Great video boys! I watched it twice and Matt was so much more comfortable with the Callaway. And hate to say it but he was swinging harder too. His gamer is the real deal for him.
Great video guys. I just got fit for a speedzone and gained 50 yards off the tee and dropped my spin by a couple thousand rpms. Keep up the good content.
Love that you guys prefaced with these are the longest ones for matt and how he swings. Just goes to show getting a good fit is the best. I tested everything under the sun during my driver fit. SIM was too fade biased for me, Cobra speedzone was not forgiving on my few misshits. Ended up with callaway Mavrik max and walked away with 290 carry and much more forgiving misshits.
Just put the Mavrik in play with exact settings that Matt has in this video with a HZRDUS T1100 6.5 65 gram shaft. In one round I noticed my drives were significantly longer (20+ yards) from where I would typically hit my TSi3 with the same shaft. It really is a beast.
Ian- I ended up taking a regular Mavrik due to the forgiveness, sent it off to have a professional company add hot melt more forward to lower the spin but still keep the forgiveness of the regular Mavrik. Also had them paint it all black which looks so cool. Anyway, I have the PIng LST, TS3, SIM, Sim Max (added hot melt to get the head weight up) and even the Mavrik SZ. The regular Mavrik with the hot melt moved forward is the longest and surprisingly top in forgiveness (Ping and Mavrik are about the same in forgiveness). Hitting driving distances from 10-15 years ago before my cancer and multiple surgeries. It’s a winner!
PXG PROTO my current gamer. It’s as long as anything. Wish it was in this test. I play it in a Tensei Pro Orange 60tx shaft. 15g in the toe weight. It’s long. It looks and sounds amazing. It’s anti hook and as long as anything.
Always enjoy the driver videos. My own experience is very different. Ian & Matt, I have tried almost all the 2020 drivers available through my golf shop. On every case I still don’t hit any of these as far as I hit my current driver (Taylormade Mini Driver). The only reason why, is spin. I simply haven’t been able to get the spin lower than 2700 rpm. Mini driver is consistently between 2100 & 2200 rpm. Have tried different shafts, lofts, lies and all other variables available, still to no avail. Let’s see what the 2021 range brings. Keep up the good content gents.
Fitted into SIM last week. Now Ian said this year model will go on sale soon and next year model will be better. Now I wonder if I make the right choice to purchase now
Love this content guys. Can you share more of the GC Quad data somewhere though? I feel like you guys usually control well for things like differences in club speed but it didn't seem like it in this video. For example, it looked like Matt's swings with the Cobra had chs around 121 but by the end of the video he was swinging consistently 125 or even 127 at times. I don't know if he loosened up as you kept going or what but from what I could see, none of the drivers seemed to have dramatically better efficiency but Matt was getting much higher ball speed and more distance as he swung faster and faster as the video went on. I would think you'd control for this in your evaluation but I'd love to just see more of the data from the session too. Either way, thanks for the video!
Not really meant to be a test to be honest, it's just to showcase the drivers that we've seen all year as being the longest from our testing and customer fittings. Normally we standardize everything if it's for a test video.
Love the work you guys put into these videos. I can’t imagine the time spent on these, thank you so much. That said, a lot of folks out there don’t have the swing speed that Matt does. I would like to see how some of these equipment comparisons stack up with a higher handicap player.
You guys strike the ball so well. Listening on headphones, and I don’t understand how the ball doesn’t go through the impact screen. New subscriber and love your videos
When you consider stock shaft offerings, I would put the Ping G410 with the Ping Tour Shaft in an X Flex as the top, off the shelf, Driver you can order; and personally, I would put the TS3, with the HZXDUS Smoke 6.5 as the #2 choice.
Ian is so right. I always talk about fairway finder, but all my buddies play from the black/tips. I just need 10 more yards!! There is a $799 shaft that’s gets me that and every day I think of buying it. I have been to the store and hit that shaft 12 times; the guy always asks me is this the day you are going to come to Jesus and ask the wife for forgiveness or permission
I am playing with the same 3 guys all the time, and the one who hits it longest - we always say to him after a long drive that he is handsome and hits it far and is so good in playing golf. It usually messes his game up
Question 1 - For us mere mortals who swing at around 100mph, would you expect the results to differ? I would assume at that swing speed the Mavrik Sub Zero wouldn't launch properly? Question 2 - The Cobra was the only one at 10.5 degrees and the others were all at around 9 degrees?
Awesome information as always. Do you all think the results would be similar with 140 mph ball speed? I'm on the east coast so complete fitting can be hard to come by.
Could you guys do a video review on custom clubs? Such as the ones from Golf Works where I can order all the materials, such as the shaft, head and grip and build myself. I think the brand name they use is called Maltby. I built a hybrid and I hit It pretty well, just not sure how It stacks compared to a brand name.
I'm a big fan. Especially the wedges. Get a fresh head every year for fresh grooves. I have built test clubs or a full set of all the irons. I think their fantastic. The woods were solid, but got beat out by a little by major oem's for me. Mostly in spin / launch, not as much in ball speed.
Amazing matt. Awsome hitting. Please do a video with Ian playing a driver. Think it would be cool to see the difference and how different equipment would affect. Great work guys
I do ! I do! Want to hit it longer 😄. TS3 has been great for me this year. M5 tour 8.0 head is what I use for lower spin. May give the Mavrik a try after seeing this one boys. Great video
Well this videos makes me want to reschedule my driver fit with the txg crew, I’ve been gaming a g410 lst and im totally in love with my driver. I was hoping to see if a shaft change could dial my driver in even more.
Man LST still holding it's own. If Ping can upgrade the 425 series to decouple launch and spin like Callaway and Taylormade have.... I think it will be nearly impossible to beat. Really looking forward to seeing the new Titleist stuff, too. First Titleist heads I've liked the looks of.
Got a question for you guys that alot of people are probably in the same boat. I struggle to see any difference in distance between 3 wood and driver. I love my taylormade M6 3 wood with proforce V2 in it. Hit around 280+ carry I can shape it and control ball flight I have spent hundreds trying to get a driver that does more than this. Is difficult trying to get custom fit in x stiff. swing speed 114mph with 3 wood Should I get driver shaft lengthened 🤔
I asked you how I could get more distance cause I'm an old fart (67) . You advise me to get fitted for a mavrik with a lite shaft. I'm waiting for it to come in. Excited!
Great review of the bombers, with a swing speed of between 96-101 mph what shaft would suit the Taylormade Sim driver as I love the head shape and I’ve bought it with the Diamana 60g Stiff shaft, I’ve bought this purely on the head shape and of course the reviews it gets and as I write this I’ve not hit it yet( sorry but it had too be done!) their are reasons why although I know it’s not the best way so hence I’m asking for some advice it’s in 9 degree i play off 6 sadly going up through age mainly (almost 62) I play at Northumberland GC where it’s normally windy and it’s a championship course back in the day but it’s a good test of golf, so any help would be great. Thank you in advance and maybe the standard shaft might be good enough too gain a few more yards and yes I do it fairways more than I miss!!!!
Great video guys. I have ok distance (swing at 110mph) but am a little wild to the right (right handed). Can you guys test the draw type drivers next please?
What would you say your swing effort is? (80%,90%, 100%?) If you are swinging above 90% maximum effort (the pros rarely exceed 80%), you'll very rarely come in on the correct plane and VERY rarely find the center of the club face. If you back off from maxed out swing speed, and focus on strike, your smash factor will go WAY up and your ball speed will actually be FASTER, Your side spin will be lower and you will hit WAY MORE fareways. Out of curiosity, how far do you carry a 7 iron? (What loft is your 7 iron as well...)
My Callaway BB Alpha 816 Double Black Diamond is the best driver I have owned. Not because of distance, beause of dispersion. I put the ball in play. I gamed the TS3 most of the season. Sure I hit soe bombs over 300 meter with it in the fairway. But in the end it was putting my balls out of play more often than not. I like the shape of the Alpha 816 DBD with the deep face.
Wow great video great drivers . I have taylormade R9 supertri driver 9.5 hosel in neutral . Toe 2gram weight heel 4gram and 6gram in back . Swing speed 115 mph carry 285yds spin 2800 launch 15 degs would putting lighter weight in back help?? Or putting heavier weights in front ?? I hit a nice straight ball.. would putting 8 toe 10 heel 2 back make a big difference in launch and spin ??
So the kicker is that with the mavrik sz is the front weight. If the ping or sim gets that front weight and is down at 9*, they’re the same driver almost. Looks like the cobra just doesn’t have the gear that the other few do...
Ping and Sim have a great advantage in heel and toe adjustability though, for some players that can actually make them hit the ball farther by getting more mass behind their strike or compensating for excess curvature
I have the sim and love the stability and heel toe weighting. On days when I’m tending to overcook some draws I slap that weight in the toe and straightens me out nicely 👌🏼 Super quick on ball speed to boot
Im still using a Taylormade SLDR with stock Speeder shaft, I hit it straight and about 280-290...my mind is always curious how many more yards I could squeak out with the newer tech. 🤔
I had that three drivers ago and honestly it's all fitting & ball. If you're getting optimal launch and spin with SLDR, none of these go any farther. I only got rid of mine because I couldn't keep it on the course. The main thing the new ones have is losing less ball speed on off-center hits. I'm hitting Mavrik Max turned down to 8 degrees with Ventus Blue and found that a very tip-stiff shaft eliminates the big downside of the forgiving head (too much spin). My best drives still aren't longer than with SLDR but my worst drives are way less bad.
@@canyonaro yeah I'm more interested in what a properly fit shaft could find me I guess is more of it as I do hit it straight and tend to find the sweet spot of the SLDR face, I'm the longest of the guys I play with who all have newer tech in the driver. 10 yards and I would be ecstatic to touch that 300 yard mark.
Try the Ventus, Raijin, & the VA Nemesys. All three are REALLY good. More innovation in shafts than heads right now. They're really stable so you should be able to go up 1/4" or 1/2" and get to that magic 300 number. Good luck!
Please do a review/comparison of the HZRDUS Smoke line. That'd be so helpful. There's no upcharge for them on TM clubs compared to the couple hundred dollars for shafts like Ventus. Edit: Great video as always btw. Matt is such a beast no matter what driver you put in his hands
Yes, please TXG! I asked this on the live chat yesterday, I play both the Smoke Black and Yellow and have heard real good things about them from my fitter friends but not much if anything on the channel. A new Smoke RDX comparison to Black/Yellow perhaps?
I'd heard (from a clubfitter that may or may not have been trying to sell me something) that the HZRDUS shafts that come standard aren't of the same quality as you would get from a dedicated clubfitter. Not sure if true or not?
@@333pg333 Debatable... the small batch shafts (which is what they were trying to sell) are more expensive and theoretically higher quality than the mass produced versions, but the specs are technically the same. I'd search aftermarket versus made-for shafts, there's some good stuff out there (including the TXG Ventus aftermarket versus stock video).
I remember 1 episode Matt talked about going through SWING CHANGES. Curious what they were and what effect did they have on distance accuracy consistency. Looks tour level in every way
Great vid gents. I own the honorable mention and its certainly no slouch! Best looking and performing driver I've hit in many years. Also, I could watch Matt stripe drives all day 😎
Brysonesque. You boys should play a round where you just bomb it off every tee(barring the par threes of course) to see how that style of play stacks up. Bryson probably has every one under the age of 25 swinging out of their shoes right now. The USGA Open set ups might have just been made obsolete by the mad scientist.
This was great. Almost a mini bracket all rolled into one with the Sneaky deaky freaky Mavriky just sneaking through at the end. But seriously, all are good drivers.
I watch your videos and they are terrific. Hoping you can explain this...I have been struggling with a Callaway Rogue so i was in my garage and noticed a 2009 TM Burner. So I put it in the bag and started using it. WOW, i have been hitting it great. Down the middle, and long. So I noticed a shop had a used TS2 with the Kuro Kage 10.5. So yesterday I demoed it...so the old technologu 2009 Burner just destroyed the TS2. The TS2 was low strikes while the Burner was striking high, long and straight. So why would a 10 year old driver just obliterate a current hyped 500 driver. It was no contest.
Hmm...you mentioned the efficiency of the cobra...1.39 or so...but the ping, TM and the maverik wasnt much better. Whats occuring to have such a difference in result?
Seemed to be a major clubhead speed difference between the Cobra SZ swings and the others. Looked like the other three drivers were getting ~3 MPH average faster swings. Was this due to the clubhead or was Matt just not as warm on the first swings?
Surprised Cobra SZ Extreme isn’t here instead of the standard SZ ? It made the bracket finals, no ? Could it be because this is a DISTANCE only test and forgiveness is not accounted for ?
I have a PING G400 and struggle with higher spin rates. Would changing the weight in the back, bottom of the head help lower this? Didn't know this was an issue until I got a Skytrak. I didn't know if there are more differences than just the back weight between the regular and the LST G400 drivers. Thanks again for the informative videos!
@@clubchampionmedia I have an M5 with Fuji Tour Spec 2.0 and hit it well but little high in spin. Checked out SIM using my shaft and can't seem to hit it. Curious why it wouldn't translate well.
hard to say, but no shaft is guaranteed to carry forward even when SIM is only one generation newer than M5. Differences in the characteristics of the head may mean that what suited that Fuji in M5 may not suit it in SIM
I was wondering if there was a longest for someone who hits it more off the toe or longest for someone who hits it more heel side? I know Matt often ref toe hits.
I currently play the Ping G30 with a hzrdus yellow x shaft. Are there other drivers that aren’t ping that may offer a similar level of pop in the face and face stability that my driver offers? If I were to upgrade would it be a good idea to heavily consider the new ping as a good option?
I don't understand Matt's swing. He hits it a hundred miles but there does not appear to be any "lag". Looks like pure rotation to create the speed. Any thoughts on this from anyone?
Would love to see a review on some of the personal launch monitors like rapsodo, PRGR, etc. Compare accuracy to your professional launch monitor
Yes! I’m in the market for one now and having difficulty evaluating the options.
Please, please, pretty please
Yes!!! Come on Ian and Matt. I can't afford GCquad, but I could swing a skytrak. Winter is coming, so please do the comparison
Great idea. 💡!!!!
Kyle Mo I think we already know how the results will come out: you get what you pay for. Get a GC2; I love mine!

What happened to fitting the tour edge exs pro driver? When you tested it you said you was going to test it against freaky deeky?? 🤔
I've seen it well. what kind of shaft did you use????
Please do a review/comparison of the HZRDUS Smoke line. That'd be so helpful. There's no upcharge for them on TM clubs compared to the couple hundred dollars for shafts like Ventus.
Edit: Great video as always btw. Matt is such a beast no matter what driver you put in his hands
Yes, please TXG! I asked this on the live chat yesterday, I play both the Smoke Black and Yellow and have heard real good things about them from my fitter friends but not much if anything on the channel. A new Smoke RDX comparison to Black/Yellow perhaps?
@@EricFryc I play the Smoke Green and it's been fantastic for me.
Looks tour level in every way
People say they don’t ...... you do 😂😂
Does anyone know when we can expect to see a price drop on the SIM?
Most likely when TM next driver drops :)
Cleveland High Bore XL new 2020 is the same as SIMS half the price check it out
When are you guys doing the AutoFlex shaft video?
Already filmed, will be out this week likely
@@clubchampionmedia awesome thanks
Great vid gents. I own the honorable mention and its certainly no slouch! Best looking and performing driver I've hit in many years. Also, I could watch Matt stripe drives all day 😎
How do you not hit into a flat range to take out the rollout variable? 🤷🏽♂️
Could you test the new srixon drivers
Brysonesque. You boys should play a round where you just bomb it off every tee(barring the par threes of course) to see how that style of play stacks up. Bryson probably has every one under the age of 25 swinging out of their shoes right now. The USGA Open set ups might have just been made obsolete by the mad scientist.
what are the white dots on all the clubs? is that for the monitor?
What month will 2021 models drop?
will there be a best of premium and budget ball?
Matt is a civilized beast
I'm more of a high toe hitter so which one do you think suits that? 1cm high, 1 cm in toe.
This was great. Almost a mini bracket all rolled into one with the Sneaky deaky freaky Mavriky just sneaking through at the end. But seriously, all are good drivers.
Curious why the cobra was about 10 mph slower in this test compared to your fitting video with it?
David Petryk swing speed was lower.
Be interesting to compare these to e.g. some offering from Krank or similar?
Would love to see a free agent/PGA tour player being fitted by Ian!
I’m a free agent, I’ll volunteer!
What kind of ball did you guys use? Great test!
We used the Srixon XV for this video
When I watched you hit the PXG Proto you hit it miles! Any consideration?
Hmm...you mentioned the efficiency of the cobra...1.39 or so...but the ping, TM and the maverik wasnt much better. Whats occuring to have such a difference in result?
He swung the other clubs much harder. 125+ and 9 degrees on the Cobra, and i'm pretty sure you would see 365+ there too.
Seemed to be a major clubhead speed difference between the Cobra SZ swings and the others. Looked like the other three drivers were getting ~3 MPH average faster swings. Was this due to the clubhead or was Matt just not as warm on the first swings?
Could be a bit of warm up effect, and/or how the launch monitor reads the different shaped/designed clubheads
Now that y’all have done several years of the “best in class” series, I’d love to see last years best vs this years best and see how it all compares
You guys got me excited for 2021! LoL...
Surprised Cobra SZ Extreme isn’t here instead of the standard SZ ? It made the bracket finals, no ? Could it be because this is a DISTANCE only test and forgiveness is not accounted for ?
Curious where the mizuno st200 would have ranked? Is it that much shorter?
I have a PING G400 and struggle with higher spin rates. Would changing the weight in the back, bottom of the head help lower this? Didn't know this was an issue until I got a Skytrak. I didn't know if there are more differences than just the back weight between the regular and the LST G400 drivers. Thanks again for the informative videos!
Did Matt use the same shaft throughout, or did ea driver have a shaft that fit ea head better?
yes same shaft for all, just wanted to keep it simple for this video
@@clubchampionmedia I have an M5 with Fuji Tour Spec 2.0 and hit it well but little high in spin. Checked out SIM using my shaft and can't seem to hit it. Curious why it wouldn't translate well.
hard to say, but no shaft is guaranteed to carry forward even when SIM is only one generation newer than M5. Differences in the characteristics of the head may mean that what suited that Fuji in M5 may not suit it in SIM
Great content as usual
Matty the Mad Bomber strikes again!
Father time didn't knock on my door. It kicked it in and then kicked my behind!
I can't help but think that the gamer that's especially fitted to Matty Is always going to win distance wise. Can't go wrong with any of these heads.
Cobra at an unfair advantage with the loft? (Or was that due to fit?)
Better fit for distance with that head, loft up but weight forward
I was wondering if there was a longest for someone who hits it more off the toe or longest for someone who hits it more heel side? I know Matt often ref toe hits.
I currently play the Ping G30 with a hzrdus yellow x shaft. Are there other drivers that aren’t ping that may offer a similar level of pop in the face and face stability that my driver offers? If I were to upgrade would it be a good idea to heavily consider the new ping as a good option?
The new Srixon driver looks super long
I don't understand Matt's swing. He hits it a hundred miles but there does not appear to be any "lag". Looks like pure rotation to create the speed. Any thoughts on this from anyone?
