I used to be able to read sheet music. I played violin in high-school and anyone who plays in an orchestra can read sheet music, and even sightread to some extent. With guitar I would have to sit down and figure out where every note is.
In classical music the main reason why the musicians read music is because there are some very long concertos and they have many note changes. Many of them are almost impossible to be played by heart. In rock and metal it's not that difficult to remember the notes you have to play, because they are in a particular order. I play violin and I plan to learn guitar as a second instrument when I completely finish the violin lessons. And I'm saying that because although I can read music to play violin, I don't plan to use music reading at all to learn guitar.
@NickolasZannithakis not all rock and metal is Metallica or Pink Floyd! I'm gonna disagree with you since I can paly many classical music by heart much easier than jazz fusion and progressive metal.(of course there are many classical which are very difficult to). Classical players are good at reading music because they've thought to and they're supposed to, and there's other side of the coin which most of them suck at improvising.
@@pagman798 When you talk about classical music you're probably referring to classical pieces, which are really easy to play by heart. But classical music doesn't only have pieces, it also has concertos. The most concertos last around 10 minutes (some of them even last longer that 25 minutes) and they have many melody and rhythm transitions. Have you ever tried to play long concertos by heart?
@ third movement of "moonlight sonata" is the last thing I've played and I think it was about 7 minutes and I've to say it took some times to learn it mostly because it's not supposed to be played on guitars. I have played long (about 10 minutes) progressive metal music whit complex rhythm patterns, time signature changes, key changes and many many notes which was not easy to learn by heart at all ... I wasn't agree with you because of what you said about rock and metal.
One of the best things about the guitar is that you don't have to know how to read sheet music to play. Tab makes it so easy compared to other instruments.
He's just so adorably cute ❤❤
I love Kirk he is my favorite guitarist

@@pagman798metal wasn’t always like that though and not all metal is like that now.

That fan is fucking sick! The skydiving pic sealed the deal. Dude is metal as hell
How do you get a guitar player to stop playing? Put sheet music in front of them. 🥁
Time for Kirk to get lessons from Joe satriani again
Dude: "I can read tab." Kirk didn't get the joke.

Metallica enter sandman 😂😂😂😂
I never got it to the second language level, but if I must, I'll learn from sheet music. Sight-reading, if I must.
Used to,now spoiled by tech, tabs and lessons with tabs. Mini amps go anywhere.
Guys like Govan, DiMeola, Satch or Yngwie definately can read music. Not the same lever though
😃
