You mentioned at the end of the video that the Kindle allowed you to be the reader you always wanted to be. I got my first kindle this year, and I will say the kindle has allowed me to be the reader I didn't know I could be. I am on track to read 70 books this year. I don't know if I have read 70 books combined before this year.

Ok, so it´s an old video, but I still wanted to tell you I really enjoyed it. I got my first e-reader as a birthday present this summer. I loved it, but it was locked to a streaming service for e-books and audiobooks. I wanted to get access to any book this way so I got my first Kindle, the Paperwhite. The paperwhite is excellent but I was missing the tactile buttons and the possibility to get a warmer light in the nighttime, and it´s sometimes a bit slow.
I did some research and moaned about the price, but a couple of days go I eventually got the Oasis. I´ll still use the paperwhite for commutes and travel but the Oasis is just ... lovely. I´m so happy about the device that I went looking for others to share this joy with. That is how I found this video. Thank you!

When you said it "allowed you to be the reader you always wanted to be".. I was sold from that point on. Lol I've never had a Kindle, & always wanted one because I'm a professional bookworm. Haha My fiancé is buying one for me for my birthday next month, & I've been doing endless research on them. Thank you for helping me make my mind up! 🙂

Excellent review! I love the OASIS too. I've had various kindle readers over the years. You showed me something new. I didn't realize I could
adjust the font size by just sliding my finger across the page.. I've been fumbling with the little slider all this time. Thanks.
I ordered a new, 10th Gen 32GB Oasis on Amazon Prime. After a trade in allowance and a discount I'm paying $135.00.
You might want to try one of the new Oasis covers. It fits the 9th and 10th Gen Oasis. Doesn't fall off like the magnetic one.
Amazon's is high ($60) but they sell a second party one made by CaseBot that's leather lined and only $20. I bought one and it fits
my 9th Gen Oasis like a glove. You could ditch that bag.

Strangely, as I am, I bought the case before ordering my new Kindle oasis; my first; have been so upset about reading on iPad for years.

This is such a good review. I recently bought the paperwhite on prime deal day and I have to wait over a month to get it delivered but after watching this I’m considering cancelling my order and getting the Oasis. Subscribed to your channel.

80 and started 2007 on Palm PDA, followed by Cybook e-ink, since public libraries were slowly offering e-book downloads which remain my #1 source, added the Oasis 12-7-2020 (592 pages x 8 per page) currently 4,700+ on my newest Kindle device.

I just bought the 32g w cellular and no ads for prime day. I’d been putting it off for 3 years but I said screw it just do it. I’d say it’s worth the money because I think of all the money I spend Willy nilly and get nothing from. This gift to my self is a gift that will give back depending what I choose to read. At least with the oasis we won’t be encumbered by the quality of the reader😉it’s gonna be great 👍👌🤙

Immersion is not on ebooks due to the limitations of e-ink. I wouldn't expect that to be added to the ebook readers barring a change to the tech.

I picked up a Kobo Forma e-reader today, because I wanted to access library books (Overdrive only works in US, and I'm in Canada). Sadly, I'm getting a lot of lighting inconsistency between the left & right sides of the screen, and it drives me crazy. Thinking of returning the Kobo & getting the Kindle Oasis instead, hopefully it will have a better lighting consistency.
You're going to find that the Oasis vs the Kobo Forma is really no contest. Best of luck to you. Let me know what you decide!
@@onemanbookclub2585 I exchanged the Kobo 3 times and found inconsistent lighting on all of them (drove me crazy), so I returned it & gave up on it. Just ordered the Kindle Oasis (used your amazon referral code because why not) - excited to get the best e-reader on the market. The kindle services in Canada are very limited (no Overdrive, no audiobook integration, no Prime benefits for kindle, no trade-ins) - but the Oasis device seems to be the best quality hardware & lighting, best comfort, and give the best reading experience even despite the above drawbacks in Canada. Thanks for your video, loved this review by the way. Looking forward to have this help me be the "reader I've always wanted to be" :)

I love mine, BUT it doesn't have a Sleep Timer for the audiobooks. I listen to books at bedtime and couldn't envisage that Amazon would produce a top-of-the-range device, touting the ability to listen to audio, yet have no timer.
Every other device I have, iPod, iPad and iPhone, the Audible app has a timer.
Major fail on Amazon's behalf.
Interesting perspective! I prefer listening to audiobooks on the Kindle app anyway because the immersion reading is most important to me. But curious why they'd leave off a simple feature like that from the Oasis. It's definitely a premier eReader first!
Deliberate design. Amazon doesn’t want you to ‘time out’ your reading- if you’re enjoying reading you’ll read more (and buy more books).

What models do you need to be able to do the “dictionary” search function? And similarly what models for the xray function?
Hi Ken, thanks for the question. I'm actually not sure what you mean by "models." To use the dictionary, you'll need to download a dictionary--it's preloaded into your kindle cloud account. X Ray will work automatically. Is that what you're trying to figure out?

Ah...models of Kindle! So sorry, that makes perfect sense! Yep, those features are available on all Kindle eReaders, as well as all Kindle android and ios apps.

Hi! You can set up a family library via your Amazon account. Look for "Manage your content and devices" then select "Preferences" across top. You'll see a section for managing your family library there, 3rd from the top.
i read light novels and books since i was 16 years old so 5 years, now i finally decided to buy a kindle and i am so excited about it 🤣 I choose the kindle paperwhite for now to see how it goes but is it possible to read light novels on the internet without downloading them ?
Awesome, you're going to love it! Not exactly sure what you're looking for regarding downloading from the internet... Maybe ask your question in a different way? You do have to download the books to read them, but you only need to download what you want access too. The rest are stored an the cloud.
@@onemanbookclub2585 usually i read on my tablet or my smartphone on websites. I hoped that it's possible to read on the website directly but it is no big problem i just need to convert it to a pdf or download the existing pdf, i will write a comment again after i get my kindle thx.
I had one of those models and threw it away and bought Kobo Libra. I couldnt read one book before charging. Battery lasted 4 hours per charge now I can read 3 books per charge on kobo
Thanks for the comment! I hope you didn't really throw it away! A basic Kindle Oasis is $250! If you experienced that kind of battery life you had a bad unit...you should be able to read for days, not hours! Remember, Amazon customer service is super easy to work with, so don't throw out your investment until you've gotten resolution from them! Glad you found success with the Libra. Happy Reading!
That’s interesting to hear. Does sound like you had a faulty device. I charge my oasis maybe every 3 days or so and read quite often on it. Even during Thanksgiving break when I was reading 6-8 hours a day, I still only charged it maybe twice that week.
So you threw a faulty device away because you were too dumb to know how it worked.
@@DanaTheInsane Dont make dumb statements about people you dont know. It would cost the price of a new Kindle to send back to Amazon from here. The new one works better but still cant read entire book before charching. I have had Kindles from first ones to latest. Kobo Forma can read 3 books before charging
You answered my question will the Oasis audio let me follow along word by word. Your answer was no. Will any newer model have this feature? I currently have a 2013 Paperwhite and want to upgrade. I am learning Spanish and thought audio might help me. Thank you for the review.
Immersive reading, which is what Amazon calls the feature you are describing, is my number 1 request for Amazon to incorporate into their Kindle eReaders. I've never heard or read anything that suggests this will be something we can expect in the future either, sadly. But all is not lost! The great news is that this feature IS available via the Kindle app on any smartphone or tablet. If you own the Kindle eBook AND the Audible audiobook, you can follow along as the words in the book highlight while the audiobook reads to you. It's excellent for learning a new language and for young readers who need help improving reading comprehension.

Thank you so much for answering this question! I’d been in market for Oasis for about a year & have been searching internet, & even asked Best Buy store employees, for the answer. Now I have confidence to make my purchase. I’ll just continue to use my smart phone for audio with the Oasis e-reader when I want to utilize printed word & audio format simultaneously (which helps me speed up audio without losing comprehension/retention). And, I’ll still have the convenience of also switching between formats using either device, depending on activity, & everything will sync. Having ultimate flexibility helps me read far more books each year.
is audible really free with amazon prime?

I find the Oasis too slippery/slick without a case. Why recommendations? How do you "handle" it?
Hey there! Thanks for the comment. I'm certain there are a wide range of experiences, and for sure you aren't the only one who finds the metal casing slippery. Personally I haven't experienced that. I actually find it's very easy and comfortable to hold on to...easier than holding onto a tradional book, in fact. Also, as you pointed out a case might solve the problem. I would also recommend you find a retail outlet or a friend with one so you can try it out for yourself before you purchase if that's a concern. Good luck! I removed the cover to try it out for a while, and I'm getting to really like sans cover. I switched the buttons so that the bottom one advances the page. That way I can hold it with one hand, providing support at the bottom while being able to easily click with my right thumb. Also, the fact that I can trade hands and still advance the page with the same grip is fantastic.

Is the cellular function worth it?
I think it's worth it, but it's certainly optional. I've used it many times to download books when there is no wifi available, plus it's nice to not have to worry about connecting to wifi in places like airports or restaurants. If you don't have the mobile data option you just have to plan ahead and be more conscientious of your plans.
It’s worth it that’s why I won’t let go of my kindle Paperwhite 7th gen 2015 model. It has 3g and I don’t have to worry about wifi if I want to download a book from the kindle store. I could still upgrade but for now it’s too expensive for the new 4g lte model and my kindle works fine, maybe in the future I’ll upgrade. 🙂

I do not. You can pay a bit extra to keep the ads off...
Why are there kindle oasis with different prices?

Only black and white?
Yep. Today, Kindle eReaders are only black and white. There is tech out there for color e-ink, but it's not quite ready for prime time. Hopefully one day!

Does it have a backlight?
It sure does! The screen has a perfect, gentle glow that self-adjusts for any lighting situation... Bright sunlight or pitch dark. It has several lights around the edges - - 12 if I remember right - - so the lighting is even across the entire screen. No dark spots. Read at noon or the middle of the night, perfectly.

Yes, agreed but it's relative. I use my Oasis heavily every day and charge it once a week, or maybe every 5 days or so. Other kindles I've had can last for a month. Tablets/phones have to charged daily. Every 5 days isn't so bad! I suspect it's because of the lit screen + the cellular connection.

Have you noticed any "ghosting" of text or images when you switch pages? I just got a Kindle Oasis TODAY and I can see shadows of text, scroll bars from menus, cover images, etc from previously viewed pages. 😭
That has happened before to me, but it's rare. It's also very faint and resolves itself quickly. It's never been a concern. If it's happening to yuu frequently I'd talk to Amazon ASAP! They've always been good a out resolving my concerns. Good luck! So sorry that is happening 😔

Can I ask what size font do you use while reading ?? And font style ?
I usually read around size 4 font. When I'm exercising or something I bump it up to 12. My fav don't is Open Dyslexic.

I love the feel of this kindle but will not purchase it until they can put color in it like the fire. My reading is much faster on a kindle because of being able to change the font size and the shorter width.
It will be cool when they are able to incorporate technology that allows for colored e-ink. Amazon Kindles only use black and white e-ink today, but the tech is out there and being developed. I'm sure when it's right Amazon will incorporate it. I've read a lot on both a dedicated Kindle eReader and on a Kindle Fire, and I can say the benefit of the Kindle e-reader is that reading the e-ink display is SO much easier on they eyes than reading on a screen. When Kindle eReaders get a color e-ink display, I'll be first in line! Happy Reading!

Yep, the app is in color. But the e-ink display's found on dedicated e-readers are only available in black and white.

There is. It will feature the ability to change the color of your page from white to sepia or green, which some find to be easier to read. Are you planning on getting the newest version?

@@elizabethdavis5637 Back when I reviewed the Oasis, the 10th Gen was only a twinkle in Amazon's eye. I can't remember the exact circumstance when I answered that question a couple of years ago, but there was likely some speculation in the community that the Oasis would have those screen colors as an option. Obviously, that didn't happen. Instead it features a warm light adjustment for more comfortable evening/low light reading--which is actually a much better feature!
