Thank you! I am trying to do this with my summer camp kids in a few weeks and this is the easiest and best description of what to use. Thank you for making this understandable! We have done this at craft shows and it is so much fun- We may do this all day!
By far the best explanation with actual steps! Subscribed! Thank you for being so kind and sharing this with us.
The most instructive video I've found so far! Thank you
beautiful work, incorporating the marbling with your other painting give the whole a layering of depth that works spectacularly, very original. Keep marbling.

Wow, when you turned the paper and I see the woman, it was shockingly beautifrul... Wow Rene, I was touched, really touched, Ive been watching this style in a few videos awed by its simplicity and beauty... But when u made the reveal I was blown away. The impact of what you are doing can be felt around the world. Amazing, and wow thank you...

I just finished her workshop and loved it! I was able to Marble 28 pieces in two days! Rene is very patient and a great teacher
hi kristie! Do you mind telling me what paint you use for marbling? I only have water based color at hand rn and so far with no sucess. Do you use acrylic?
In the first 90 sec you answered almost every question I had. To bad I have watched about 20 or more so called "How to videos" Thanks for being direct and nice work.
I did some research on Ebru a couple of years ago because I was interested in learning it, but could not find anything in english that would actually mention how to make the sizing and the coating for the paper. Fast forward to today that I'm just sitting here watching videos on how to create high flow acrylics and I find you with all the instructions I needed 2 years ago! The difference is that I know have my own studio in my house so I guess I found you at the right time! Thanks so much for sharing!! I'm definitely going to try this soon! You art work is so beautiful and you instructions are so great that I feel even more compelled to try it now more than before! Thanks again!
wow... thank you for explaining it all... I realy enjoy watching you ... it a wow wow wow
Love it,loveit, love it..i can see how this could get you hooked
Excellent information. I studied in Turkey and you have done a great job of covering Ebru in the United States.
ur work is remarkable...i m amazed how u can bring human images with marbling
This is amazing. Wish they had taught us to do this in school
This art is called "Ebru" in Turkish. In Georgia (country) the teacher teaches us this art. It's amazing. Thank you for this video! It's wonderful.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Amazing!
I just fell in love...again. I am inspired. I've tried lots of different mediums...this is my next one. I can't wait to see a video. I am going to your web site this second. Thank you!
Wow this is great. I just have to find out how to make those different combs.
This would be an excellent companion for My drawings on a piece of paper too.
Thank you for showing us your Beautiful art and how it is done. Peace&Love.
That's a nice, pretty picture. You draw really well.👍🤗
Thanks to share. The best video i needed
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge...I hope to learn more...to make covers for my books. :)
Stunning.
Excellent work, the body of an electric guitar so I want to paint this style
best tutorial ever.
thanks
Love this video. Now I want to do marbling.
Beautiful work and very inspirational!! Love your work!
Jean Corbett
Thanks Jean! I'm teaching a marbling workshop this Friday and Saturday and have a few new paintings I would like to marble.
I always prefer the art prior to the rakes/combs. However, I did like the addition of the "holes" - as that's something I've never seen done before. Pretty neat!
You do beautiful work and very unique
your drawings are the most beautiful I have seen with the ebru on top/beneath it.
Brooke Nob
Thanks Brooke! I am working on a full length instructional video on marbling, but my creative team is taking a break to work on some other projects. Hopefully it will be ready to distribute soon :)

I love putting the marbling over your paintings! I would be scared about ruining them lol.
Thank you I like this medium. will look for a class
Thanks!
That was great to see!
Im ganna find a marble course!
Amazing work! i loved the Spanish dancer artwork. How do you protect the artwork (spanish dancer ) before you put it into the marbled tray ?
Love the art can't find seed weed gelatin where you get yours? Love to try it!! Keep up the beautiful art thank you!!!
Cool!
that's amazing
wonderful thank you. How do you make the holes in the marbling pattern?
Very nice! What kind of painting do you use?
Wow! This is so interesting and lovely! I was wondering how the combination of watercolor and marbling works. Do you always have to do the watercolor first? Is it possible to do the marbling and then improvise the watercolor over it?
Hello , I'd first like to thank you so much for such an amazing video, I've been struggling to find such detailed ones in here.
I do have a question though.
Is it possible to use the same technique steps in marbling canvases ?
If so , Do i need to cover the canvas with resolved Alum before marbling it ?
And how did you make the lacy holes in the pattern , did you use only water or was it something else ?
Thank you very much.
i love it. do you have the exact measures for mixing alum and carrigeenan
Hi Rene, thanks so much for sharing, it's the best tutorial with detailed info on-line. I'm a complete newbie and would love to give this a go, I'm based in Ireland so no chance of taking classes here . Can I be bold and ask what the ratios of allum to /water or carrageen/water. Can I be bold and ask ?
This is going to be a wild guess but to me it looks somewhere around 500ml of water to 50g of allum but from other tutorials they recommend 178ml water and 2 tablespoons of allum and I couldn't say the ratio on carrageen but I have seen recommended as 1 tablespoon to 4 cups water. I do hope this helps, I have been struggling myself to find a full in depth tutorial for this. I live in England myself and I do not know anywhere to sign up for a class!
Hi Edel, that's great, thanks so much. From Google , I've come across this website www.ebruart.co.uk/Courses-and-workshops. Also check out Jemma Lewis , I was in contact with her & she does workshops also in UK - www.jemmamarbling.com. Hope this helps - I might have to take a trip over as nothing available here :)

I found this: www.marblingpaper.com/Marbling%20Instructions.html My english skills are not so good..Greetings from Berlin.
www.dharmatrading.com/techniques/marbling-instructions.html here i have readed it but not success. Are you success with above topic?
Hello, I am a senior art student who is going to explore ebru and water marbling as my semester long senior project, so I have a few questions. What brand of acrylic paint are you purchasing and is tap water ok to thin it? How much water to how much paint? Also, what type of brushes are you using? Also does the alum prevent the paper from soaking up the water and becoming misshapen (curling up)?
Hello! Probably the best instructional video on Ebru art on RUclips! What are the measurements of alum/Carrageenan to water to make these solutions?
Excellent demonstration and filming, I must explore this as I have always used oil based paints in the past, so messy! Hopefully you may see some results on my channel, inspired by, later. Thanks!
I purchased this video and recommend enjoying it with your art groups and art friends. Rene Eisenbart is an excellent, generous instructor. Her expertise and research become apparent as she shares in detail how to create marble patterns and shares tips that help to make the process easier for you. Her willingness to let the process of developing a painting go through many stages whether you start or end with marbling is a great lesson for all artists. I recommend taking her marbling workshop for an up close view with necessary tools provided.

This video is a labor of love and I thank you Rene for all you have done to create it!
Your work is gorgeous! I'm having a hard time with the size. It's always lumpy. :(. I have tried so many times. I'm about to give up. Could you please give me any advice?
very inspiring i want to do it so bad, thanks -maybe you could cutout a pattern on cardboard to use as a guide for the comb thingy like triangles, squares or alternating shapes even.
Hola René ,¿ podrías darnos las medidas para hacer el Carragenato ? Gracias. Un saludo
Hello, Can you use this same method with a deeper water bath to submerge something like ceramic bisque?
hi. nicely done, please share the names of powders which u have used to wet the paper.
fantastic video what does the alum do to the paper?
My question is similar to ones by Z.B. and S.G., which is: The floating medium, I have cornstarch used and the effect is similar. Is Carrageenan preferred? Also, dispersing the colors on the surface...A floating medium (such liqui-flow --a local generic paint flow enhancing agent) or is there something specific like ox-gall, which I understand to be perhaps one of the original methods?
I enjoyed the video very much (despite my questions). Thank you for sharing this!
This is a wonderful technic . can it use in silk?
Can we use the same technique on canvas? it has not come well though! whats can be done to transfer this to canvas!
Beautiful. Would love to take a class in Miami. How is the paper or cloth treated? How would you transfer onto cloth?
After sponging on the Alum, do you let the paper dry before placing it on your paint? thanks!
hello, just saw your tutorial and I am blown away. I paint with watercolors and I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. What is the clear liquid in the two jars you use to separate the paint? And do you put any thing over your paintings before you marble the background? Do you coat the non painted portions with the alum mixture you spoke about in the beginning of the video? how do you deal with the possible running of the watercolor that is being submerged?
Please if you may, send me your answers.. Your newest fan, and subscriber.
Beautifully interesting! Can you use Metamucil instead of carrageenan or can I buy carrageenan locally? Also, what are the measurements---how much alum/water, how much carrageenan/water? Thanks in advance.
If I'm marbling fabric do I soak the material in the alum solution or just brush it on? And if you are doing this over a previous painting do I still brush the alum solution over the finished painting? Thank you for the great video!
Amber Bouley silk marbling
Hello Rene! I thinking about doing a small business of book biding, and i'm thinking about using the Marble technique to the to cover of the books, but carrageenan is is very expensive were i live, is there any another way to substitute it for something more affordable?
There are tutorials out there that use cornstarch but the outcome is not as nice. Regardless if you buy the carrageenan and make a mix as long as you remove all the paint from the top you can re use the size and put it back into a container for other uses :)
Can u thicken with warm water and corn starch or used liquid starch?? I'm trying to dip a long taper candle to marble it completely..I may have used too much of liquid starch cuz paint is not transferring to candle
Hi. Excellent art job. Is it regular acrylic paint and the water you prepare?
Can you use arcrylic marble painting on silk scarves?
amazing , what kind of paper do you use , can i use cloth,,'?
Wow what's the name of the technique showed at the end, you couldn't see the picture before placing the paper, but after THERE it is! WOW! Any videos on that?
joseph garcia She just pre-painted on the paper before adding the pattern.
After drying the quality remain glossy or met finish? Which type of paper is used for print?
Do you build your own trays or can you purchase them somewhere. I want to learn to do material.
how much water carrageenan and water do I have to put? how is it suppose look like or feel like? I'm really excited to start. I hope I bought the right carrageenan, I don't know where you buy your carrageenan.
Does it matter what type of Alum? Because there is Alum in the Food/Canning section and I found Alum in the craft section of the stores.Same question goes for the Carrageenan powder.
Inspiring! Do you have DVDs for sale? I see you are in Portland. Do you have a class schedule? What is your website address?
this is safe to do on skin correct? please answer soon we are trying to find a way to watermarble our arms and such in art club
is your size quite thin? seems that the acrylics float better on a thinner size. But also what kind of acrylics are you using here? the paint is so opaque and beautiful
Brooke Nob The size I am using is not excessively thick but it is thick enough to hold up most of the paint. I am using Utrect Heavy Body Acrylic and M.Graham Acrylic paint, thinned with water to the consistency of cream.
wow i started to learn ebru. and i dont know another country knows this. i thought only in turkey make this art.
Heavy metal players seem to be used to this on their guitars. And i did this with oil and paints in school to customize a notebook, around 14 years ago
what does the alum do???and how much to thin acrylic pain and r these paint the same paint that we use on canvas....
nice :) what is the song at the end? so beautifull
Hello Rene - quick question - what is the alum for? What does it to the surface of the paper? Is it necessary? Thanks, Martin.
Amazing Turkish art Ebru
What kind of paper do you use? And is Canson paper suitable?
Would liquid starch or even gelatin work for thickening? Thanx!
as far as marbling over paintings... is there anything that needs to be done to the original painting before transferring the marble design onto canvas/paper
Can you please tell me how you get the colors to stay so brilliniat, even on the size? I am using methyl Cellulose and acrylic paint. I treated the paper with alum, and used an oxgall substitute. The colors are very pastel like, but yours are so bright!
Wendy Turner
I am using carrageenan for size. Most likely the reason my acrylics appear brighter and yours more pastel is that I begin with black. Apply it first before any other color, as it spreads out and when you add other colors the black creates a very thin outline around each color droplet, making the colors appear stronger. If you use black later in the process it tends to sink. When I skip the black, my colors look pastel too.
Rene Eisenbart Thanks so much for your reply! Do you use ox gall or Photo Flo? I am finding the ox gall isn't working to spread the color very well. What paint do you use, and how do you mix? Thanks so much, info is so hard to find!
Wendy Turner Wendy, I do use the gall, which is really just a kind of soap. But I mix a small amount of gall with a LOT of water to make a weak solution, otherwise it just makes a big open circle in the center.
wow
