Thanks for the video , Craig. My mum and I are learning how to marble , but the colours are not coming out bright enough. Do you have any ideas why it’s not working
Love the video. We bought your kit in Malvern Quilt Show. And I'm taking it to class next week to show the ladies the wonders of marbling. Fingers crossed we can make some interesting fabric pieces.
The paints we use are specialised paints, they are water based, non-toxic and stain onto most natural surfaces or fibres. The paints are included in our marbling kit and also bought separately on our website. The marbling kit used in the video includes cellulose powder, (this thickens the water) concentrated paints, pipettes, (these are used to drop one droplet of paint at a time onto the surface of the water) and alum crystals. (this is used to pre-treat certain items so that the surface absorbs the paints more efficiently) For those that are interested, the website address is: www.marbling4fun.net

craig Joubert great stuff. What type of paint is that oils or acrylic . it must be oils because oil and water don't mix. 2ndly, can I submerge white fibre glass cloth into that coloured paint water to pick up this image and then glass it on a surfboard I am building?
Hi Brian, the paint I use is water based formulated to stain fibres and textures that are porous. I used to marble wooden surf boards then resin/fiberglass on top.
For smaller pieces you wish to marble, use a small pair of pliers to hold onto your piece. For bigger pieces, we find it is easier to hold with your fingers. Your fingers do get paint on, but it rubs off afterwards.
Sweety Jain its oil paint (oil and water never mix) it forms a very light film skin and just floats on the water. just use old colours from spray cans it cheaper than this. and you can alo spry short bursts on top of each other or to the sides.. if you dip an electric guitar body you've sanded down of old paint take some newspaper after you dunk the guitar body in the bucket and push pull all the excess colour away from your guitar then pull it out once its covered let dry then spray clear varnish over to protect guitar body

(this is used to pre-treat certain items so that the surface absorbs the paints more efficiently) In terms of textiles, once you have printed your design, to make it machine washable, (on a gentle cycle) give it an iron (alternately you can place it in a tumble dryer on a hot cycle) this seals the paints onto the fabric. Also, we make our paints based on light fastness, meaning that if well kept, your fabric print will last for decades. For those that are interested, our website address is: www.marbling4fun.net

Hi, No. If the pottery is bisque (which is what it has to be), you don't need to alum it. Just submerge.
Thanks for the demo. looks like great fun. I'm a new silk painter and potter you've tied my two new loves together! Thanks
Just found this technique! Amazing I going to the craft store today!!! Thanks for posting ❤️
Do you use surfactant on the water? Can you use pottery underglaze?
Can you use acrylic paint for this?

That is a good question. No, it cannot. We use a water based paint and not glazes. We use either varnish or resin to protect prints afterwards.

Boo Bear Dilute 1:1 with deionised water
Please tell me if this process can be applied to glass
Once I tried it didn’t stick on, maybe alum didn’t work ??
Why do you think so? thank you
ASKIMROWLAND any surface needs to be porous to absorb
I would suggest to sandblast the glass before to make it more porous.
But anyway if the colors are water based it could be difficult to apply on glass
No it only works on natural absorbing surfaces.
So awesome! He looks amazing!

Hi :) All pottery needs to be bisque and not glazed. No alum is needed for bisque as it is very absorbent.
Craig Chrissie Joubert Does it then need to go into a kiln again after marbling? Thanks!
No, I spray the pottery with a clear vanish that does not turn yellow after time.
