I was just feeling that overwhelming feeling of not being good enough lastnight. This was very well timed for me.
One of all time greatest Artist diatribes in the history of RUclips. Ahem, in my humble opinion...
that mountain and these tiny hands.. thanks for the tips Trent.
This was really helpful. At the moment I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone so I've been doing work that's 100% different from what I'm used to do and it can be frustrating. Maybe I'll just do as you said and see how that works!
I like how the last part was just "go you god dammit GO!!!!!"
thnks trent for all of your kindness .... you are my favourit artist man
thank for yoU'r great words, always help us to stay focus in our dreams to be artist... cheers from the country of panamá.
This drawing was so done like half way for me.... then you kept going and I was like dammit I need to up my art game 10 fold and stop being lazy and pull the trigger.
Embrace the challenge! I look at artists who do more detail than me and feel the same way.
going trough something like this right now.
Next time I will feel anxious and underestimated because all those algorithms are not allowing artists to get their audience, I will listen to this video again and again! Thanks, Trent!
Trent: "I see these awesome artists and wonder how am I going to live up to that?"
Me: "Whaaaat???!!!"
I needed to hear this today, thank you Trent.
I've been watching your videos lately, they're always entertaining and useful, I feel inspired and I'm drawing a lot these days, but THIS, this gave me peace 😌 thanks!!
You are so awesome Trent. Needed this today. Thanks!
I love this. Hearing someone talk about some of the things I'm experiencing with being demoralised while drawing a master peice, it certainly makes it feel better.
And yeah, I should stop trying to work myself to death. I write a whole comic about an over worked girl who has to stubbenly admit she needs a break and I didn't even realise how much I related to my own character
Thank you, I needed this
That looks so cool I didn’t see the painting video of that! 😇💚
I needed to hear this today
What’s your meditation technique? I’ve listened to videos or music but now I’m just taking time to concentrate on not concentrating lol. It’s very helpful for me.
Question related to comics. So you do character sheets with various expressions, turn around etc. but is there any preparation for environments? Like an interior, house, etc.
I’m excited for Creed ^^ I also love all the Twitter stuff you’ve been posting. Always interesting to see on my feed.
Ive been using the "Calm" App for meditation. For environments I usually block out locations in 3d or keep reference for that location in a second window WHILE I'm doing the art. Very important!
Interesting metaphors, but inspiring nonetheless !
I'm trying to transition from r34 to being a good art student, feels rough going from the reactionary baity likes to having to work hard and get things perfect and push myself while seeing old communities and friends just keeping up in their old rote and routine.
It's a weird mix of guilt of not making as much for folks anymore and hope that, hey, I might actually make an artist of myself down the line and get a real job with it instead of just some very routine commissions.
Dunno, anxiety has been high of late with all this and this video came at a great time. You're an awesome guy Trent!
Honestly if you don't want to draw r34 art the sooner you get away from it the better. People get really broken up when the likes and shares they get from drawing NSFW or borderline NSFW art of popular characters doesnt translate to the things they actually want to draw. I've seen people have some pretty serious breakdowns once they realized it was time to move on from NSFW art but still expect their general audience to care. I notice that kind of audience is constantly trying to guilt the person into drawing NSFW art as well. Fuck those people.
You get to be the artist you want to be. Keep pushing.
looks like your really putting more time into ty - it shows
Back in the 90's / early 2000's I thought of you as the next Todd McFarland. Creed was amazing. Glad to see you doing it again! Also really awesome to watch you draw, couldn't do that back then because there was no RUclips.
cool.. except for the elon musk bit.
Honestly... Thank you. I think this is just what I needed right now. I've been really down on myself and my art lately, and I think I'd like to take some of the points in this video to heart as I try to get back into the creative process after so long away. I can't look at my art senpais and just judge my art compared to theirs. I can't try something completely new without grounding it in what I already know and using my comfort zones to push my skills, rather than just jumping 100% into unknown territory. I can't shame myself for falling behind much younger artists. I'm an artist to the core, and though that life is a tempest of unpredictability, it is who I am down to the soul, and I gotta try to roll with the low blows and try to come out on top.
I'm a cell-shading anime artist, but I really want to do those pretty paintings that look downright angelic, with the soft shading and fewer hard lines. I think I'll try to paint something, but at an angle and in a subject I'm already confident in.
there is another mountain size tiger to climb in NFT art lol
I think one of the reasons I stopped drawing was anxiety in general. I did really well in school, A* in Art. Then after school I just went to work instead of college. I got really bad anxiety/ stress issues from family background. And until right now, I never understood the feeling I got when, I wanted to do something I LOVED more than anything in the world, but subconsciously, in hindsight, I was scared, scared of failing!!
I’m a perfectionist in general. I’m not saying I’m perfect, I just like to push my own limits and try and make what already is, better.
If me being me means I’m better than you at something, that’s your ‘problem’, not mine. Lol
Anyway, one side of my head has this mad inspiration, and has an insanely detailed idea. But then like you said then, it’s like that vision in my head becomes a mountain, and all of a sudden I’m looking up, not down at it!!
Telling myself I can’t do that.
Then the other side of me is like ‘but if I try, you’ll fail, but learn’. Then the other side is like ‘failing is a waist of time/ life, there’s no point’.
And in the past, that’s where it ends!!
So much inspiration gone to the wind!!
But ye, these days I’m trying to get back on the horse.
I look at a half done picture sometime like ‘what’s the point’, but by the time you finish it, you can’t help but love that feeling of accomplishment, and telling yourself ‘that’s why!!’
Sorry for the rant lol
You tryin to catch these tiny hands? xD
Thanks for sharing TRENT!
Putting sh*t in perspective. Yes!
Ur such a big help bro, thank u. 🙏
Very nice, man. Thanks 🙏
"If you wanna grow, you've got to challenge yourself" Lots of this video was impactful for me, self affirmations for sure!
Thank you, I needed this
I love the hell out of this pep talk. Lol
Lol this was great! Needed this today. Thanks for sharing!
Legit Thank you
Maybe I'll fire up this vid again for inspiration after a rough day at the art table. Or worse...a rough day where I've created nothing at all.
storm be like:
im not a storm im the whole jupiter
Nice video ! Keep it up!
I'm Lovin you man! First video of yours I've seen. Found while looking for how to start using the pen that came with my computer lol
gosh i love this man
I'll donate to your comic just because you made one that isn't a stupid rom com with a love triangle 🤢. I might have preferred the character be an adult who enters a dreams cape because we are the ones who struggle with feeling connected to that aspect than teens but maybe it's mature enough for me to enjoy. Just don't include a love triangle. Please. DON'T.
No love triangle. Promise. Just nightmare stomping dreamworld action.
Dude thanks for all the information your channel is god sent!
For me do not think you got to be Superman Batman xmen level.
Just tell a good story and keep pushing to the next quality level you are able to do.
tiny baby hands hahah
Please do a video on comic book that inspire you in childhood and what you like about them
Man I love this channel. I always feel motivated after watching your videos.
Can anyone help give me and other the title of 4 tips ? (just want to know what it about so if it the one I already know then it fine, if not then I and other would continue watch the video)
I knew I saved this for the perfect day, thanks Trent. This tiny little hands are working hard.
This video was really inspiring, and something I really needed to hear! Thank you! 🙏
So many good vibes, brother!
Batten down the hatches and swab the poop deck mateys!
Comics are alien to my culture. However, I can understand their beauty. I've had all two comic book series in my life. And one of them I can't identify to find again. The second was a series of comic books about strange ragamuffin elves on wolves. I even remember the author. But the first comic book is a problem. I remember it was about Conan. Conan was already ruling something there. Some city. And the snake people sent him a "mistress", which at some point turned for some reason into a snake with boobs. And then suddenly a whole crowd of these snake-men ran up and the battle began. The problem is that all of Conan's stories revolve around battles, boobs, and Conan. Identifying the specific story itself is unrealistic for me.
I love to see you drawing, bro. It's so nice!
Thank you very much for this message Trent!
Thank you Trent. This is really good advice. Also I wouldn't compare your work to anything that's on the stands currently. Your stuff is popular because it was so different than anything else out there.
Do not watch Kim jung gi or Peter Han or katsuya tareda. They amaze me, but darn it makes me work harder to watch them draw. But it can be depressing.
Don't be depressed. I'm sure your skill is there but I can relate as well so I k ow what that sting of disappointment can turn into but we are doing art first and foremost for ourselves. It's necessary to our very being to create and so we have to see every act as necessary even our failure is an important draft to teach us how to refine our success. You got this, fam.
I actually have a similar feeling, except Kim Jung Gi and Peter Han both really inspire and motivate me to draw, when I started I just followed advice and just did what people said you should do, but I think you really need to dig deep and ask, are you drawing what you actually want to draw? are you expressing your own voice as an artist? I really struggled with this because I was told to do environments because that's where the opportunities are, but I don't really think of myself as an environment artist, I spent years learning 3d and failing classes in something I didn't even like, and it wasn't until I took a creature anatomy class that I realized I really like doing creatures and that's the direction I need to go in, so try to explore and find what you actually like, you might be chasing after someone else's dream and not your own
For me it's just motivational to see their work, to actually know that with practice you can reach that kind of skill level.
@@bleachedout805 Thank you very much for this nice message.
@@InkyMuste I feel the same way. It motivates me and makes me go harder. Just that as a beginner sometime I can put too much on my shoulders. But, I still love the grind
Any digital ink brush recommendations? struggle to find one that feels comfortable :/
For digital, I just use the ones that I made. For paper, I use Pentel Fume brush + Staedtler pens. Although my buddy recently got me hooked on the Zig Writer pens.
@@TrentKaniuga Alright awesome. Maybe I should try traditional inks more often^^ Thanks a lot!
You're fish look great in this.
Agreed 👍
Thank you for this wisdom. You're a real master man. I think I speak for everyone when I say that what you do for the whole community and the way you do it is priceless and we thank you!
Thanks Jullcepts. I appreciate hearing that!
I might not be able to save the world, but at least I can make at least 1 person smile, and maybe I can tilt the world to be better 1 person at a time.
Trent out here spittin facts
Sir you are amazing ✨💖✨
taeany lil hannds
Beautiful piece of art, Trent!
Thank you kindly!
Thank you Trent :(
im doing studio art in community college and I've been so stressed and this channel has really by helping me be nicer to myself 🥺
Ever have a project where all efforts of production is CONSTANTLY interrupted? The struggle is truly real and having worked on the project for almost 2 years is frustrating.
Yes. I was on Diablo 3. 3 years of iteration and changes, 2 years of actual production after.
Dont say, "I know I dont deserve it" when promoting yourself dude, especially at the end of a video YOU created to motivate OTHER people. Get some of that motivational advice and be confident in your work!
You! Deserve! It!
👏👏👏👏👏
Okay then. Get out there and buy my book! lol. I was laying out the humble.
Thanks Trent, this is just what I needed to hear! I woke up this morning thinking “Man, I’ve got a mountain to climb” but climb it I will.
This was helpful, thank you .
Thank you so much for this video, i needed it.
Still anxiously awaiting an “Up” moment. Art is effin’ exhausting and nobody gives a poo but you. And by you I mean me, but me doesn’t rhyme.
Getting that first big "win" is the hardest one to get.
Couldn't have come at a better time, I've been struggling to finish a piece since Saturday and literally finding anything else to do apart from finish that drawing. I think I might need to just get it done then give myself a break before I start on the next challenge! I'm not reinventing the wheel, I can phone in a character for once.
Hey Trent did you made a video about making your own illustrated novel?
Yes. it's been archived into the 2020 box set of tutorials. www.gumroad.com/trentk
I just switched jobs and then the company I switched to had their art/marketing department absorbed (sorta) by another company and so it’s been quiet the storm, thanks for the reminder that things aren’t always going to be crazy and to weather the storm, because I’ve never been so anxious! Great stuff as always Trent.
Ps, thanks
lol so good!
My goal of doing art, and also what gets me into art, is that muscular furry R34 artist who blew my mind…
Now I’m practicing hard to be able to become a concept artist, and when that day comes true, I will be drawing ALL the villains, furry, creature I love on r34 or Twitter…it sounds weird but it really IS what my goal for drawing is.
I feel so inspired now, really fueling my desire to become a character design artist. Dude your vids make a bigger difference than you'd ever know. Keep it up Trent, greetings from South Africa man!!
Hello Sir, great video, I have a question tho. What if you survived many storms but at some point your body refuse to go through the next one, I mean in a way its not depended on your will
can I just say thank you for this? lol. I really needed to hear this today.
👍✨💫✌️
👍🏾
Great advise as always Trent!
Love your channel and videos but you're totally mistaken about Musk. That guy is one of the biggest dangers to this world; he's DEFINITELY not out to "save" it. Just look at some of the things he has said, the most recent heinous one being "We will coup whoever we want". His business ventures are nothing more than that - business ventures. Electric cars and space are just his way of empire building; he doesn't care about the general public at all. Digging the comic btw - Evil Twin Dreamcast vibes.
The Evil Twin devs were heavily inspired by CreeD! Thanks!
Hey Trent, I remember you saying something about comics industry doesn’t pay enough for the effort if compared to the gaming industry. I might be recollecting that wrong, so can you tell us how you see the comics industry theses days with all the challenges with the stores closed and COVID and so on... and the reasons behind you’re doing this comic? Thank you in advance and ‘see you manhã da ban’ (or however that is spelled lol). Cheers!
The comics industry is still not paying nearly as much as the game industry. However, if you get lucky or have a big audience in ANY industry, you can make more doing your own comic than doing games.
Damn, the Elon’s comments did not age well
Haha true. Whenever I catch myself pushing my body too hard to the point of working 7 days a week and maximizing the hours in a day, I'd be like, 'slow down girl you aint no Elon Musk' 😂 I already had a massive burnout recently, can't afford to let that happen again. 😬✊🏽
First comment 🎆finally
i´m currently appling to university, but i´m having an artblock so it´s stressing me out. i think i really should take a little break to play a bit zelda or something. thanks for reminding me :)
