As much as I really enjoy these trips, I miss the days of your adventures on the paddleboard and kayaks! Can’t wait to see where you go next!
Dude went from a few hundred dollar kayak setup to a multi-thousand dollar motorized setup
Headed out tomorrow on the SUP for 3 days ;)
@@TripSmith that sounds fantastic! Can’t wait to see it!
When I was a youngster we sunk a bass boat in Lake George after a summer storm snuck up on us and the lake got nasty. No one was hurt and luckily more people were there so rescue was fast but that lake can turn on you fast. One of the scariest days of my life, could've been way worse. Glad you did ok and had a good time😉
Oh wow, yea it can get nasty
Thats my back yard. Palatka. River rat on that part of the St. Johns. You need to be on it in the summer. Its packed with boats at Silver Glenn
all those shells were crazy
There were quite a few! Pretty neat....
Another good one! Once you get bigger dont forget to visit you back wood small river roots.
Glad you enjoyed it Corbin! Oh I want forget ;)
New record: 0:03 seconds in and I hit like. 🤙🏻👍🏻
That-a-way Tyler! Thanks bud.
Absolutely phenomenal and beautiful sir! Glad to see your still living life too the fullest.
Thankya! Doing my best!
The baby manatee was smaller last time I was there, nice to see it healthy 👍
What town is by the area he was swimming with the manatees? What part of the river is that located?
@@269adventures Silver Glen Springs, they have a kayak launch and swimming aria. Head towards the island, Have fun 👍
@@perfectweather Thank you, I was just looking at the map along the John when you commented lol. All the springs around that area looks awesome. Think I’m gonna have to take a long vacation down there and explore all the springs and river. 👍🏻
Oh cool!
Usually their is tons of tilapia and mullet swimming around the top of the spring there. One of my favorites in florida
Was at lake George last week and saw some dead on the bottom but did not see many swimming around which was weird wonder if cold front might have got them. But saw tons of the huge mullet.
Hate I missed that....
Camera work at the first spring was amazing. As for the Captains Platter dinner.....id rather starve. Haaaa
Im really digging that boat. Having a Gheenoe before, this would make for something more enjoyable for me
I hear you! I would be starving before eating that!
Thanks Wade! Oh yea, the Cayo vs the Gheenoe is a big jump. But I still wish I had a gheenoe for certain trips.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that has a problem with those speed zone signs, everyone just goes whatever out there.
Yeah, it can be tricky and sometimes you miss them honestly.
Oh yeah. Nice video!
I've been running that section of the river, and all the creeks and backwaters for 30 years. Love it!
Thanks Tom, great area!
The launch ramp you left from is 2 minutes from my house!
Best you tuber out there keep up the amazing uploads 😁👍
Thanks Luke!! Will do!
Lots of fossils and Artifacts toward the mouth on the spoil islands..MY neck of the woods Atl bch ICW...
Where is this area? By what towns? Do you know where that manatee swim area is located?
Oh cool! CRUZA this is the St Johns River around Deland Florida.
Great vid! I did the same run a couple of years ago to Glenn Springs from that same landing in a jon boat during the summer. The spring was packed w boats and people! Keep up the good work!
Awsome video really cool to see
Glad you enjoyed it!
The water is 72 degrees like always. Lol
Trip Dip could’ve went really bad. Like trip quadriplegic dip!!! Be careful where you do that
wow,the ferry in the movie Dolores Claiborne was named after the book you were reading(Joshua Slocum)
Hey cool!!!
Probably I'm late to catching this boat, but I just realized something:
What you do is trips; you are a trip; and your name is Trip.
Now that's some serious synonymy. And very likely synchronicity.
Dude, how can you shrug-off swimming with manatees and just get underway ASAP!?
Cool adventure man, you crack me up with your rushed end of adventures closing segments!
My thoughts exactly
Well, it wasn't awe awesome as I'd thought. plus I was really cold! Heck I was cold before I got in the water.... If they would have been at the big spring pool it would have been different.
Gotta end them quick to keep people watching the whole thing ;)
Incredible Trip. Watching you is motivation when im at the gym.
Glad you enjoy it Brian. Push it bro!
Really like watching your videos I could watch every day thanks have fun and stay safe
Hey glad to hear that Alvin, thanks for the great comment!
I used to work at Bear Point Marina in Orange Beach and one of those cigarette racing boats came through to get gas one day. That was the baddest boat I've ever seen in my life! That sucker had to dragster Motors in it. It rattled the whole building.
They are slick....
Have you thought about sleeping on the floor of the boat and make a radius cover that would give you a lot of headroom and keep you off of the cover so no moisture gets on you or your sleeping blankets. Probably a great "no-see-um protection. Kind of like a Conestoga wagon effect.
Sweet I just did this from 520-Palaka back in November. Going back again soon.
By the way, lake George beat the crap out of my old low sider gheenoe.
Nice! haha I bet! I'm sure there are a few gheenoes sitting on the bottom there.
As a kid we use to load at the ramp just off I-4 and run all the way to Silver Glenn until they put all the no wake zones then it may for too long of a day run. Great video.
haha, yea there are a lot of no wakes....
yeww! love the adventures Trip!
Thanks LFT!
Really nice underwater shots in the springs. Makes me want to head up there to give it a try. Thanks.
Thankya, that spot was gorgeous! You're welcome.
Love your videos man!
Thanks Mike!
Get you a simple wetsuit top long sleeve -- it packs good and is well worth it! Something like that probably would of been perfect on that wet/windy crossing.
I have a vest top, but need to get the long sleeve like you said.... Thanks for the advice.
I can't believe that guy got your hopes up with the C Dory and then did that... That being said, I really enjoy your channel and the skiffs that you have. The smaller boats are more obtainable to a wider audience and shows that you don't need a big boat to have a bunch of fun!
Hey, he loves his boat ;) Yes, they are more obtainable and fun!!!!
Love the area. The place that was sagging looks like the old jungle Den motel restaurant and bar. Stayed there several times in the 90s. Great content.
It's awesome Roger. Oh cooL!!!!
Been waiting on you to take a trip on the St. John’s! You’re on my stomping ground! Awesome vid!
I had been waiting to for a while..... Thanks!!!!
My home waters ! That’s awsome love going to the silver glen in the summer
It's certainly an awesome spot. Great place to call home!
Wow, what an incredible experience swimming with those manatees. Dugong they are called here in Australia. I have seen them from a boat but never swam with them. What an experience.
It was a cool one!
Hey my neck of the woods lol, been to Everglades meets the gulf Beautiful
Excellent Video!
Thanks Dan!
I heard “my wife said you better buy it, and the response of we will see” and I got so sad, like how’d you go on a test drive and everything and then they say it’s not for sale??!?
Great vids tho, love seeing these adventures
Yea, hey he loves his boat, I totally get it lol But no worries, I found one!
Trip, I don’t know if you’ll see this or not but last weekend I did blackwater river from Bryant Bridge to Deaton Bridge and it was clear of deadfall. Water was a little high from the rain last week.
Ah cool! Thanks for the info!
Whether hedonism is a good or bad thing, I think, depends upon what your pleasure is and what your perspective is.
Simply desiring pleasure is surely not a bad thing. What else is meaningful in life except for happiness...
Although don't forget that happiness comes in many flavors.
Very true!
he said "that is off the chain! getcha some fatties!" hahaha
also, I could not pass up the grass/vegetation without casting some lures in there
Lol yea buddy! Didn't even bring my rod.... SHould have....
I live off the St. John’s river up in Jacksonville.
Yes unless otherwise noted Manatee zones are year-round.
Wow....
So your Pack Towel...I explored public lands, living outside for 6+ years, in Florida. This was all by hiking and bicycle. The boating part will be coming soon....but about my towel.
That six year period that I spent living outside full-time was ten years ago, but still, to this day, I carry a heavy and durable washcloth In my pocket, and I am never without it... EVEN AFTER LIVING INSIDE FOR 10 YEARS! WHY?
Because it was the most indispensable part of my gear by far. Wiping sweat is very important when it's really hot. If you don't do it, you feel like you have bugs crawling over you, and this feeling is progressive as the sweating increases. Without wiping, it will drive you crazy... literally. Then...
It's the best mosquito protection I've found when in high heat, if your vented tent hasn't been pitched yet. If it's cool outside, you can just cover up, but if it's 85° at night...like it can sometimes be in Central and South Florida, you can't cover up and be comfortable....so what do you do? You can wet your towel and swing it in a pattern across your upper body....your lower body is protected by being seated on the ground...that disturbs mosquito's flying patterns. When learned and practiced, you can sit on the ground, swing your towel, and no mosquito can't land on you 97% of the time.
Now, "Backwoods A/C". When you use your utility towel to wipe sweat, it gets salty. Salt water evaporates at a higher temperature that fresh water, and so it is easier to evaporate, which makes evaporating saltwater much more efficient for cooling than freshwater is. This is the basic premise that is used for making homemade ice cream with rock salt.
So when you swing your salt water soaked utility towel like a fan, to cool yourself...if you can swing it like a fan (takes practice)...the air is noticably cooler...like A/C.
This really works. Try it. After swinging your salt-soaked towel for awhile you can touch it and feel that it's cooler than ambient.
I'll never feel comfortable without my utility towel.
Great info! Thanks for sharing.
the ole flounder pounder seems to be a wet hull. maybe you do need a c-donkey!
Haha! Yes, she is wet when it's pretty rough but certainly better than my previous skiff and the Gheenoe. That C-dory would have been nice....
You know that Gators trend to climb logs on the water. Have you had one before trying to climb your skiff before? Hahaha 😉 I hope not.
Nah, I don't think they would. lol
Didn’t see any C-Dorys in “Trip Smith Tip-Top shape!”
Oh there were some... But I did see quite a bit of "stuff" on them. lol
Wish this channel would have stayed a kayaking channel and you maybe would have one for motored craft trips.
Yeah I don't think it would be a smart thing to have different channels for different types of adventures. It would probably make each of the channels less prevalent on RUclips and would get noticed less
at blue springs you cant get a boat near the spring, you park on the beach and walk about 1/4 mile down the creek and thats where all the manatees are divers go
Right, but they weren't even allowing swimmers in at this time.
Hey Trip, this is my neck of the woods! I'd like to snorkel but I have a beard. My wife and kids don't like it when I shave but I'd like to go in the water! I'm going to travel from this spot to the gulf side at Yankeetown fl.by way of the keys! 24' seaark
Ah, need to shave that joker! Hey that sounds like an adventure for sure!
@@TripSmith I attempted that adventure and my hull cracked coming from Marathon FL across and my boat went under in Marco Island. alls well though. Love your Cdory!
I went out on indian river lagoon last weekend and the wind had it choppy as heck.
It can get nasty I guess lol
I wish you would come do some Texas stuff when you had time but to be honest it's hard to find places that gorgeous here lol
That's kinda why I haven't ventured that way lol
That amount of chop is pretty normal for lake george. It can get much worse
It was pretty nasty that's for sure!
You got lucky when I go to silver glen it is packed
I did.... Bad weather and cool temps helped.
What are u doing to extend your kill switch wire to have it on your ankle?
Cant speak for Trip but I did something similar and used one of those coiling lanyard things. Think shape/springiness of an old landline telephone cord but made of elastic parachute chord like material.
I'm using a kayak paddle leash. It's great for that but this particular one is also super duper strong so I use them to tie things down and even to help hold the boat at anchor/docks sometimes. I highly suggest them, plus they are made in Alabama! amzn.to/3t8Xfi7
Love your channel. I'm interested in the Great Loop. Have you done or do you plan to do it?
Book reco- "Tinkerbelle," by Robert Manry-somewhat less idyllic then this adventure..
Used to live in Jacksonville Florida
Cool!
What size is that mercury? Awesome videos, thx for sharing!
Great vid brother what nav is that?
Why a C-Dory and not a Parker?
Oh I'd enjoy having a Parker.... But I have a handful of reasons why I went C-Dory. The price is half for the Dory. 8" draft vs 15" draft. Dory weighs 1,950 lbs and the parker weighs 3,520 lbs. I'd need a new truck to pull it.
Sellers remorse. Anyway - I like the skiff.
Ah, no fun lol I like her too!
Get sum trim tabs raise that bow and ride out
She has 'em ;)
Trip, hedonism is a great thing. Lmfao 🤦♀️
It just sounded..... not good lol
Great adventure! But, how in the world can you DRY shave??? I’ve got razor burn just watching you!
I donno lol I've done it a few other times. It's the hardest in salt water lol
I enjoy your videos, What brand boat is that?
Thanks James! That's a Cayo 173 ;)
C dory balsa core could be a major problem...
Could be.... But lots.of older boats were constructed that way. I've bought one and cruised hundreds of miles on her. Just finished a trip down around Anclote Key recently. Check out the video on my channel 👍🏼
@@TripSmith yes looks great, not trying to be adverse. Just had problems w/ that type of construction on a Pearson 36 ( decks balsa core) and a Sabre 30 ( balsa core decking) Also a J 22 transom totally wet.
Solution chk hull and deck w/ moisture meter.
@@rudbeckia885 Gotcha. Yea I had a Watkins 29 that had a couple small soft spots as well. Going into this boat, I was aware and did my best to investigate. So far things have been good.
How did you make your tiller handle extension? Looks like two separate size PVC?
Yea, it's a larger piece to fit around the handle then I reduced it down to a more comfortable size to grip. It's working now but some folks have told me they have been known to break suddenly while underway.....
What do you do for a living?
He’s a fireman
Yep, firefighter hoping to be able to do RUclips full time in a few more years.... Hustling... It's tough doing both and trying to grow.
Keep at it. U will get it
The live usually isn't very good quality. I like waiting for the recorded version.
Very true.
Where did you get your sandals from?
You mean my favorite gladiator sandals? I LOVE them.... they are my www.earthrunners.com/
Get trim tabs!!
Got 'em. I generally trim her up till she porpoises then back down a grunt.
Where's your boy? Hes gotta be getting old enough to partake: )
He is great and ready to go! The time is getting closer.
Hedonism...lol
Crazy what folks name their boats.....
What size cooler did u go with?
That's the 20 ;)
you launched about 10 mins from my house.
Oh cool!
What are the Coordinates to that location at 9:00 we would love to go
Look up Silver Glen Springs on Google Maps
Is there a purpose for the spikes on the front of the skiff?
Yes. He explained it in another video. Something about keeping lines organized and in place.
While fly fishing
Thats right, to keep fly fishing lines frrom blowing off the boat when fishing from the bow.
Wet ride
No doubt!
What grab bar do you have?
The one that came on the boat? I'm not really sure who makes it. ;)
@@TripSmith I like it, my wife and I just bought a 15ft aluminum boat and I want to drive standing up. Thanks for the entertainment.
Shaving like that? Nope. That's where I draw the line at how manly I'm willing to be lol.
Haha! I'm a fool at times ;)
New to your channel and this may have already been said, you should hook up with deermeatfordinner for an adventure
Well welcome to the channel! I would love to hook up with 'em! Mention it to them ;)
That big azz boat isn't any fun!
I bet it could be.... lol You think I couldn't have fun on it??? You crazy
@@TripSmith just a different kind of fun.
