I've been watching the NFL for the last season, since it's been on TV only this year in Germany. So I have a quite good understanding of the rules by now but never got to the tactics or even simple formations like these. Thanks a lot!
I am just now going into my freshman year and I have only played football my 6th grade year. I really want a position on the team but I would like to be defense either LineBacker which I was when I played or Safety. I am around 5'8 I am in between 120-140 and I do have muscle what should I do to prepare for summer weights before they start tuesday
Hello DemonWake to help you prepare for this football season we have great football videos that could help you. Check out my website coachtube.com/courses/football or my channel. I hope this will help you become the player you want to be. Good Luck.
if you have good hands, and you are strong, be a tight end. You use your strength to block, and use your good hands when your sent out to receive a pass.
I know this was made a month ago, but man this reminds me of how adorable girls are! Offense you HAVE the ball DEFENSE youre trying to STOP the ball! This comment is soo funny, reminds me of never take a girl to a game! her - YAY WE SCORED A HOMERUN me - Wait, WHAT!?
what i dont understand is why do the hb's and fb stand a few yards away from the position they where in another formation or something..example in the split formation they where apart and in the "i" formation they were in line ..that doesnt change anything does it??.. whats the difrence cant they just stay right where they are always ..or stand behind the tight ends just to get a little more distance faster when running??
Pretty cool video until it got all "Football as a religion" toward the end. I mean pretty much any rigorous training in any field will be applicable to discipline in any other field. Football isn't a revelation.
Oh god I'm screwed! I have never played in my life and need to know the basics by morning! It's a girls flag football game, I'm athletic... but this is reminding me of long written math problems, I lost focus like 5 times. First tell me what Offense and defense are. I think I gathered that offense is the team that is trying to move the ball to a touch down, and defense is the opposition... I just need that confirmed. Not sure what part I'm playing, just going to show up and hope I don't ruin it!
wrong wrong wrong the WR on the rhs (right hand sidfe is actually a flanker and is or should actually line up in the backfield especially if the offensive teams plans on passing the ball.
have you ever heard professionals call it that? i've never heard that before. sorry sir but i think you should do a little research on what those positions are called.
did you notice that when the tailback tosses the ball forward it left his hands and was actually a forward pass? Then the player who caught it also threw a pass. The second pass is a penalty for an illegal forward pass. You can pass it backwards as many times as you want but forward only once.
That really depends on your team. I was 5'6" 165 and played middle linebacker, which is strange given my lack of size. I worked decent lurking in the middle of our cover 2 defense and on the extremely rare occasion that I was sent in on a blitz, I fit through very small gaps in the line. I hope that if you do play, you are played in a position more realistic of your size so you do not wind up without college options such as I did. Realistically, you will be playing safety, corner, or wide out.
good basic explanation, but he didn't mention that the offense is only allowed to have 7 players on the Line-of-Scrimmage and each Tackle must be covered by an End (Tight End or Split End)
@einherje71 You can only throw forward from behind the line of scrimmage once. You can throw the ball backwards (aka a "lateral") as many times as you want--although laterals are pretty rare anyway
Im in highschool 15 years old sophmore Im 5,9.5 Pretty fast and ok catcher i dont know any routes tho im good at playing MLB And defensive line what position should i play
Hey. Nice vid. Thanks. I'm from Europe and i dont understand all the rules. When a quarterback gets the ball, can he and his players pass the ball 10-15 times to eachother like in Rugby, or can he only throw one pass and then the attacker runs until he scores or get stopped?
Yes, because you snap the football. Also, if your team passes a lot then you can help point out blitzes and adjust blocking assignments. Being able to identify blitzers is very important. In the running game you create holes for your running back, if you don't then your offense probably won't do very well. Considering you're a center you might not be required to "pull" meaning be a lead blocker that paves a path for you running back. ***Remember that technique is important too.***
Sounds like you've got the basics to be a quarterback. Suggest you sign up for a local summer football camp and see as much you like football. Good luck.
It happens, I do it here and there, too. I was looking for more advanced football explanation videos but came across this and just wanted to defend and not discourage the people new to football.
This was an excellent video and deserves to be seen by more than the 70 thousand viewers. The description of the illustrations, the names of the players and position was clear, short and to the point without a great deal of elaboration. I highly recommend this video to anyone who enjoys watching football but cannot clearly understand what is going on on the field and the terminology. Thanks for posting.
Hey. Can someone please help me out? So I am 5'11" and 185 pounds. I'm 13 years old about to be 14 in September. I signed up for football already my dad is 6'4" and when he played at my age he played tight end. Can someone help me out by picking another position if I do not get to play this one? Thank you
Aura Splash Ok, since 5'11 is tall for 13 years old. (I'm 13 and 5'10) it's best to play tight end or quarterback, but it takes a bit of practice to play QB so I would go with TE.
I'm 5'9 200 pounds my coach has me at fullback I'm really quick I run a 5.0 on the forty and I have a 350 squat 330 bench and a 480 deadlift I'm the strongest on the team I'm just wondering if fullback is right for me
justin jardine u better get faster because ur not big enough to play o line but fullback sounds good for u and u don't have to be that fast to play fullback anyways
Thanks. Recently I just joined my high school 9th grade football team. First time playing on a team I play tight end. I some what knew what it was but not entirely. I didn't know any of the positions except QB and WR. Until I watched this video. That's what it was on the streets. Everyone is WR and corner and then one QB.

Dude was yawning at the end. Bored himself to sleep almost.

You spelled offense wrong. Bad start
My left ear loved it. Thanks

if you're playing on varsity, then you should know but corner back or wide receiver
@joeleecorreapineda Its like that so that the half back can follow the fullback. After the line the fullback is the main blocker for the halfback.
Ah any player cant pass the ball after the line of scrimmage right?
Can they pass many times behind the line of scr.?
yeah they are, technically a runningback is either a FB or HB, but usually you just call a halfback a running back
this came through 1 side of my headphones........HAHA
why did my pe teacher make me watch this i dont even play the game at all or dont like it >:(
I'm not sure I want to watch any more....I'm 1 second in and you can't even spell "Offense" correctly.
John Orlowski I'm dead
my left ear loves ur video : )
and its probably more sophisticated and smart than any other sport you've ever played!
this is wrong information. the running backs are not half backs or fullbacks
hey first of all its not called fullback its call 2back 3back and 4back :[
Im 15 5'10, 145 and run a 7.44 60 yard dash. What position should i play
Tight End
wrong wrong wrong the WR on the rhs (right hand sidfe is actually a flanker and is or should actually line up in the backfield especially if the offensive teams plans on passing the ball.
Well, it's obviously for people who are new to football...
I'm 12, 5'3" and is kinda slow but can throw a football, catch and can truck and stiff arm, what position should I play?
Why is the sound fucking Mono wtf dude
You just play it with your hand and why call football ?
I'm 15, 5"11, 209 what position should I play?
Depends on how much speed you have.
Is the center really important because I'm a center.
Good explanation. To me, Football is like Chess, complicated but once you understand it, it's fun to watch and play.
you need to get in the weight room ya fat boy
have you ever heard professionals call it that? i've never heard that before. sorry sir but i think you should do a little research on what those positions are called.
fml cuz only my right earbud is working properly
Go Potomac! And that's not how you spell offense
thank you for that . i am rugby coach and learning to become coach of this intersting sport... thank you for the tutorial..

im 6,5 over 200 lbs, in the 10th grade and this is my first year playing football.. I learned so much i was looking tooo lost in the practices.. lol
You didn't explain the Numbers of each position

I'm just freshman too and this helps me a lot i get frustrated and this helps me to relax
thanks Jerry =)
That's really cool of you to make a video for the parents so they can understand what's going on. I respect that.
Am 15 hight 510 150 pounds what postion
cause im not fallin asleep or anything
on my team is full back and tail back
this is her son it was cool
good basic explanation, but he didn't mention that the offense is only allowed to have 7 players on the Line-of-Scrimmage and each Tackle must be covered by an End (Tight End or Split End)
This really helped. My coach said I'd probably be the running back this year. This really helped me understand the purpose for the positions.
@einherje71 You can only throw forward from behind the line of scrimmage once. You can throw the ball backwards (aka a "lateral") as many times as you want--although laterals are pretty rare anyway
