    👋 Hi. Greetings from Carl in New Zealand. Good haul of records. I cruise charity stores and manage to puck up some good finds. I like Joy Division , and i like their album Closer from 1980. I like the gargoyle cover of that REM record. Very good group too. I remember buying their debut album in 1983 titled Murmur.

      Greetings! Murmur is a great album! I talk about it on one of my videos, and share my thoughts on which pressings is the one to own. Thank you so much for watching and for your support! 🇳🇿

    What's a corner cut? What was your total purchase?

    • @VinylLatte
      @VinylLatte  2 месяца назад

      Hi there!
      A corner cut on a record typically refers to a small, diagonal cut or notch on one of the corners of the album cover. This was commonly done by record companies to designate albums as promotional copies, discounted items, or unsold stock that was returned to distributors. These marked albums were then often sold at a lower price. The corner cut doesn't affect the vinyl record itself, just the packaging.
      Typically, they are very noticeable, however with the ones I showed in the video, you can barely notice that they were corner cut. This was the first time I’ve seen them done in this fashion.
      We purchased other things at the store, so it’s hard to tell how much I’ve spent on just the records. If I had to guess, it was likely around $400-500. Could have been lower. We purchased some clothes and a couple items for the house and I’m not certain what they cost.
      Let me know if you need more information or have any other questions!

      Thank you for your quick response! I don't think I have ever seen one. In the "old" days, it was so exciting when someone bought a new album! We would read and "study" the album cover for hours! When my ex husband passed away, our grandson received all of his abums. It is so awesome that our grandson loves them, as we did. I am 72 years old and I am so grateful that I got to live thru the 60's! Thanks again for your reply and for your very interesting video! 🙂

      Thank you for sharing your story with me. I am so happy to hear that the records have been passed down and being enjoyed by the next generation in your family. So many people tossed their records in the 90's and early 2000's, and today, people sell them off to take advantage of the vinyl resurgence. I'm really hoping that one day I'll pass my collection down, and it will continued to be enjoyed for many generations well after I am gone.

    I suspect someone or this guy own a shrink wrap machine which reseals the the record.Technically illegal to have when vinyls were one were the first choice sold in record stores but wholesalers would use them to reseal returns or wrap damaged in transit. These here could not have survived their original shrink wrap w/out being re- shrunk to make set to sell.

      Hi 👋. I’ve cracked the seal on all them and they were indeed fresh, new records. As I mentioned in the video, I think some of these pop up shops in boutique stores aren’t really record stores, they are folks selling off their personal collection. Thus, they are not abused and likely been sitting cozily in a shelf for years before making its way to be sold.

      I worked for a record wholesaler back in the mid-1970s. We did indeed have a shrink wrap machine, but it was quite a large and heavy bit of machinery, not the kind of thing a private individual or even a record store would have. We would use it to reseal new records whose shrink wrap had been damaged. There was no need to shrink wrap returned records since it didn't matter to the record companies if they were opened. We simply boxed them up by company and shipped them back.

      The shrink wrap of the wholesale dept was a heavy industry type.Then the store was founded both retail and wholesale after the Depression I 1929.The returns I was referring were not
      the ones you sent back to the record stores although they did that also which btw each record had a limit how many could return and employed one person who basically all he did but the returns from customers where the original shrink was damaged or dirty.What I heard was to reshrink illegal was done was part of wholesale job is re- shrink the record so it could be made to look new and resold.Wasn't often but since the machinery which once was broken someone came in to fix.Basically part of it was a handheld hair dryer but they kept it as the place was old and probably couldn't buy one as it wasn't legal.The store Radio Doctors in Milwaukee,used to fill orders of vinyl,8tracks 45s for juke box jobbers and individuals in all types of music rock,claaical,jazz,country idie emerging styles etc. There was staff for all the depts and the store provided music for mostly all of the state of Wisconsin stores unless the store bought direct from the record company.Good Times!
