Yes. It was a heroic run to the finals, but their roster had gotten worse over the offseason. The lack of depth is evident. Prioritising signing experienced but aging players Henrique and Skinner, to a lesser extent Arvidsson while losing Broberg, Holloway with a hole in the top 4 makes no sense.
i feel like the oilers were extremely lucky to have even made it to the finals. they almost lost to a 3rd string goaltender in silvos. the issue i saw in the SC finals was they met a coach who knew how to play against them as maurice swept the oilers when he was with the jets.
Just shows how easy of a run to cup the Oil had last season. Just leafs west at this point. Hoping offence can be the answer all the time is a bad recipe.
I don't think their roster is worse , I'm seeing players that aren't meshing very well and the same issues with D and in net that have been dogging them for years now ...
This is a 2 man team once again with a worse defensive core than last year. If Mcadrai isn’t playing well, they lose because there is absolutely no depth on this roster. They can’t still be favored to win it all this year.
Ah yes, Stuart Skinner is officially the worst goalie ever. Let’s just erase his incredible 2022-23 season, where he was an NHL All-Star and a Calder Trophy finalist, because he’s going through a rough stretch right now. Truly brilliant analysis-throw out all logic, ignore context, and jump straight to extremes. Clearly, the NHL needs your razor-sharp insight to redefine what “worst” even means.
Shake up the roster with the Pens. Trade Marcus Petterson at 50% retained, Jesse Puljujarvi and Drew O'Connor for Sam O'Reilly and Jeff Skinner. Or trade former Edmonton Oil King Tristan Jarry for Stewart Skinner and Jeff Skinner.
@jeffreyferreira3811 Time takes a toll. Leafs were ready to pay him the same annual salary but they weren't willing to give him that length of contract due to his age and injury history. Looks like they were right.
In response to the question that forms the title of the TSN video segment, there’s no doubt the Oilers have some roster shaking-up to do. Once again they threw defence under the bus, allowing five goals, including three in the second period.
Another "GREAT" game from the Oilers! They conceded “only” 5 goals 🤣with amazing help from defender Bouchard 😂😂 and the magical goalkeeper “Skinner the Winner”😝. What a game! what a coach Knob!😂
Put Drai with McDavid...then separate them for a game, then back together lol. They have 2 players, if they dominate they win and if they don't they lose.
As long as Bouchard and Skinner in net are on this team we can't win anything. The Oilers need grit in their bottom 6 and Shutdown D pairings for all 3 pairs with someone who doesn't let in a goal on the first shot every other game.
Watch Minnesota's first 2 goals...Then re-call Saturday Night vs Toronto...Same guy...Number 2....TRADE HIM NOW!!!....OR....Make him a forward and only put him on the point for powerplays......He has no business being on the blue line. He is a DEFENSIVE DISASTER!!!!...
Oilers are not scoring like last year, where sub par goaltending maintains a win... we need a starter that can steal games, clearly Skinner is not there yet. Don't even get me started with Bouchard and his ineptness at defence.
Call up savoie and Noah this team needs youth and people who hit every game oilers lose in hitting department every game, hold players accountable knob, Jesus how many chances do you give bouch what does that say to the team !!
@@realdylanoof not for the oilers it seems its not like last year this year there older dumber making more mistakes than last year there only chance is the 2nd wildcard spot and probably swept in the 1st round
Blackwood at 50% retained (from Buffalo) Marcus Pettersson at 75% retained (25% retained from Buffalo) a first of its kind retention deal from two different teams
The Oilers were overrated last year and they are older, weaker and slower than last year. They just have the privilege of playing in the weakest division in hockey so that is their only hope. They have terrible forward depth, terrible defence and terrible goaltending. One of the most overrated teams ever.
@ played a weak ass Kings team with no point a game player in their team and a 36 year old Talbot in net. Then played an inexperienced Canucks team that didn’t even make the playoffs the previous year and had a third stringer in net. The depth and goaltending is bad but the priority has to be right D.
Instead of signing Skinner, they could have signed Broberg but they will still win the cup this year. They are a better team this year than last.
It's both the defence and the goalies.
Since the 2022/2023 season Stu has faced 81 East/West chances off the rush. 38 Goals Against. Rank 118 out of 118 goalies that qualify.
I'm not entirely convinced Marty Biron isn't a vampire.
Them francos with the intense eyes man
Bouchard and Stuart Skinner....brutal game in and game out

Skinner is the worst NHL goalie, PERIOD.

i love how much you clowns touted him last spring to anyone who would listen. you made this bed, enjoy it.
@ObscureReference9 Was the best goalie in the SCF 🥱🥱 Stats dont lie. Also, was the reason Oilers won game 6 of the wcf to advance to the finals.

Looks like Father time has caught up with Hyman. The length of that contract is going to be troublesome.
I know! It's crazy how bad he's playing this year after an absolute fire season last year.
@jeffreyferreira3811 Time takes a toll. Leafs were ready to pay him the same annual salary but they weren't willing to give him that length of contract due to his age and injury history. Looks like they were right.
No. After saturday game they have a week off they need to practice there powerplay and PK.
They need to practice d-zone coverage and controlling attackers in front of their own net.
Clean House!

How many times do we all as fans say they need to strengthen the defence and find a goalie that can stop pucks.

Does TSN need to stop talking about the Oilers?
Put Drai with McDavid...then separate them for a game, then back together lol. They have 2 players, if they dominate they win and if they don't they lose.
Seems like the Oilers talk more about reaching Game 7 of the cup finals more than the Panthers do who actually won the Cup.
How about shaking up the management?
Skinner is the Daniel Jones of the NHL
well, when half the roster is injured, i think so lmao
Better question does McDavid need to be on a different team?
As long as Bouchard and Skinner in net are on this team we can't win anything. The Oilers need grit in their bottom 6 and Shutdown D pairings for all 3 pairs with someone who doesn't let in a goal on the first shot every other game.
They should have picked up Anthony Stolarz in the off season. He is now the leafs #1 goalie!
They need a bonified goalie coach with some nhl cred for starters . When was the last time goaltending was not mediocre at best on this team ?
Watch Minnesota's first 2 goals...Then re-call Saturday Night vs Toronto...Same guy...Number 2....TRADE HIM NOW!!!....OR....Make him a forward and only put him on the point for powerplays......He has no business being on the blue line. He is a DEFENSIVE DISASTER!!!!...

I just want to thank the Oilers for trading us Lane Hutson for kulack

the oilers ALWAYS need to fix SOMETHING- they're one of the most inconsistent teams in the nhl, seemingly all the god-damn-time lol
Oilers needs to shake up their both goalies. Both of them are not reliable.
They need a goalie and a right handed Dman
