    Because of your video I decided to take a class... This morning in Florence in a little atelier in front of Palazzo Pitti I had a class with a man that was 5th generation artisan in book binding and marble paper. I was amazed at what I achieved in one hour. I understood 90% of what Guido was telling me. Now I want to do more!

    The 'gel git' technique translates to 'come and go' in Turkish. The '... peri' effect translates to 'fairy' in Turkish. The techniques used here are Turkish. Well done in exhibiting the beauty of Turkish style marbling here 🙂

    That's awesome, my grandpa use to do this back in the 1910's - 1920's, that was way way before my time, lol, so it's cool to see how he would have did it. I have some of his marbled papers and always wondered how. He would do those scallops and peacock design thing to. Just beautifully amazing designs.

    ♡💗♡Seeing the process never ruins it, quite the contrary - it's very inspirational to see and it's so satisfying to see the colors being manipulated by the creator and the reveal is so exciting your final result is exquisite that of an oil painting. This can be quite therapeutic; for the creator, and the audience as is so the case for me. I would love to start doing something like this. Thank you to whoever recorded, as well to the artíst who is very talented!💕

      The magic is always there after watching for half an hour or more at Williamsburg VA. I was hooked and I looked for old books I could afford with Marbled Fly leafs and such, just to own the pages. I get lost in them every time I look at them.

      I agree, to me it's even more magical when you see the process.
      I don't think it was understanding how it's done that ruined the magic for her, but more likely having done it so much for so long. Often when you turn art into a routine or a job it loses its magic, it becomes a chore.

    • @marblingsupplies
      @marblingsupplies  4 года назад +2

      All good questions.. Carageenan is used to thicken the water. Aluminum Sulphate is used to make the design bond permanently with the paper (paper is not special but I choose to use a Japanese printmaking paper called Masa) and drying takes about 45 minutes indoors and less outdoors. All of these items and instrucitons are available for purchase at www.marblingsupplies.etsy.com.

      Kenny, the paper will wrinkle somewhat. I use better paper, chosen with this in mind (see question above). After my papers are completely dry, they go under a cookie sheet with several heavy books piled on top for several days. This helps press out the wrinkles.

      @@marblingsupplies Brilliant. Thank you for taking your time and answering me. I notice many marbling techniques use an Alum size, but I want to stay away from that as I know it can make the papers of the book acidic. I had to recently repair some cover issues to a crumbling old book with exactly this problem, but sadly it can not be reversed. The pages were yellowed and literally fell apart in my hands as I tried to tip in some loose leaves. I really enjoyed your video. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. God bless, Ken UK.

    Hi Heidi, I love your marbling and have been trying it myself at home. Just had a couple of questions about your technique! How do you stop the paint washing away when you rinse the paper? Also do you use alum or any other mordant? Thanks 😊

      Alice, The mordant aluminum sulfate (alum) prevents most of the paint from being washed away during the rinse. Read about alum here: www.etsy.com/listing/118997728/crystalline-marbling-alum-for-paper-and?ref=shop_home_active_29

    Great stuff. The water looked thick - does it have something added to it?

      Hi. I use a food additive called carrageenan: www.etsy.com/listing/117930052/half-pound-carrageenan-powder-supplies?ref=shop_home_active_14&crt=1

    It looks fantastic! I liked your limited use of colour. I tried it too with acrylics (see video).

    I've tried with acrylic paint on tapwater, and oil thinned with turpentine, but it does not work for me. What do I have to do to make mine look like this, and be as firm as this?

      Patrick: My process uses carrageenan, a food thickener. It's available at www.marblingsupplies.etsy.com. Thanks!

    How does the paint stay on top of the water? Is there something in the water?

    • @marblingsupplies
      @marblingsupplies  4 года назад
