Thanks so much for the video, I got mine fixed thanks to you. Took about 45 minutes, so frustrating, but I was determined not to throw it away and buy another! Came close a couple of times!
I compliment you on your infinite patience. A few weeks ago I tried doing this myself, got confused, angry, frustrated, drove me nutts. Ended up just buying another one.
I watched about three videos and I got so frustrated, I threw the whiteout aside. Now after about 2 months, I decided to go at it again and thanks to you my whiteout is as good as new!
Excellent video on fixing the Bic Whiteout. It was exactly what I was looking for. Also the link leading to a photo showing exactly where each part of the tape is supposed to go was most helpful. Thank you!
Just fixed mine thanks to your photo! It has a problem where the wheels won't turn, and I found out that I have to hold it where the logo is. Thanks for sharing this video!
My question is not for you. You are the man with infinite patience. My question is for all the companies that make this product. DIDNT THEY TEST IT AND SEE THAT IT DOESNT WORK? I am really embarrassed that I actually bought it more than ONCE! I am the dummy. But an optimist, so I guess thats whyI will buy a shitty product again, hoping they improved it.
Thanks Marshal…..you can learn something new everyday. My Dad cut the tape with a scissor and I was trying to figure out how to fix it and along came your video. Thanks again!
I’m going to be honest after watching him roll the white out on the two rolls I stopped watching and figured it out on my own. It’s very easy once you figure it out. I did watch over again and I did it different than he did. I got it working again that’s all that counts. Thanks for the video it was very helpful.
Ugh thank you. I've literally never been able to fix my white out until now. The video was a little blurry you were clear enough that I got it and could follow along.
Hahaha, my husband was trying to fix one of this and he can’t do that. I told him go to the RUclips and he told me I didn’t think there is a video about how to fix a whiteout. And wow!!! I am surprised that I found a video about it. RUclips has everything that you can imagine.
It’s 1:37pm and I’m supposed to be studying but this is where my ADHD has led me… 😅😂 thank you for helping me fix my whiteout tape that I randomly decided to pull apart
great video! really lets you see the patience required to fix this buck in a half item. only wish there was a close up on how the tape goes in the tip.
Best idea is to buy white out fluid, these tape reels are total bulls**t--I bought a two pack and neither worked. After 45 minutes of jacking with wheels and white sticky tape I figured my sanity and time are with more than the $5. Who the hell is in charge of QC at Bic.....
Agreed. It's a crap product not worth the money and definitely not the time to fix it if at all successful to do so. Just toss it and go white out fluid.
Stabilizing both wheels with fingers is essential. That's what I gleaned from watching your struggles, and I managed to reload mine pretty quickly. But the thing still doesn't work right because the take-up waste wheel isn't turning, just the top supply wheel. So the tape just loops out. There must be some mechanism between the wheels that locks them together so take-up and feed are equal, but they aren't locked or I wouldn't have been able to turn each separately to remove slack during the repair. Any advice as to how the large take-up wheel is supposed to turn would be appreciated.
It's been a long time since I made that video and I've only done one additional fix on the tape since then so I'm going with an educated guess here and I could be totally wrong but I think the take up the slack wheel turns at the same time as the dispenser wheel because it's sitting on top of it. The two are pressed together.
@@MarshallBLewis I finally took the wheels apart. They aren’t pressed together, but the top one has 3 plastic prongs that fit in a slot in the lower wheel, to provide tension between the wheels. It’s not enough; the waste wheel can slip and not turn. Especially if the straight guide post gets tacky from tape that didn’t go onto paper and that “contaminates” the device inside. That post is meant to guide slick, whiteout-free empty tape. Between drag at the post and the iffy wheel tension prongs, I couldn’t even get whiteout to strip off the tip. I finally tossed it. My old PaperMate brand has never given me any trouble.
@@hafcanadiana318Gotcha. Sometimes it's worth tossing something cheap than spending lots of time trying to fix it so it sounds like you made a good choice
My White Out tape wasn't twisted it was just pulled out too far but believe me I still cursed 🤬at the dang thing but what helped my sailor mouth was a nail file. I gently pried it open along the edges and which I also used the file to guide the oh so gentle tape around the tape guiders since tips of fingers just fumbles everything up and this way went smooth as butter. Id like to also suggest holding the top reel with fingers while using an eraser tip of a pencil to rotate the bottom reel.
thanks i tried. I have a noname white out dispenser from staples. i tried taping the rip together with sticky tape. it unravelled and went downhill from there. the tip piece also bounced off my table and have yet to find it. but listening to this was relaxing. you should do asmr videos :D
I have a broken correction tape holder that I want to fix and take some close up with my phone camera. Dilemma: how can I see if I'm pointing in the right direction if the camera is aimed down at my counter? Maybe I can livestream it 🤔 i guess I could just reverse the camera, duh 🤓
I wont be buying anymore of these. 4 of them did this. There is definately a flaw design that Bic needs to address and fix. I e-mailed them & let them know. If everyone started e-mailing them they would be forced to address this.
This is the worst. No-one should have to spend an hour trying to rewind white out tape, since you purchased the tape to save time whiting out. It’s not worth the time or money. Really a very bad product. My advice, nothing like the old fashioned way: bottle with brush and voila! Fixed. Rediculous!!!!
Bottle of white out dried out so fast that I thought this would be better. WRONG! I don't have the patience for that but was satisfied to leave a bad review on Amazon at least.
So, does the takeup tape (clear) go UNDER the little guide thing at the edge, and the white out tape goes through the guide? You may want to film this again, and mount the camera OVER the white out unit. It’s too far away to tell exactly what’s going on!
Here's a picture I just took myself to show exactly what you need photos.app.goo.gl/FiiWGQ9ngNBngifv6 as you can see in the picture, the new tape goes underneath the guide. the old (clear) tape goes on top of the guide. The new tape is on top above the red reel. The used clear tape is being wound around the red reel on the bottom.
well the video did,'t help, but right when u said which goes on the bottom and which goes on the top, i understood what i did wrong. i put whats supposed to be on top on the bottom and whats supposed to be on the bottom on the top. thanks!!
Don't know why mine failed after working for 6 months. Tried to fix but after 20 minutes gave it up and bought a new one. The new one was bad to the bone right out of the package. With this video i have a chance to fix it. Thanks Marshall would be more helpful if you shot a few top views. Shame on Bic. I'm going to look for liquid Wite Out, not as good but not fragile.
If I might add a few pointers to keep in mind that might make the job a wee bit easier: 1) The sticky part of the tape faces to the outside of the upper reel. 2) If you use your fingers on the outside of the upper reel, when you go to release the reel, the tape will stick to your fingers and pull out more tape. 3) The upper reel feeds OVER THE TOP OF THE UPPER OF THE 2 GUIDE PINS, that is, if you keep the bottom of the case oriented in the application position. 4) The unused tape from the upper reel goes on the underside of the guide piece (at the nose of the instrument), with the sticky part facing down (to apply to the paper). 5) The clear transparent used tape returns over the top of the guide piece at the nose and BETWEEN the 2 guide pins onto the bottom reel. 6) I found I could use a small plastic clip (like they sell in multi-colored 6 packs at Harbor Freight) if I applied the clip over the center post and then to the center of the bottom, to stabilize the reels while I was installing the guide piece and aligning the tape over the front application edge. 7) You can also take up slack by holding the top reel lightly in place while using a small screwdriver to rotate the bottom reel to pull in the used tape slack. 8) If the tape ends up twisted, you can remove both reels again, and rotate one of the reels to remove the kink in the twisted tape, without removing the guide piece.
What happened to the close up photo of the tape, you said you were going to add to the comments?

Thanks for your help - awesome shirt, too!!!
Mine was AFU right out of the package. Back to the store... will buy a different brand. Bic needs to address this!
Video was good although could easily be condensed. The close up pictures were what I really needed. Thanks for making the video (and taking pictures).
The time it takes to study how this thing goes back to working order makes this product unworthy of purchase. Thanks for putting up your video anyway.
