    I recently binge watched all of the videos that have been published before realizing the entire series hadn’t been completed… that was a sad moment.
    Watching this series is like getting to watch the anime a second time, the commentary is genuinely funny, insightful, and thorough all at once. I really appreciate this series and it doesn’t take the world’s greatest detective to figure out that pressing that big red button is the proper course of action.

    I think the contradictions in Light's and Misa's own personalities before and after the Death Note paints perfectly that after using the Death Note they're completely different people. Misa who would never betray her friends but only after murdering is now ready to in a split second. Even L realized the difference almost immediately. Makes it hard to describe them at certain parts in the show

    • @DarkDyllon
      @DarkDyllon 11 месяцев назад +9

      it's mostly that Misa is still willing to do anything for light, the issue now is how will she do it.
      previously she had the death note, so an EASY button to do anything he wanted of her, but now she doesn't and she is still for some reason attracted to Light, even though the only reason she was attracted to Light was because Light was Kira, without him being Kira she wouldn't even bat an eye at her.
      i'm more surprised that L actually doesn't play more into this, since Misa still says she idolizes Kira but then never questions why Misa is around Light of all people, sure Light is good looking, but it's an insane conflict of interest here, Light wants to get Kira, while Misa loves Light but idolizes Kira, it seems out of place for Misa to like Light still, kinda a plothole to be honest since her mind can still say "i love Light" like how a person with dementia still holds a special feeling over a loved one, even if that dementia person has no recollection of that loved one, but she would have no real way to defend herself in this manner, what will she say "i love Light and that's final!" not a valid response.
      she wouldn't be able to say how she found Light either since the reason she found Light was because she couldn't see his lifespan and then tracked him down by name, but how would she frame that.
      Light's case is a bit more believeable since Light was actually somewhat confused about Misa, but still holds true to his beliefs as innocent Light, but Misa has no defence.

      @@DarkDyllon This is what happens with Deconstructed Character Archetypes. Light Yagami deconstructs the Stock Shounen Hero. Misa Amane deconstructs the Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Both have some degree of genuine points even as Kiras, but those just punctuate how both of them are too dangerous and problematic to allow to just run around doing whatever they want at the point where Light is EXTREMELY utilitarian leading him to undermine those points while Misa's loyalty toward Light and fangirling toward the executioner of her parents' murderer leads her down HER road of bone.
      Know who we could contrast those two to for a point I wish to make? The My Hero Academia characters Izuku Midoriya and Ochako Uraraka, ANOTHER case of Savvy Guy Energetic Girl. Izuku gets a uniquely useful power, which sounds familiar. Izuku comes up with plans and calculations for important situations, which sounds familiar. Izuku is proactive about making use of his uniquely useful power to combat The Bad Guys(TM), which sounds familiar. Uraraka supports Izuku overwhelmingly, which sounds familiar. Uraraka is full of vitality about things, which sounds familiar. But the big difference is that those two actually do go for protecting the innocent and actually and consistently treat THEIR The Bad Guys(TM) as human beings. It shows particularly with Uraraka's Rousing Speech (Chapter 323, I recall) making clear that she sees Izuku as the good person that he is and he should be given support for that. THAT is what works about Savvy Guy Energetic Girl: the reconstruction element. Light and Misa by contrast are too busy egging each other on instead of fostering each other's better points, and inevitably become a Greek Tragedy for their troubles.

      She wasn't attracted to Light because he was Kira. She was attracted to Light because Light is a pussy magnet. Before she knew was Kira looked like and in this episode were she shares her feelings on Kira, she never said she wanted to fuck Kira. She only said she supports or worships him. Once she saw Kira/Light as Kira if fucking hot, was when she wanted to get in Light's pants. Notice how she doesn't wanna fuck the new Kira once it is revealed that he's Kira either. That's why her feelings for Light remain. If Light wasn't hot, she would not stick around.

    What's Up People is basically one of those songs that is the peak in that highly specific style of mid 2000s edge.
    I think that Shinigami not going for Misa's life is just a result of Shinigami society. They don't really have any reason to actually care about picking specific humans because all they need to do is occasionally write the name of "some" human in their Death Note, and remember to do it every now and again. it fits with the lack of ambition and the downright boring nature of the Shinigami realm that they don't really have any sort of drama between each other of that extent and that a lot of the rules that are meant for Shinigami aren't even enforced. None of them really care that much.
    Based on the a-Kira oneshot, it seems to suggest that the Shinigami King doesn't really care that much about whatever might be happening with the Notes as long as the Death Note is being used as intended and the rules outlined are far more like guidelines. Ryuk needs to drop the Death Note rather than directly give it to someone because him giving it to a human would get the ire of the Shinigami King, but him dropping it such that it seems like an accident is something the Shinigami King would overlook.
    It might be to drive home a sort of otherwordly feel - the Shinigami are entities without human ambitions. They don't have a fixation on rules or morality because of their status as death gods. The Shinigami King doesn't seem to tangibly benefit from enforcing the rules so he probably only really set them up as things that he noticed rub him the wrong way for the Shinigami, so they have a list of things that they shouldn't do if for no other reason than because it bugs him.

    The moment where Light spins L around to confront him is such a powerful scene to me, every time I watch it I get chills. The way L just, from the very beginning, see's right through Light. L knows Light is Kira, there is no convincing him otherwise because it's the truth. But him knowing isn't the victory.

    • @aarym605
      @aarym605 11 месяцев назад

      Exactly. After this very scene and given information from the Yotusba meeting. I think it makes more sense for L to work behind the scenes like he did at the start of the investigation. L could still use other people and communicate remotely in the investigation. With the current circumstances, Light is looking to be more innocent, but he also attacked L two different times. It makes sense from an emotional, logistical, and investigative standpoint for L to remove himself at least for a time.

    29:22 I would side with Team L. Given the pass experience of locking up Light and Misa just for them to "lose" the power of Kira and for it to now be with this group of business men would be a red flag. Even if you arrested them, if they "lose" the power of Kira and 3 months later the killing started AGAIN you would have to give up because you already stop Kira 3 times just for Rem to spin the block with another problem. If you can't definitively defeat Kira there's no reason to go after them until you can make certain that it's going to stop them.

    I have to side with L on this one, if I'm going by info they only had at the time.
    -We don't know for sure if Kira is among that group. There may be a strong possibility but we don't know that for sure.
    -This is obviously a supernatural issue. Kira doesn't kill by normal human means. Which means we would have to be 100% certain of who Kira was before arresting him. As far as we know, Kira can kill with just a thought. We can't just go in guns a blaze before we even know how he kills.
    -Yes, cops have a job to protect, but no one in the room is a cop anymore. We can't go in there and just arrest all of them. We would have to get the actual cops to help out, which means we would have to tell them all we know. But all we know is mostly circumstantial at best. With just the one video they have and the death patterns so far, it isn't really proof any of the men in the room is Kira.
    Also, we couldn't even use the tape as evidence because we didn't have permission to bug their room. I am not a Japanese lawyer but in America, I would have to admit to illegally setting up cameras on private property in other to tell the cops I have this video. Since no one is a cop, we are all essentially vigilantes and there are strict laws as to what we can do. So any real lawyer would throw the tape evidence out (assuming the DA would even take this case to court knowing that the tape was recorded illegally.) Then all we would have are the circumstantial fact that kills that benefit the company take place on the weekend. Can't go to jail for coincidence.
    Also, we would need to know how the power works. What if it is easily transferable? How do we combat that? If we show our hand too early, it could lead to Kira winning.
    The only thing left is to narrow down who Kira is. See if these people die, follow everyone in the room, and see if you can find out who's Kira or how they communicatewith Kira if Kira wasn'tamong them. The best course of action is honestly setting up the person least likely to be Kira up as a mole. Get him to trick Kira into revealing himself. Ask him to set up recording devices or put up recording devices we can access without the knowledge of anyone else in the meetings.
    Listening to the Yagamis here is short sighted. All that would likely do is make the power jump to another person. Remember when Light and Misa were taken in after being suspected of being Kira? The power left. And sure they don't know that the power left for sure, but it is a good possibility and one L even considers. And he would be right.
    Most of the time, cops won't arrest a suspect until they know how the crime was committed. There are multiple good reasons this is the case and this would be an especially good idea given the strange nature of this case. I wouldn't make any overt moves until it was obvious how Kira kills. At least then we could try to prevent it.

    Well....despite popular belief, Misa's life span isn't as long as people think it is. Remember; Shinigami are lazy by nature. They don't typically store life span for a very long time because for them at least there's no point in "working so hard". The main reason I bring this up is because this will become apparent in the future

    • @rosestar1324
      @rosestar1324 11 месяцев назад +8

      You seem to have forgotten Rem said Misa's lifespan became much longer than a normal human's. That means she was gonna live a very long time before halving her life for the eyes. Idk what the average lifespan is for a Japanese woman in the early 2000s, but you should at least add a few decades to that average to get a bit of an idea of the minimum amount of years she had before the first eye deal. My guess, a low estimate would be 150.

    • @KhepriProductions2022
      @KhepriProductions2022 11 месяцев назад +8

      @@rosestar1324 life span (the way shinigami see it at least) isn't determined by physical life expectancy. Life span also accounts for things like disease accidental death and even if you're murdered. When Misa was going to be killed she was reaching the end if her predtetermined life span. That's what Rem meant when Gelus extended Misa's life beyond its natural end because regardless of it being killer, she wasn't meant to live beyond that point until Gelus saved her on both counts of killing the attacker and transferring the life force he saved up

    • @troyii435
      @troyii435 8 месяцев назад

      @@KhepriProductions2022 I think the previous point still stands because Rem said that misa's lifespan was much longer to some degree than a normal human's. I don't think rem considers those that die younger "normal humans" for one, but also even if she did consider those people in her analysis, Misa's lifespan would still probably be higher than 100 because though many people have early deaths it's still not comparable to the people that live into a somewhat elderly age.

    • @KhepriProductions2022
      @KhepriProductions2022 8 месяцев назад

      @@troyii435 if that's the case, then please answer this question for me. Why was Misa getting the eyes again such a big deal? If what youre saying about Misa having 100 years is right then it would've been 50 when she made the deal again. This speaks volumes for Ryuk as a character, as he's cunning enough to actually trick the boss of all Shinigami. Or that the "Old Man" knows he's being tricked, but is amused enough with Ryuk's antics to give him a spare Death Note.

    There’s one thing that really bothers me about death note and it’s that the investigation team or any governing body makes any attempt to give people convicted of crimes any form of anonymity to protect them from Kira.
    While allowing Light to kill them is justified to a certain degree out of concerns that he could target innocent people instead, they’re wrong in this assumption and are totally willing to compromise their own beliefs and allow a mass murderer to strip the convicted of their human right to due process, turning the law system as a whole into a meat grinder to fuel Kira’s legend and sew the fear necessary for Kira to control and manipulate the world as he sees fit.
    Let’s be honest L and gang are only allowing it so they can use the rate of death as some form of control variable to compare Kira’s activity to Light’s (which Light pretty easily manipulates because he can control when people die and so it doesn’t matter when he’s being detained or observed) and that’s incredibly fucked up no matter what your views of criminals are. Game Theory’s Matpat gives a low estimate of at least 280,000 people killed by the various death notes by the end of the series. It’s a horrifying number not for what it implies to an irredeemable psycho like Kira but to the complacency of the supposed “good guys” of the series. It’s not acceptable.

      honestly you should watch the show maybe not this one since he explains half the show but you should definitely start watching anime as a whole.
      Maybe not the mainstream ones since they have hundreds of episodes which could make it unenjoyable but you should start with some good 12-24 episode anime’s like one punch man or demon slayer.
      But if you want anime with above 50 eps than you should watch my hero academia, Hunter x Hunter, or Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood
      those are just suggestions you aren’t required to watch but if you ever feel like something to watch than these are good anime’s to start off with. You could always just watch a video on some good starters but these are my personal favorites

    I would say I'm team Yagami. When it is asked "Who shall we kill," I think it demonstrates that this meeting is different than others passively claiming they want kira to end X Y and Z. The fact that Kira comes up so often In conjunction to implicating THEMSELVES as being complicit murders, I'd say you can grab them on conspiracy to murder, and I'm not sure if this is a thing in Japan, felony murder for previous Kira deaths. Felony murder is when someone dies in the process of you committing a felony, even if you didn't kill them.
    You could potentially slap them with ALL the supposed Kira deaths, as it's not known they didn't possess the book from the jump

      L’s whole point was that your scenario just won’t hold up in a court of law. You need more than just coincidence like that. They need more to prove murder than just “he was in the area”. How would L prove beyond a reasonable doubt that these people are mass killing with literally 0 proof of how?

    I've been thinking, and there's simply no way a person could miss one of the Kira meetings, either by being sick or it being a business trip they have to attend. The reason being that nobody would risk being killed by Kira by not showing, unless they had Kira's explicit permission to go. And Kira would not hold a meeting without everybody attending because, for one, it would tell everybody there that whoever didn't show could not possibly be Kira if Kira acted on information that only someone at the meeting could know, and also if Kira was the one who didn't show, then it would mean the meeting was both worthless as they didn't get any information out of the meeting and it would heavily raise the suspicion of everyone who is not Kira who the true Kira is if nothing happened with the meeting's info. Regarding these facts, if there was circumstance in which people in the meeting could not attend, Kira would simply call off the meeting as it would not be possible to hold one without everyone there.

    • @overanalyzinganime

      Uh, are you L? Lol. Like, damn. That’s a completely valid argument; you definitely changed my stance on that part. Thank-you for taking the time to break it down like that, I really appreciate it.

    • @troyii435
      @troyii435 8 месяцев назад

      Additionally with that, kira would have to come up with a way of calling off the meeting without revealing himself and in the previous circumstance you mentioned, kira would have to somehow give permission explicitly while remaining incognito. Maybe he could come up with a situation where he forces someone close to each of the businessmen(by a threat on their life) to send that information, then proves that it's true to the businessmen by killing all of the messengers but that's risky because the messengers would likely figure out that they were going to die anyway at that point and then they basically become completely unreliable. Maybe he could try to send a tape or some message that way like misa did? Anyways, it just seems unlikely that a situation like that would even happen either so good point lol. They basically just have no choice but to attend no matter what now.

    i feel like something you kinda missed (or maybe purposely avoided as it requires knowledge we dont have just yet) is how ryuzaki volunteering for light to become L after his possible death is actually a amazing fail-safe, in the case that kira is light and wins, him becoming L will put him into contact with whoever ends up actually taking up the mantle of L forcing him to maintain the close contact to investigators ryuzaki aswell as generally maintaining pressure and wasting his time. which is exactly what happens and a massive reason why he even got caught.

I imagine that the rule of ,,shinigami must always possess one death note" is less of a supernatural law with consequences should it not be followed, but more of a guideline for any shinigami that are holding a death note(like, you must always possess a one death note, thats youre duty, or something)

    32:35 By this point in the series I was kind of checked out, but you're totally right, and I missed it. Enlisting Misa's help was actually incredibly dangerous for multiple reasons, not the least of which being that she was a celebrity spokesperson for the company. Everyone has her true name and face, and the Yotsuba Kira would absolutely X her out of existence on the mildest of suspicions present or future. Guess this far in, the actual seriousness of the stakes was lost on me.

    • @MasterKnightDH
      @MasterKnightDH 11 месяцев назад +2

      I can guarantee the logic is this: Misa dies and Yotsuba has law enforcement zero in on them with little in the way of numbers to keep the law enforcement from detaining them as prime suspects for questioning. Yotsuba's security sucks, so there's no chance that they can stop this. Law enforcement can then find key documents and know how Kira's power operates that way even without the Death Note.

      There's a concept in Japan of "kirakira-neemu" or fancy names that use weird readings for kanji. For instance a person named "Hime" written as "Hime" but meant to be read as "Purinsesu"/"Princess". For a twist of fate, Light's name being written with the character for "moon" but read "Light" means he has a kirakira name.

Over time he starts doing what Near did, monitoring and keeping pressure from a distance. By letting Light make mistakes, he can then catch him in the act.

    Socially, I think the fact that Light has been a part of the task force for a while now also more ground - or authority - to reveal this. Coincidentally, it's this social mastery that also allowed Light(Kira) to effortlessly manipulate the task force beyond the capture of Yostuba Kira. There's a lot more to say about the social situation between L and the task force and Light and the task force... but that would take an eternity.

    I love the little mistakes in Higuchi's conduct you pointed out, because it's likely part of the reason he has a hard time climbing the ladder further than his current position (which is his primary reason for acting as Kira: he wants more power), he's just not smart enough for that.

    • @MasterKnightDH
      @MasterKnightDH 11 месяцев назад

      The clincher is that Higuchi has Rem turn against him by openly plotting to turn Misa's life into a case of life insurance fraud, BEFORE realizing that she was the 2nd Kira. Again, how does he fail the heinous standard for the Complete Monster trope? Better yet, why pin Higuchi's crimes directly on Light? Light wasn't planning around any attempts on Misa's life as we will see why that's relevant, just on the general outline. Light didn't make ANYBODY come up with life insurance fraud on somebody they would marry.

He knows what makes people tick, how to maneuver himself around people to get an outcome that he sees as desirable, and he especially knows how to sweet talk people to his side even though he’s ‘quirky’ to say the least. In this episode, L and the gang know these people are behind the kira murders, and roughly how they're going about it, they just don't have the hard proof, and as such, L refuses to go straight into it.
    Compared to the rest of the series

    I think I'm with team L. Mr. Yagami apparently forgot that they are not actually police anymore (episode 18?), so they can't even arrest anybody. They would have to go to the actual police and Yotsuba probably has like a bajilion lawyers and their first question would be: "why and how did you bug that room in the first place?" (remember how everybody was freaked out when L wanted to place cameras n' shit in Yagami's house and a few other families? And they were regular households, not huge companies like Yotsuba). However, I'm not sure if even the death of the individuals mentioned in the conversation would provide enough solid proof. They'd probably need even more deaths so the court couldn't shrug it off as coincidence (still, I imagine that it would be still a hell of a lawsuit, unless they get their hands on the note and bring a Shinigami as witness, but they don't know any of that yet :D). Brutal, but I gues that's the law for ya.

    Im team Yagami.
    I think its very interesting how the situation of discussion sort of echoes the beginning of the series right after you gain the information that you'd need to question L's previous actions.
    After L's early questioning of Light it should have been pretty obvious that he is Kira, or at the very least that he's the prime suspect. At that point the viewer is meant to assume that L needs evidence, but now that we know more about the power he holds we can see that actually it was a conscious choice to let Kira run free rather than simply arrest Light right there and end the series on the spot. He could have put Light in a cage at any point. He didn't, until Light asked. L does not care about who dies during his game, even if its himself. A couple more billionaires are nothing compared to how many deaths L is indirectly responsible for. Is that right?
    Im of the opinion that L seems to be a parody of the concept of a "fair justice system." Obviously death note is a criticism of Japan's harsh legal system, but not a lot of people mention that the show also shows the other side of the coin too. By adding all these rules he has to follow and making a game out of law just gives Kira more opportunities to escape. If L had just handled this the way the japanese police force would, throw the only suspect in jail without a second thought, tens of millions of lives would have been saved. But of course, that is the exact logic Light uses to justify his own actions.

    • @kiratherenegade1561
      @kiratherenegade1561 11 месяцев назад +2

      However, Light isn't a nobody.
      He's Chief Yagami's son.
      Sure L could just throw Light in a cage, but his father would certainly not allow that without evidence. And Chief Yagami has the law in his back pocket.
      If L decides to ignore him & do some false imprisonment, the Chief can literally arrest him. L wields no real power in Japan. He's a consultant. That's all.
      So when you view the series as L knowing he needs bulletproof evidence in order to convince the Chief, it becomes very clear how complicated the situation was for L.
      He'd pissed off the one guy he made untouchable. Then in his attempt to force evidence, he only played into Light's game.
      Light's most powerful piece was sat next to L the entire time.

    1:24
    That's how a good chunk of this story is written, tbvh.
    Funny how Ryuzaki tags Light as Kira because he came to an inorganic conclusion by working backwards from a solution he already knew the answer to, when, in a meta sense, most of the 'deductions' in this manga utilise the same approach.
    Like, for real, way too many characters in this story are *too* sure in their guesses considering they're dealing with literal magic.

    • @mattwayne9128
      @mattwayne9128 11 месяцев назад

      2:18
      And that's the second half of the equation.
      A pretty "out there" deduction, followed by near immediate validation, leading the person who made the deduction in the first place to double down on it.
      For someone as open minded as L, he'd have to be constantly juggling a numerous amount of possibilities on what to do next with Kira, but if we actually saw him doing that in practice, it would take away from the mystery of his genius. Some people would probably think, "Oh, he just fires a lot of shots until one finally hits, he doesn't just nail it in the first try". It won't be nearly as impressive as what we get in the story.
      So what happens is that instead of spending any time showing him juggling those possibilities, they instead have him pick one out (the right one), and then immediately validate that choice. Ensuring that he can zero in on that possibility without the readers/watchers wondering why he just seemed to ignore a thousand other potential options.
      Imo, it's kinda cheap. There are a bunch of times in the beginning that L makes a bunch of assumptions about the sort of person Kira was that honestly do not feel justified for him to make with the amount of information he had at the time. It's, of course, validated by the fact that Light matched his specs exactly, but that just goes to what I've been talking about.
      Spoilers for the next half of death note, but what if it was Mikami who got the note first? He'd have done just about what Light did, but without the ego, leaving L to profile him the exact same way, except that he'd be dead wrong this time.
      But seeing as the series is written, he just magically wouldn't have done that.
      Thankfully, this gets rarer and rarer as the series goes on and the options dwindle because the scope of the investigation reduces as they've narrowed in on Light.
      Fires up again at the second half of the series (by a considerable amount too), so that's a bummer.

    I should get to writing this and getting this out of the way, but I do think that Light fiercely voting for keeping the businessmen alive and coming up with a sophisticated plan to do so quickly, even if it is still not quite involving him gambling his own life of his own volition, does at least show that Good Light, the one without the Death Note, is ultimately a decent person, although morally VERY vulnerable from what we all know, a show that Light Yagami as a whole is a Greek tragedy even if Kira is birthed by Light's earlier choices to be a hubris-filled thrill seeker. Light Yagami as a whole was filled with potential and had SOME sense of morality, but what he does turns that into a massive waste for a faulty public premise and an even more sketchy underlying motive. It particularly shows in the manga when Light thinks to himself in response to Misa's stellar explanation job about how he "can't develop feelings for (Misa)" and how "that's how most idiots screw up", giving him a shocking parallel to Naraku from Inu Yasha even if Light at least is more pitiable at his cost of showing the dangers of utilitarianism. There's a reason why he's comparable to Lucifer, once an angel too.
    There is another thing worth talking about with Light's mentality, and it's actually involving something you bring up. We notice that Soichiro is in his own right fierce and hasty about serving justice, and can be argued to be pure about it. Does that sound familiar? Soichiro at least has experience in his 48 years of life to know that homicide is a bad thing, no need to rely on what society says. He is not a 17YO teenager who while numbed to repetitive nastiness in the world with a particular moment of feeling as much chanced upon a murder weapon that can actually be extremely hard to track. Soichiro Yagami, even threatening to gun down Demegawa, scummy piece who should be tried for the Complete Monster trope he may be, was absolutely noteworthy if you're truly against homicide, regardless of you trying to get control of items involving the 2nd Kira. Please be wary about that sort of thing or you risk being comparable to Kira, who you may notice your own son is being accused of being. Oh, and of course, we know that Light Yagami is Kira Prime. I think the live action films actually drive home the point I'm trying to make, that Light is similarly impatient, and without what Soichiro far better understands, it's to MUCH worse effect. Light being impatient is less clear in the anime/manga than in either the films or the live-action drama, but believe me, it's there no matter how subtle and it WILL strike him so hard at a critical moment.
    How things would have been so much better if Light and L had met before Light could have chanced upon the DN. Not that Light would have been a saint instantly by any means given what we have is a guy who made bad choices for ultimately bad reasons, but it's quite possible that he and L would have pushed each other to better themselves morally, not just intellectually.

    Here in Chicago we have a charge called “solicitation of murder.” If they were going to charge them with anything it would likely be that or any previous murders they could link to them. However I’m sure they’d want to see them all go away for life. But again they could all say they were under duress if one specific person was never identified. Like if it was just all them in a room and Kira was never caught they could all play that card and no one would be able to argue that point considering they saw one of their coworkers get killed

    20:58 This doesn't seem that unusual, given how long lived shinigami are and, as Ryuk describes it, how stagnant their lives have become, that it probably isn't worth that much more effort to them compared to the average human. Like, it's not like they're ever seen chomping at the bit to fill out their notebooks every day; they probably have hundreds of thousands of not millions of years of life already, Misa's extended life years is probably still just a drop in the bucket to them.

      Also they would have to search for Misa. It's not like it is common knowledge that she has a huge lifespan, only Rem saw Gelus die.

      We also don't know how prolific Gelus was at accumulating life, especially once he started watch Misa. Once he became obsessed watching her, it's unlikely he did much in the way of adding names to his notebook. There's also the fact that Misa exchanged half of that lifespan for the Eyes, so whatever amount Gelus had, she only has half that. Even if he had over 100 years that passed to her, she'd have about 50 left, making her remaining time much less significant.

      @@Persewna4 According to Rem it's far beyond a normal humans lifespan so I don't doubt she has a considerable amount of years added, and Gelus potentially not writing names while pining over Misa hardly matters since it couldn't have been more than a year or two; even the laziest shinigami in existence with no more years than the average human only needs to write a name down every couple decades assuming they're killing anyone that isn't literally already on their death bed

      @@Rusty_Spy Did she say far beyond a normal human lifespan, or beyond this human's normal lifespan? I could be wrong, but I was remembering it as her referring to Misa specifically. According to Misa's normal lifespan she was already supposed to be dead at that point, so even if she only makes it to 95, if she was supposed to die at age 19 then that means she'd have a lifespan 5x what it was supposed to be. That would easily work if Misa had about 170 years added and then halved.
      As for Gelus, the time he spent watching Misa would have been negligible, but we don't know what he was like before that. Maybe he did only kill every few decades, and/or maybe he did decide to be merciful and only kill those that didn't have much time left anyway. Maybe whenever he got to one hundred or two hundred years he was satisfied and took time off until he got back down to double digits. There's no sense of urgency after all.

    Personally, I'm Team L/Ryuuzaki on the debate. Based on the evidence that the task force has - basically, a lot of data points that suggests a relationship between Kira and Yotsuba, and one conversation where they talk about deaths that would benefit them - it would be incredibly hard to charge them with crimes. They could claim they were "play pretend"ing about Kira out of superstition, saying they had a meeting one Friday where they daydreamed about deaths to help their company only for those deaths to happen, and so they have this ritual just in case Kira is real and has chosen them to reap the benefits of their unknown benefactor. Without the method, there's no way to prove that these men talking directly results in death, especially if they are arrested before those planned deaths; they could claim that the ritual doesn't work 100% of the time and there would be no proof to the contray. Arresting prematurely kind of feels like Minority Report, arresting people before their crime is committed strips away their free will to make a different choice and seeks to punish for a crime that never happened.
