    Kuon was notable as one of the earliest, if not the absolute earliest, times I can remember an enemy following you from one scene to the next. Up until I played Kuon, you could ALWAYS escape an enemy by going into the next room. It was just an unwritten rule that enemies would stop chasing you once you made it through a door that forced a load screen. Not so in Kuon. The ghost lady or whatever chased me through a yard and I ran into the nearest building, triggering a load screen to go inside. That meant I got away, right? Nope. She came in after me after a second or two and I shut the game off, completely floored that that had happened.

    Silent hill 4 was my introductory to the silent Hill franchise, and horror games in general. I played it back when I was 14 on my PlayStation two. I was so scared of it I had to stop playing for a little while. But the game was great. I loved the atmosphere. I love the characters. I love the story I especially love the music. So it was rather disheartening when I found out that it was the least liked of the franchise. It deserves a lot more credit than it was given.

I still get chills when I remember how I jumped off the computer and bolted out of the room. It was my very first encounter with a horror game of any kind. Had no clue that was a thing. 😂 To this game, Suffering remains one of the best and darkest horror games I've ever played. I'm seeing Condemned, and I almost can't believe that it's a 2005 game, even though I played it before. The visuals look interesting even by current standards. The story was also enticing and well written, which is really rare in modern games. If you compare older and new games, you'll find that the new ones win in visuals, but they're way behind when it comes to stories and interesting plots that the older games had.

    • @dunetiger
      @dunetiger Год назад

      Condemned is amazing right up until it starts getting silly and they doubled-down with the sequel (which was still fun, don't get me wrong). It's too bad. I really liked how the first game opened with you going through a dilapidated building and investigating the killer's bizarre diorama. They could have really stuck with the inspiration from Se7en and had a really cool cerebral series, but it was a product of its time.

    Fellow "The Room" enjoyer.
    The saddest part is that the main reason it failed was because the 1&3 Purists basically killed it before it could really take off. The only true problem with the game was the escort session (which was tied to good/bad ending status) which unfortunately plays a part in the game's overall 'feel' and message.

And after Maiden of the black water and Mask of the Lunar eclipse got a Remake/Remaster I hope the other 3 Games get one too. Cold fear was boring when i was a kid imo
    Clock tower 3 was okay until it became devil may cry or parasite eve
    Pendulum gave me a headache coz of the first person style and the color and texture wasnt my thing when I was a kid
    Kuon is a real treat.
    Fatal frame 2 is yes the scariest. But i loved 3 more because the house style is like my parent's house as well as the crawling ghost gave me a shock no one had done back then.
    Obscure was great and it is also one of the few horror game where you can play with a friend. In my case my little brother, one of the very few memories i treasure the most with him.
    Condemned idk this game
    The suffering is great but I played it on pc during the dial up days on the internet so i kinda cheated the game with walkthrough
    Silent hill 4 is maybe the scariest after shattered memories because of the undying ghost at start. For me, its the og and sheryl's the best still.
    Siren og was a gem, kinda gives me a headache playing it but man that was scary coz the enemies early wont die from a revolver shot which is limited

    Regarding Kuon, if memory helps, Ragarrox made a video about Kuon, and the from what he showed, the game wasn't that popular back in the day because it was too hard as well as because not too many copies were sold on the international market, so a lot of people wouldn't have had access to it regardless.
    I do play to plan to properly play it after I finish with another horror game.
    Also, glad to see your opinion on Fatal Frame. If you haven't tried it yet, I suggest you try Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented, while Crimson Butterfly is amazing, imho, The Tormented is better due to it's use of the camera as both an exorcism tool, but also as a camera, as you can develop pictures taken with the Camera Obscura and have Miku look up for information regarding those pictures. It also has one feature than no Fatal Frame had prior to it, nor after, you can play with Rei's pet cat.

    I was an adult when all of these were released. It's always interesting to me to hear the perspectives of past horror games from younger players. Kuon wasn't successful in the US, and it didn't sell well. The reviews of the game were mixed then and leaning toward unfavorable. I do think it would have sold better had the interest in Japanese horror not been waning. My hope is we'll see a revival and the title will eventually be remade.
    ObsCure was released later in North America due to a few changes to the game. The North American release has a richer ambient soundtrack than the European release did, and there are a few, minor added cutscenes in the NA release. Years later it would be re-released on Steam, so I think people who missed out on ObScure can still find it there. It another one that received mixed reviews, though the co-op mode was praised as I recall. Anyway, after that rather lengthy comment, good video!

      Fun fact: Silent Hill originally presented itself as *horror adventure* and not survival horror

      does P.T really count? it technically wasnt really a game it was a Playable Teaser, hence the name P.T

      @@woteveruk1 Yes. Just a teaser that in no way reflected what the actual game was gonna be like. It was reportedly gonna be a third person game, with combat

    Why does no one ever talk about echo night beyond? The ps2 game. It’s a survival “horror” game about a man trapped on the moon with spirits

    Penumbra the granddaddy for modern first person horror games correct me if Im wrong I'm not sure 😏
    Im seen playthroughs of "Penumbra Necrologue & Twilight Of The Archaic" the mods
    A new one came out called "Prisoner Of Fate" from CounterCurrent Games

      True. The success of Penumbra motivated its developers to create Amnesia, which was also another influential game in the genre.

    Cold Fear was pretty cool i wish they made 2nd one dont know how it was so underrated Clock Tower Remember watching Cryaotic play the game same with Hunting Ground also Kuon was awesome and intresting Fatal Frame was the only game series that i had Hard time playing becuse man Ghost was something i was scared of like really scared of as a 14 year old and obscure i played it with my brother alot and Condemd i think 2nd one where you can pick up Bricks and throw was so funny when you hit someone with and Silent Hill The Room was my Fave Silent Hill and still is i think 2 is a bit overrated and yes Siren games where pretty hard but fun with the weird see through your enemies Eyes but fun too

    Cold Fear supposedly released to be rival of RE4 at that time, but the execution is really bad

    • @KazzaGamesTV
      @KazzaGamesTV  Год назад

      It's true that it was supposed to be a rival to RE4, but I really don't agree that the execution is bad. The game is actually fun, and people loved it. Just because it couldn't compete with the popularity of Resident Evil doesn't make it a bad game. The Evil Within also didn't reach the popularity of RE, even though it's considered one of the best horror games of all time.
