by Sebastian Bach, Hi-Rise's cover of 'I Believe in Miracles' was originally recorded by Jackson Sisters in 1980, 'Mas Que Nada' was to accompany the World Cup that Summer and it did again eight years later for the original man Sergio Mendes, when the Black Eyed Peas ripped it off but Mendes was featured as collaborator though, also Jocelyn Brown's cover of 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' from Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell in 1967, co-written by Nicholas Ashford & Valerie Simpson, it was later most famous for Diana Ross though over three years later and went to number one on the US Hot 100, also the main instrumental riff of that song was stolen again over eight years later courtesy of 'Tears Dry On Their Own' by Amy Winehouse from the 'Back to Black' album, as for another sample, Fatboy Slim's 'The Rockafellar Skank' rips off Just Brothers' 'Sliced Tomatoes' and lastly Peter Andre's cover of 'Kiss the Girl' from the 1998 re-release of the 1989 animated movie 'The Little Mermaid'. in a unusual term it did appear on NOW 40 around the same time as the Big Hits compilation, and lastly N-Trance's dance cover of the Guns N' Roses 1989 hit 'Paradise City', was probably not their last until 'Tears in the Rain' at Christmas'98 as the Kelly Llorenna-sounding 'Set You Free' was their biggest hit.
