John, as one of the few other competition entrants who actually wrote a song and played it on the guitar in their video, I think we need to look out for one another, so hitting the thumbs up!
Congratulations on your success. I would just like to make a point though. While the prizes were guitar orientated there was nothing in my view that said it had to be a guitar based piece. I write most of my songs as a singer /songwriter from the guitar with occasional keyboard and my Live performances in the care homes are Guitar singer based. Many years ago I was teaching a young student Glockenspiel and she progressed to play it in a School concert. I asked if her parents were coming and she said no because they were deaf. Horrified at such an exclusion I changed the format of the concert to include accompanying slide show and lyrics. The Local Deaf Society all came and we gave them front row seats. It was a great success and made me realize that slide shows, and subsequently accompanying videos as technology progressed would be of great benefit to the Deaf people and even Elderly with hearing difficulties. That is one of the reasons my Video included Visuals. As regarding going beyond the Guitar , I am also an arranger so it is a natural conclusion to arrange my piece with extra instrumentation . I was delighted to get in to the top 20 and win a £50 voucher and all along hoped the prizes would go to worthy causes, particularly as I do not have any personal need for extra equipment. In fact I need to start offloading some these days. LOL In the final analysis the competition had a fair mix of singer/songwriters , arrangers and Video makers. Had it have been a judging panel the song should have been the focus, not the presentation or performance and all the songs were good in their own way. Enjoy your new acquisition.
