    Nice share, thanks so much.
Looked like Harrison pulled a hamstring, goalies weren't out doing full post to post splits in warmup back then. Poor Roger Nielsen, not only being in Ballard's employ but the fact his ideas were miles ahead and he couldn't convince Leaf brass to finance his video equipment for road games. He was a class act until the end, RIP. He once told his goalie to leave his stick along the goal line in Peterborough when he was pulled for a 6th skater. He correctly argued with the ref there was nothing in the rule book about it but it was fixed soon after.

I loved how the Montreal fans gave such an ovation to the injured Leaf's goalie. And it's important to acknowledge that history is the best judge. History will remember Roger Neilson as a great man, a modest, humble and kind man as well as an innovator in the game of hockey. Ballard on the other hand, will be remembered mostly as some sort of clown, ruled by his emotions and not very well liked or respected. Ballard was in fact a very generous person, but his behavior always overshadowed the good he did.

Ballard did some shifty stuff before but he really went off the rails when his wife died aged 62 in 1969 that happens to a lot of people.

Great upload xt Hab, as usual. It was a great era of course for the Habs, but Toronto iced some really competitive teams back in the late 70s. Couple things that stood out to me in this video: that first “stretcher” must have been borrowed from the “M.A.S.H.” set, Larry lending a hand getting stretcher off the ice ( no surprise), but Mario lending a hand too, and lastly, the usher at the Maple Leaf Gardens. You can tell she wasn’t just someone directing people to their seats, she knew hockey and knew the gravity of the situation with Roger returning to the bench as you see her admiration. Man, those Saturday nights seeing those two ( Ballard and Clancy) in their little bunker just screams 70s ! Merci xt 👍

Thanks for uploading this! Lots of childhood memories here for me. I recall the Leafs won that game against Philly 4-3 (or was it 3-2?) with Sittler scoring the winning goal late by banking it in off a Flyer skate from a centering pass from the corner boards. At that time, as a kid, I can never recall any game feeling more important for the Leafs to win - I thought that if they lost to Philly that night, Ballard would fire Neilson again (of course, he did anyway after the season ended with the loss to the Habs in the playoffs). I would love to see footage of the Leafs victory that night if anyone has it.

10:37 - Remember the couple of old men in the loge from The Muppet Show? Very similar.

Neilson said Bobby Clarke kept backing out of the faceoff circle so the ovation would go on.

Nice upload. It's quite the contract that the Habs successfully transitioned to the early expansion era while the Leafs were stuck with a clown owner in Ballard. Now all the Canadian teams are more or less stuck in neutral. Sad.

This was the best hockey I ever saw. Maybe excepting games against the Bruins. QC sure as Hell made it exciting too!! My favorite team, ALL TIME.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same match where Neilson had to lead the game with a paper bag on his head as "the mystery coach".

I was a huge Leafs fan in grade 3 when this happened. Remember it like yesterday. From that Friday morning until Saturday night everyone was buzzing of who the new coach would be or maybe Roger would be back.

Give Ballard credit, putting Salming and Hammarstrom in the lineup opened the door for Swedish players, although he questioned Inge’s grit and physicality.

This was my favourite time watching hockey ever. Miss those days so much. I dont watch hockey really anymore, just not that interested in the current teams and players

Same here, loved the Leafs then even when they turned to crap later. Haven't watched much hockey since then (80s) So many big things happened: Sittler's ten point night, Turnbull's five goal night, the Leafs scoring the fastest three goals in the playoffs in 1979 (23s).

Hi, I have a project about old time hockey games. Is it possible to know how you find theses footages? Do you get licences form broadcasters to do it?

I don't understand how Ballard got away with all his crap? Why didn't the players just jump him and rough him up?
