Another conflict I have with that is the definition of "god," which I personally prescribe as all-powerful (which is enough on its own). I would *prescribe* that we should not call it a god. I could be wrong here, but I would argue that because there is information and power kept from the SCP foundation by this entity, it's very easy to incorrectly assume that SCP-343 is a god. One does not become god, I contend, just because one is more powerful than all of human society and physics. You need to be limitless, and the problem with that is this SCP will not share information about its own limitations nor will the foundation be able to test that experimentally. Sure, SCP-343 might be able to bend all of reality, but if just ONE OTHER SCP can defeat this god-poser, it's god status will be immediately stripped.

It's a play on the classic "if god is omnipotent, can he create a rock so heavy that even he can not lift it?" It's an argument that points out that omnipotence (at least in it's pure form) lacks internal logical consistency.
TheStigma I never liked that question, because who thinks that weight applies to God? I'd never think that the creator of absolutely everything was subject to the laws and objects he created. Weight isn't a factor in whether he can lift it or not. He just can.

It's amazing how everyone in the comments is missing the obvious subtext in this one. 343 is not a therapist benevolently helping everyone out, he's very clearly manipulating everyone in the facility. The fact that he can leave his room whenever he wants and do whatever he pleases, yet is classified as "Safe" should be the first obvious hint. Then there's the fact that everybody somehow always has time to see him and anyone guarding his room disobeys direct orders and leaves their posts. And Dr. Beck is obviously not concerned at all about this; he's the one encouraging more people to meet with 343. As if it wasn't obvious enough already, the last part makes it even more clear. The only person in the foundation willing to question 343 is constantly ignored by everyone around him and later completely disappears. How do people miss this?
My theory is that the most apparent and concerning anomaly is the ability to change information regarding itself, possibly including memories, similar to 2062 except it is exclusively able to alter its own containment procedures. The fact that all information about the anomaly is coming from the anomaly itself means it could be anything. Sort of like another 055 but with sentience and the will to be known about, even if everything known about it is a lie.
SCP-343 is probably extracting something from his visitors. Either information or energy. Why the narrator isn't affected by him is the curious part. Also, his proof of being "the creator of the universe" was to show he could do a magic trick. Also also, "SCP-343 greatly enjoys speaking with people and seems to have a knowledge of all topics." He's an information extractor. Keep away from SCP-073 (Cain).

For example it would make sense if the condition is making eye contact with the item and the doctor could be blind. Whatever this condition may be it must require visiting it which would be why visits are so heavily encouraged. I think being curious is just a front to persuade more people to visit as it is a natural habit which can be seen as innocent and not unexpected

Sam Ivy, if he can make data disappear he can probably edit his class. Even Cain is Euclid and he eats with staff and is allowed to walk freely in the base. Though there probably are some other sentient SCP classified as Safe as Dr. Bright isn't allowed any that aren't "Safe".

I have this great head cannon theory about that involving a number of skips and reading that line was what gave me the epiphany after seeing SCP-3007 - World Of Two Artists. if you look up 3007 while keeping what you posted in mind then you will probably get the same scary revelation I did. Then look to scp-3125 and/or the antimemetics division tales to get a bigger picture. Big spoiler below if you want the super short version. There is a memetic entity enslaver and devourer of entire realities and dimensions... and even their creator gods. The thing has been spreading throughout every facet of the multiverse, pulling it all into pure chaos and darkness. The more you know about it the more power it has over you. Compared to other 'readers' - that's what I call you folks - you seem more...human. It sounds like a person that is both reading from a script but also giving an impromptu lecture. There's a sense of spontaneity to the tone provided that makes it believable. It really stems off a bunch of the older ones, my personal favorite being the document recovered from the Marianas Trench. Also, static cuts over redacted data are a much spicier choice than a [bleep].

It's pretty much canon that he's completely manipulating everyone with reality bending. He's not God. He's got everyone under his thumb and they don't know it.
This one always scared me in a different way. Even 2786 couldn't escape The Foundation or even influence them despite operating on such a higher plane but this one basically subjugated them. A safe classification for something like this seems so questionable when it holds such sway. I feel like any concerns related to 343 are going to fall on deaf ears, the one thing we rely on to be above these things is practically getting therapy from one, it scared me so differently from any of the other SCPs.
I'll scare you even more: Concerns regarding 343 are not falling on deaf ears--they are being interdicted and ontologically *erased* by 343. There is a reason why there are no available records of Dr.____________ and why only partial files of his communications are discoverable, and that is due to what is labeled on insurance documents as "an Act of God." Yannis Karageorgiou That's the best interpretation I can think of - SCP-343 is not actually God, but a very powerful creature capable of changing the reality or manipulating minds of the people it talks to (and as stated, that's most of the staff of its Site). The alternative is that it's a god, just not quite the benevolent deity it wants to be seen as. Either way, it must have had a hand in the corruption of less than positive parts of its file and the doctor's disappearance.
He has limits because he gave so much of himself to shape our reality that is why he does not appear to be fully omnipotent but he still hold powers beyond our understanding.

I love how the range of SCPs goes from horrific to funny, and the latter range is enough to scare a lot of people off, which allows for stuff like this. Could you imagine the debates people would go nuts over?
He's no god, reminds me a lot of scp- 1504, Joe Schmo. He seems to affect perception of himself, and/or any data related. He affects the documents, the orders, what others see and feel, everything. But he doesn't seem to be more than that, kind of a trickster. Definitely, no god, and not a cool guy, not safe. H'd be euclyd most likely, maybe Keter due to how dangerous he is to the foundation. Being that he can't be contained and yet he manipulates people inside the foundation so he might have ulterior motives. He also reminds me of the "Playing god" file, at least in part. At least he works in a similar way. It's curious how so little has so much to think about.
Well, he tricks the whole foundation (or those who know of him) easily. There are a whole list of real gods who don't manage to do that. He is most likely not the christian god, but he could very well be a god.
I find the nonchalant SCP's to be my favorites and the most interesting. If I had to guess I would think 343 was hiding from something that could harm him, why else would he willingly allow them to "contain" him in something that couldn't actually contain him.
As much as I read (or listen) to these SCPs I can't help but to think that there is a lot of fuzzyness to the classification system. A lot of very dangerous objects including ones with potential to spread or affect the whole world have classifications as only euclid or even safe in some cases. Apparently that is because classifications are based primarily on the difficulty of containing the threat rather than the level of danger it poses. An example might be 008 (zombie outbreak preon) - euclid. That is plausible enough... But then you have "god" here, rated "safe" which is the exact opposite. While seemingly posing no direct danger it possesses reality-warping powers potentially capable of an extinction level event or even reality-failure. It is also impossible to contain without willing cooperation. If classifications are by containment risk it should easily be a keter despite being seemingly benign. Just my thoughts... if anyone has any insights into this and suggest that I read the classifications from a different perspective I am definitely open to that. I'm still new to the SCP lore :)

343 is interesting because it can be an actual god, or an incredible mind bending manipulator, the mess that the report slowly degenerates into shows how scp-343's power is slowly getting into the report writer, his influence slowly taking him and enabling him to get more people under his liking, the reason for that will stay unknown and can only be speculated, its the same with 079, they have all this power, but for our convenience they choose to stay contained within SCP.

I never liked that question, because who thinks that weight applies to God? I'd never think that the creator of absolutely everything was subject to the laws and objects he created. Weight isn't a factor in whether he can lift it or not. He just can.
It's not a question meant for serious consideration. It is a reductio ad absurdum that demonstrates that when you try to apply fantasy magic to reality then you only end up with incoherent nonsense. It's a not a problem worth trying to solve because the question itself is wrong, but it serves it's purpose.

It's amazing how everyone in the comments is missing the obvious subtext in this one. 343 is not a therapist benevolently helping everyone out, he's very clearly manipulating everyone in the facility. The fact that he can leave his room whenever he wants and do whatever he pleases, yet is classified as "Safe" should be the first obvious hint. Then there's the fact that everybody somehow always has time to see him and anyone guarding his room disobeys direct orders and leaves their posts. And Dr. Beck is obviously not concerned at all about this; he's the one encouraging more people to meet with 343. As if it wasn't obvious enough already, the last part makes it even more clear. The only person in the foundation willing to question 343 is constantly ignored by everyone around him and later completely disappears. How do people miss this?

My theory is that the most apparent and concerning anomaly is the ability to change information regarding itself, possibly including memories, similar to 2062 except it is exclusively able to alter its own containment procedures. The fact that all information about the anomaly is coming from the anomaly itself means it could be anything. Sort of like another 055 but with sentience and the will to be known about, even if everything known about it is a lie.
SCP-343 is probably extracting something from his visitors. Either information or energy. Why the narrator isn't affected by him is the curious part.
Also, his proof of being "the creator of the universe" was to show he could do a magic trick.

For example it would make sense if the condition is making eye contact with the item and the doctor could be blind. Whatever this condition may be it must require visiting it which would be why visits are so heavily encouraged. I think being curious is just a front to persuade more people to visit as it is a natural habit which can be seen as innocent and not unexpected

Compared to other 'readers' - that's what I call you folks - you seem more...human. It sounds like a person that is both reading from a script but also giving an impromptu lecture. There's a sense of spontaneity to the tone provided that makes it believable. It really stems off a bunch of the older ones, my personal favorite being the document recovered from the Marianas Trench. Also, static cuts over redacted data are a much spicier choice than a [bleep].

It's pretty much canon that he's completely manipulating everyone with reality bending. He's not God. He's got everyone under his thumb and they don't know it.
This one always scared me in a different way. Even 2786 couldn't escape The Foundation or even influence them despite operating on such a higher plane but this one basically subjugated them. A safe classification for something like this seems so questionable when it holds such sway. I feel like any concerns related to 343 are going to fall on deaf ears, the one thing we rely on to be above these things is practically getting therapy from one, it scared me so differently from any of the other SCPs.

I find it somehow beutifully symbolic that God would go sightseeing in a country that is predominantely agnostic to his existence. It resonates with the very nature of the SCP 343 - we cannot know or be sure about his true nature and if he truly is a God or just pretends to be. We will forever be agnostic to SCP 343 just as much as we will be to the real God.
And there will be no answer. Only belief of him being a belief of him not being or an agnostic belief of us never knowing.

Yannis Karageorgiou That's the best interpretation I can think of - SCP-343 is not actually God, but a very powerful creature capable of changing the reality or manipulating minds of the people it talks to (and as stated, that's most of the staff of its Site). The alternative is that it's a god, just not quite the benevolent deity it wants to be seen as. Either way, it must have had a hand in the corruption of less than positive parts of its file and the doctor's disappearance.

Wouldn't 343 get an Apollyon class, as he can't be contained?
My guess is that he is messing with their mind and his own containment procedures. Also visible with the addendum explaining that he could very well be a major threat, but no one seems to care. That, or it's just bad writing.

Conor Vermeiren they couldn't, he was willing to be contained, and he cooperstes either way since he just phases through solid objects and teleports,which can literally do anytime he wants whenever he needs to do something outside his cell.
You could be a guard in the foundation and you'll casually walk past God as he floats down the hallway.

I think there is some underlying malevolence to SCP-343, I feel like this doctor who was going to confront it may have been taken out of existence and any trace of them has also been removed.

I love how the range of SCPs goes from horrific to funny, and the latter range is enough to scare a lot of people off, which allows for stuff like this. Could you imagine the debates people would go nuts over?
He's no god, reminds me a lot of scp- 1504, Joe Schmo. He seems to affect perception of himself, and/or any data related. He affects the documents, the orders, what others see and feel, everything. But he doesn't seem to be more than that, kind of a trickster. Definitely, no god, and not a cool guy, not safe. H'd be euclyd most likely, maybe Keter due to how dangerous he is to the foundation. Being that he can't be contained and yet he manipulates people inside the foundation so he might have ulterior motives. He also reminds me of the "Playing god" file, at least in part. At least he works in a similar way.
It's curious how so little has so much to think about.
Well, he tricks the whole foundation (or those who know of him) easily. There are a whole list of real gods who don't manage to do that. He is most likely not the christian god, but he could very well be a god.

I see 343 as an Avatar of God something similar to Dr Manhattan. His true form is above everything else, so he made a body to interact with us.
I find the nonchalant SCP's to be my favorites and the most interesting. If I had to guess I would think 343 was hiding from something that could harm him, why else would he willingly allow them to "contain" him in something that couldn't actually contain him.

As much as I read (or listen) to these SCPs I can't help but to think that there is a lot of fuzzyness to the classification system.
A lot of very dangerous objects including ones with potential to spread or affect the whole world have classifications as only euclid or even safe in some cases. Apparently that is because classifications are based primarily on the difficulty of containing the threat rather than the level of danger it poses. An example might be 008 (zombie outbreak preon) - euclid. That is plausible enough...
But then you have "god" here, rated "safe" which is the exact opposite. While seemingly posing no direct danger it possesses reality-warping powers potentially capable of an extinction level event or even reality-failure. It is also impossible to contain without willing cooperation. If classifications are by containment risk it should easily be a keter despite being seemingly benign.
Just my thoughts... if anyone has any insights into this and suggest that I read the classifications from a different perspective I am definitely open to that. I'm still new to the SCP lore :)
TheStigma if it’s in the box and doesn’t do anything it’s safe. Even by choice it’s safe. If it teleports of the room without anyone knowing why it’s Euclide. If it breaks the box it’s keter. These can change from safe too Euclid or keter to safe.
Thanks - I guess it's a matter of definition. It just seems weird that voulentary containment would be categorized the same as "easily contained". I mean, that hinges entirely on the subject never changing his mind. Seems a little sloppy and carefree for an organization dealing in such dangerous things :)

Well if you look at the document at the very end. It seems "God" has been questioning staff about other SCP.(Why would a truly omnipotent being bother with something he knows) and Data is being deleted on the Doctor Who supposed to be keeping track of him. The "Safe" Classification could be the actual fact that he's gotten into everyone's head and they dont even realize it
So this being can stretch time, walk through walls, teleport, bend space, make objects appear, and for some reason it makes people disappear as well as the memory of thier existence and any data about the person. This being seems malevolent.
This was the SCP that made me subscribe to Volgun a year or so ago. Glad I did. He's come a long way.

It's bizarre that people are overlooking the subtext of this one. He's not just chill dad vibing. All other omnipotent beings they've encountered so far get Keter classification, even if they seem benevolent. But he doesn't? The sector is rife with insubordination that gets rewarded? They clearly have some way to keep records supernaturally, because we are aware of a doctor, presumably of level 4, confronting the SCP and no longer existing afterwards. This is a Keter hiding in plain sight. This is the posting made for Dr. Clef, or a way to use 239.
Wasn't this SCP back then was just written as a lonely old guy who pretends he's god, went away with a sorry note and came back, then changes things just because he realises that the foundation kinda also knew he was just lonely and kept it at that?

For a being with that kind of power that lets humans willingly let him be contained to make them feel safer is beyond kind. Being basically Omniscient would mean he's the greatest therapist. He'd be one of the SCP's i would love to visit other than SCP 999 or Dr. Bright.
343 is interesting because it can be an actual god, or an incredible mind bending manipulator, the mess that the report slowly degenerates into shows how scp-343's power is slowly getting into the report writer, his influence slowly taking him and enabling him to get more people under his liking, the reason for that will stay unknown and can only be speculated, its the same with 079, they have all this power, but for our convenience they choose to stay contained within SCP.
