It's really cool that you're tuning in all the way from France, thanks for watching our work! I'm glad we have the blessing of a mechanic like yourself that works on these chassis' often ❤
nice build! back in the 90s a client and now close friend of mine bought a r5 turbo 2 , i did all work, service and mods on it, and became the go to guy for r5 turbos in the north east. he ended up acquiring the spare backup car r5 turbo 2 imsa gtu car. as the first was crashed killing the driver and renault retired the platform from imsa. the result of that accident was the thing that brought the hans device neck restraint to life. pretty cool cars.
Thank you!! That's really cool, they're great cars to work on and it sounds like you've got a passion for the chassis. That's unfortunate, but at least some good came out of the accident; cool bit of history ❤
Your fabrication guy is an artist, guru and legend. Love that exhaust. I’d hang it up on the wall, great peice of art. ( no pun intended ) . Can’t wait to see the R5 finished and running. I’d love one of those exhaust for my R16TS
That's a huge compliment, we'll definitely pass it down to Max! I can't wait to hear this thing fire up with this exhaust setup on it ❤ We're doing all the plumbing now, it won't be long until the engine goes down to Texas for a full rebuild 👍
This video just popped up in my suggestions. I will follow the project with great interest. I'm a little envious of the project since here in Spain we can't even change the intake and I'm stuck with my 55hp 1.2GTL, but hey, it's still lots of fun.
Thank you for tuning in and watching this build all the way from Spain! Some of the most fun cars we've ever driven have been low power, low weight vehicles like your GTL, so no shame in that ❤we're excited to show you this R5 coming together!
I remember Art from his grimmspeed days i was following closely the 22b build he was part of and was sad to see it scrapped then he started a channel and it didn't move but i am happy to see him continue somewhere else
That's really cool that you remember me from back then; two years has flown by! Yaaah, it was just poor timing on that build and the company getting bought/restructured. Now I get to film multiple builds each week and showcase the content for a much broader audience; thanks for tuning in and supporting!! -Art
Hello guys, nice work, really. I think one of our best tunner in France, for old renault turbo is GR-MOTORS, his knowledge on this car is just fucking awesome, you could find the youtube channel easily if needed ;)
Discovered your channel yesterday or so, just binged the whole R5 serie, I gotta say I dig it a lot. Amazing owner, his passion is showing everytime he's on camera, and you guys' work is absolutely top notch too. Here in France there are a few Turbo and Turbo 2 mocked up to look like a Maxi, and some full on proto builds started with base R5 chassis and fully converted but often the work was not done as extensively, beatifully and mainly not "period correctly". Keep it up, this is amazing to follow. Hope the ultra modern components such as the electronic turbo gate won't get too much in the way of how a Maxi drove with its quirks and period specific lag with a weird power band, its part of the fun! Also check this car's most famous pilot, Jean Ragnotti, guy is a legend. He's known for doing 360s in competition whenever he could, was the stunt pilot for the Renault Motor Shows doing some gymkhanas with whatever they had, sometimes F1s, I swear dude is an icon. He stopped his WRC career because he thought the cars were not fun anymore at the time with the developpement of the diverse driver assists we know are used to.
That's really awesome to hear, I'm glad we've got a lot of episodes in this series so far and that you could spend some time enjoying them all! You're absolutely right, it's the perfect combination between a diehard enthusiast and a team of skilled Fabricators ❤ That's some great info, we appreciate you sharing as we're also learning about the history of this platform. I think the direction the owner of this build is going, means it will be the best of all worlds when complete, a big dose of history and enough upgraded/modern components to make it safe, reliable and an absolute riot to drive!
First time viewer of your channel. This just popped up in my feed, love this kind of content. I have been a SS fabricator for the last 9 years and can appreciate the work that's gone into the Turbo system. You just got yourself a new sub 👍
That's really great to hear, FINALLY the RUclips algorithm doing its job and connecting us to the exact kind of viewers we make this content for. Thanks for the support Stevo!
There are so many custom fabricated parts for this vehicle because the owner wanted to modernize as much of the setup at possible, while still staying true to the feel of the original. We can't wait to showcase the finished product!
Because of how rare these cars are, there are virtually no aftermarket parts to choose from, so everything needs to be made from scratch. Luckily that's exactly what we're good at!
Given how compact this entire exhaust setup is, we don't foresee this being an inefficiency point. Most fresh air anti-lag systems we've researched and dealt with in the past are set up very similar.
I’m a car mechanic in France , work on that same old car … and just one thing , you and your team are Awesome !

Patience + anti-lag? Say less. Instant like.
😎😎😎
That is such a cool anti lag system. Combined with the E-gates that is such a sweet system!!
Absolutely! Always great when a customer let's us run wild with the design. Can't wait to hear this thing rip around ❤
@@patiencemetalfab That’s going to be so sweet! I’m dreaming of a system like this for a k24 swapped e30…
@@jeffreycoppensjr4728 Definitely! That would be a killer set up for an e30, and I think you just committed to making it happen...

Ayyyyyyyyyy someone who actually knows what antilag is and how it works 👍👍👍👍 antilag ≠ rev limiter on a button
Yessir, not only do we know how it works, but we can also fabrication it from scratch. That's what being a real fabrication shop is all about!

Are you measuring lengths of runners? And if so how are you calculating them?
Given the relatively small size/simplicity of this particular header, Max can eyeball equivalent runner length pretty accurately while fabricating it.
It looks like it will sound like the gates of hell have opened. Hahaha looks awesome.
Haha! We hope so, this little rally legend was meant to scream 😈
Just a question. Why 90 degrees to the primaries? You get better response with it more angled towards the exhaust pulse

Spaghetti monster was born to eat turbos

ha ha easy like that when the engine is in the trunk

Why do you look a bit like Nikki Lauder?
Never heard that one before, but I'll choose to take it as a compliment, haha.
