Geez I have some line that’s old, time to purge my inventory. However I recently purchased new line in bulk because I noticed it was cheaper. So great information. As always enjoyed the video.
Since I'm not fishing for a living (and I'm cheap), I don't go through and replace all my line every year like you hear a lot of guys doing. What I have started doing recently is tracking when I replace line on each reel. I write a number on the bottom of each reel foot and have a spreadsheet where I can track when I replace line on each reel, along with type, size, brand, manufacturer, etc. That makes it easy for me to see when I may have some line that is getting old and should at least be inspected. Plus I can keep track of how well different brands of line seem to be performing for me.
Just too bad line manufacturers aren’t required to put a date of manufacture on each spool, there’s always a chance you are putting on line older/or seen more uv light than what your taking off depending on how it was stored and how long it set on shelf before it was purchased, most warehouses don’t have a first in first out process to track and stores just continuously stack fresh over top of old until it’s sold and somebody gets that old line, guess that’s why they’re called “stores”

That’s great! You are in essence already doing what I was suggesting, tailored to your situation! Perfect!

Does line really go bad? I keep my line in the basement where it is climate controlled.
That’s a good first step! I would still use my older line prior to line I recently bought.
