- www.pmtonline.c... What we have here is the second generation of Roland V-Drums, a new generation with new technologies and additional functionality ... The Roland TD-9KX2 V-Tour electronic Drum Kit has several enhancements over the original model all of which will improve the playing experience and the realism of the drum sounds ...
The Roland TD-9KX2 benefits from a newly re-designed kick pad along with the addition of the new V-Cymbals and then of course there's the additional and upgraded sounds within the TD-9KX2's sound module. not forgetting that the sound module also contains a diverse range of backing tracks that the user can play along to rehearse different drumming and rhythm styles ..
The USB port on the top side of the module also means that WAV and MP3 files can be imported into the TD-9KX2's memory so you get to play along with your favourite tracks ... As far as the actual hardware is concerned there are PD-85BK and PD-105BK realistic feel mesh snare and tom heads plus the CY12C and CY13R new V-Cymbals, not forgetting of course the KD-9 cloth head kick pad and the expressive hi-hat VH-11 which mounts on a standard hi-hat stand ...All of which means an even better playing experience, upgraded sounds and improved features from the Roland TD-9KX2 ..
Many thanks to our very own Drew and Jack for some fine playing.

Man this feels like a long time ago
Just bought it second hand for a great price :) (Thanks o your recommendations on Instagram as well)
I just tried it at my local music store and i was blown away by the feel and sound of this awesome kit
If you think of it so that any sound can be assigned to any trigger, and then that the 2 extra trigger inputs are dual trigger, thats 4 triggers so thats either 4 mono sound pads or 2 dual triggers pads whether thats 2 dual trigger cymbals, 4 extra toms , 1 dual trigger cymbal and 2 fx sound pads etc etc. It's just a matter of using the correct cable i.e stereo to stereo or stereo to 2 mono's.
Hi, you simply need to connect the left and right audio jack outputs to 2 inputs on your soundcard. Set your software to record an audio stereo track from these 2 inputs and off you go...
If you don't have an audio interface yet then something like the Focusrite 2i2 is the sort of one that will work well.
@drummastikz Nope, it was possible to remove the drums because the music was being generated by the TD9 drum brain and there is a mute facility. You can't really do much to remove drums from pre recorded music.
@babayaga77 Yes, you can basically assign any individual sound to any trigger for example a cow bell to a tom rim or a percussion sound to a cymbal rim, anything anywhere.
@iiDynAmiCii Yes they are very very tough, our display demo ones get a hammering every day and we get no problems whatsoever. We stock the replacement mesh heads but very rarely sell one!
@nyanks15 For home practice a Roland PM10, keyboard amps or headphones. For a studio, use a pair of studio monitors works well or The PM10 or PM30 or keyboard amps or Bose or Mackie Ps's work very well. For Band practice, a PM30, wedge monitor, the bands PA system or a combination of both.
The best video of td9 u could find. Thank you for keeping it alive after all these years
just bought one , arrives this week cant wait
This is probably the best review i have ever seen!
Just got mine this week. Great kit! Ticks all the boxes. Thanx for the review.
You can do a factory reset to back to start position.
@mikeybleh You'll love it . Good Choice.
I got this a week ago, where I could have gotten the TD-15. I decided against it, and haven't looked back.
The TD-9 sounds amazing, has 90 preset kits, and got the fourth tom free from Guitar Center. It was on clearance, for $2000!!
@1997SAndrew you can add two more dual trigger pads with there own sound.you could also split the triggers and get the same sound on two pads.The ride has two leads running into it for the bell bow and edge. hope i helped
Thanks for the video. Could have touched on the set up for the dual 1/4" into the 13" ride. I bought the 15" ride with dual input and had to fool around with it to get it to work, but now I have a bell, body and put a crash on the rim of mine...going to play around with other kits with that cymbal and see what works best for voices on those kits with it, but it's great knowing that it can...cowbell, chimes, tympani and timbales...skies the limit. Cheers.
@DailyBeat97 As soon as we have one we'll get on it...
@keithyoungslash Not yet but its a question we asked Roland Japan and it is possible. Watch this space.....
@magicdicko We think so too:) xx
You sir give brilliant reviews! Very informative and fluent, exactly what I wanted, thanks :)
@3000jack however much you want it to be, you can tension the pads to the way you want them like a normal drumhead
Thx for a very informative, in-depth video. It was very helpful. I hope to be getting a 9kx2 very soon.
@Myrdred001 yep you can use the trigger inputs for additional pads
@edmondssax Check out at 18 mins for your answer...
Bought this kit about a month ago and it rocks! The mesh heads are amazing. They were a little slow at first, but I tightened them just as I would my acoustic heads and they are now very responsive. The TD-9KX2 is not totally silent, though. The base drum hits can be felt on the floor below, which could be a problem for drumming in a shared home/apt. There is a serious problem with the max volume level. I have it cranked to max level and I am wanting more volume. Great sounds/textures.
Very informative and detailed. Very looking forward to buying one.
@coro554 1.yes 2.no, it has a line in connection for an ipod or something else too 3. yes, that's a big part of what the line in connection is for
Wonderful review
SuperNatural sound, wireless recording using Roland wireless adapter, and a much better couch mode. The TD 11 sound module is the same as the TD 15 but without aux ports, there is not way to add more pads to the TD 11 sound module. However, knowing all this and more, yesterday I decided to buy the TD9 KX2S. There is a big reason for this and it is not the price. If you want to know my why I decided to get the previous sound module, let me know.
I Just bought one today in Brazil
@NevadaMusicUK cool, thanks
@rockychan1510 mess with the sensitivity. It usually helps if you increase it and bring threshold down to about 25%
yes, and the compact series 11KV as well, if.... : )
@LukesDrumsOnline - I know xD already bought the kit with a pair of Dixon pedals, and yeah it works perfectly.. thanks anyway though :)
Hi! Thanks, this was of great help! I have an Maudio fast-track already, which has only one 1/4" input, which in turn will only allow for a L/mono signal, Ithink.. I'll buy the Focusrite anyway as it looks like a great product in any regard.
Thanks again! :)
Does the module have in more input jacks for another tom/cymbal? and is there space on the rack to add a fourth tom?
Could you hook your iPod up to it? Or does it have to be a USB? Also can you listen to your own music and the drum out loud at the same time?
could you do a review this "in depth" about the new TD-30, i don't care if it's two hours long, if it would be as good as this review, id watch the whole thing, great review, this made this kit a serious option for my next kit
@guitbibble Oh woow. The only reason i would want TD-9K2 is for the 49 drum sets they add. so you are saying i can get those 49 drum sets for Td-9K? If i get a updated USB version 2? How would i do that?
Would it be okay to attach Dixon and Tama double bass pedals to this Roland set?? I've got a music store near me which has all the roland kits, but it says that the bass pedal is sold separately.. so do dixon and tama pedals fit with roland kits???
If you edit a preset kit, and forget what was originally do you lose it for ever? Is there a away of resetting the TD 9 brain back to factory settings?
I think he sounds like Ian Dury. Great review, by the way!
i can safely say this is the best online reveiw
What would you say that are the biggest differences beetwen a TD-9 module and a TD-11 and TD-15?
One thing want to ask, the hi-hat is not so good when I open then close it, how should I set it?
you'r review is perfect but i was looking further too more explications on how to use you'r usb key to put mp3youtube songs into the td9 it would really help if you could mention how it works ty :)
Does that mean you could also split the signal from a tom and use one channel for an extra cymbal instead of a rim effect?
How noticeable of a difference is there between this system and the supernatural sound system on the 15? Is the 15 worth the extra dough (both in playing and sound produced)?
Thanks for your time. Awesome review!
@pelsmann It can take any double pedal on the kit and it triggers perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for a great review! A few ?
TD-9KX2:
Can you reverse the entire set for a lefthanded player without any limitations?
What is the limit for expansion? Could you for instance add a PD-125 + PD-105 + CY-15R V-Cymbal + SPD-S + Octapad-SPD 30?
TD-12KX
You state the TD-12KX is a recent model. Has the module been updated recently and when was this? Does TD-12 sound module have 100 kits like the Td-9KX2 or still 50? Have you made s similar 12KX review and if so could you supply the link.
I'm borrowing a mates TD9 and loving it... IS MIDI IN/OUT the only way to send data to a Mac/PC? ie. can you use a USB cable from the top connection direct to PC or not? Cheers
Great review.
I'm interested in ordering an electronic kit next week to supplement my acoustic kit, but does the Roland TD-15KV replace the TD-9KX2? Also, can the USB port on either be connected to external recording software?
Thanks.
What kinda cable do I need to hook the sound module up to a PC directly?
what can be added to this kit. 1 can you add a cymbol and a 1 tom or just 1 cymbol
can we use the TD-9 to remove the drum sound from our mp3's like you did the in-built songs?
yep, it's got a 1/4 inch 'mix in' input
Also, can I take the snare drum off the rack and mount it on a snare stand?
I think you were mentioning depth of the shells but that's not what can be edited on this module, is it? I know the TD 12, 20, 30 can do that, can this TD 9 do it too? I haven't found it in the user manual and yet I don't have any.. Myone comes soon, as it's payed already but still I though I'd ask.
Is there any way i can wire my computer up to it so I can have music from that one? Cause I don't own all the songs I want to play along with, I use spotify now (I have the TD-4KX) and just have earplugs under the headset wired to the drum kit. Also, it is possible to buy an extra cymbal along and wire it up without unplugging any?
Hey, how do I transfer recordings from the module onto my laptop? Or can I record straight to laptop?
How can you do it ? you gotta go to the shop or you can do it by urself ?
what roland drum monitor would you suggest for td9kx2
I have those pedals :D
@guitbibble how much did u buy it for?
Guys I need a help. . I am trying to conect my TD9KX2 in to the heaper with no success. .. I bought the USB cable from roland but looks like there is no comunnication between the drums and the computer ( the red lamp is turned off )..please could you give me some tip? thanks
does the new cloth kick make the banging quieter than the old rubber kick?
Great Stuff. Thanks.
Is there a away to keep the hi-hat from spinning?
can this kit take the same beating as an acoustic one?
what about td-15 KV/K can you do a review that depth for this drum too.
i would be much appreciated!! sry the english ;)
Does this set have a 3.5" input for an iPod or something?
does rim shots work on this drum?
yes it does mean that exactly :D
Great review of a great kit! I've had it for a couple of years, and now that I'm starting to want to record my sessions to my computer, I have one question:
What do I need for cables and external audio interfaces to be able to record to my pc like you must have done when playing here (assuming you didn't use mics)
I am in dire need of an answer to this, so please reply.
pelsmann You will need:
1. An audio interface, which is basically a bridge between your instruments and your computer. It has 1/4 inch inputs, as well as XLR and MIDI. It connects to your computer through USB or Firewire or other.
2. A Digital Audio Workstation. This allows you to record your music. I use Cubase 8, and I like it a lot. I like it because it has a score editor, so if you use a MIDI or VST instrument it shows you exactly what you played on a music staff. Really cool program, highly recommend. Others include Protools and Ableton.
It's 3 years late, but I hope this helped!
how loud is this without headphones or an amp, because i live in an apartment complex
They are just selling the product. Naturally they will hype the thing. I find e-drums usefull tools for creativity and to record more easely. I for instance record my drums with mics and triggers, and then mix both samples in order to achieve a more pleasant sound recordings, since i don't have a lot of cash to buy a good set of mics and rent a good studio with fine acoustic treatment. Its just how you use that same tool, its like the guitars, and the hype arround them.
What is the name of the song played at 22:20?
@rockychan1510 Yep, sure do.
@milad19 thanks man
What was the kit at 3:10
I may buy a used one of these for a good price, how would you say they stand the test of time /usage?
Mcufre Late reply but the pads usually last around 2 years. More or less depending on usage. The mesh pads I've had for 4 years they really hold their own. The cables leading to the symbols are the main thing you'd need to worry about as they can wear down and not give a strong signal or even not one at all. They're only replaceable through Roland's site via the website.
@pearljamrock It's preety cool, I have it in my home now, it sounds nice.
Sorry I am trying to get MIDI signal. ..thanks
I wish electronic drums where more affordable.
ALGUEM TEM UM BACKUP ACUSTIC PARA COMPARTILHAR
@Ktmpow3r Pearl Demon Drive Pedals
Found one in great condition belive it or not next to a dumpster. What luck.
@NevadaMusicUK yeah i can second that, they last ages, especially the mesh heads. Very heavy duty. I was torn between the td9 kx2 and the yamaha dtx700, unfortunately for roland the yamaha wins hands down. The snares sound so artificial on this, worse than st anger! yamaha kits sound so much better and the silicone heads are unbelievabley better than the mesh. Goodbye roland td3, hello dtx 700!
Can the Roland TD-9KX2 V Drum do cymbal rolls?
תותך
@iiDynAmiCii can take even harder
Dude... Seriously?! Lol you are stating the obvious. You will never get the feel of a acoustic guitar on a e-guitar, or the feel of a grand piano on a MIDI keyboard. Of course they try to make the kits more familiar to drummers, because of people that stick only to acoustics. I have both a acoustic and a electric. And they are diferent breeds. I also play guitar, and the feeling is the same when you jump from a acoustic to a e-guitar.
One thing want to ask, the hi-hat is not so good when I open then close it, how should I set it?
